hockeycc
didn't know why NYR traded this guy last season but very good D imo. Bruce Boudreau
Can he play the right side as a left shot tho. His combination of skating and pp ab ability are intriguing. Former first round pick same draft class as Sbisa. Italian. Seems worth a shot. I don't see any better options in free agency if want to take a shot on a young puck moving offensive d-man. Wait another former Carolina offensive d-man is available in Jamie McBain plus he is a right hand shot to boot and can qb the pp. They did sign Bobby Sanguine though already who is a very similar player. Bertorama
He is a wild card player.... That being said I like it and would only sing him if the price is right. Who would he be with? Edler?
Van_City123
Hamhuis Tanev Edler Sbisa Bieksa Stanton Corrado Doesn't fit in anywhere. Unless Tanev end's up getting traded, if they can't come to terms on a contract. Hamhuis-Del Zotto Edler-Sbisa Bieksa-Stanton Corrado Not a bad defensive core there IMO. Plum
Hamhuis - Tanev Edler - Del Zotto Stanton - Bieksa Sbisa 2 40 point guys on one D pairing. I'd love that or McBain.
DownUndaCanuck
We're going through a bit of an "experiment" phase the next few years, as we obviously aren't going to contend so I say why not offer him a 2 or 3 year deal. The next 2 seasons really are growing years for our young kids so if Del Zotto proves he's the real deal in that time and gets back to 30-40 point seasons, we could keep him on. At the end of a 3 year contract, he'd be 27 and still in his prime. At that point, Hamhuis and Bieksa will be ready to move on, so we can decide whether we want to throw more money at Del Zotto for our contending years, or move in a different direction. Tanev and Corrado, as well as hopefully Sbisa, will round out the rest of our top-4. Next few seasons, we have Sbisa, Del Zotto, Corrado, Weber and Stanton on a bit of a rotating door combining to play the games. Sbisa could play about 60, Del Zotto about 60, Corrado with 30 and Stanton with 10. In 3 years time, at the end of Del Zotto's contract when Hamhuis/Bieksa are too old Edler - Tanev Del Zotto - Corrado Sbisa - Stanton
kloubek
While I was ok with Stanton's play last year, he didn't exactly stand out either. I wouldn't be totally upset seeing him kept as depth, and Del Zotto or McBain filling his slot. And who knows, Sbisa may end up being awful so having an extra d-man isn't bad insurance. R3aL
He needs to be brought back to square one and re work some areas of his game, maybe hed be willing to sign a 2 way deal and work his game out in AHL, and then be ready to play for the big boys obviously he wouldnt but thats what I think he needs
bp79
i like it if its reasonable i dont know y people bring up the chance of not signing tanev hes an rfa worst case scenario arbritation or we match an offer sheet, which is doubtful i think theres a better chance we end up packaging tanev for a top 6 guy and moving hanson and higgens. i think the sabres are asking to much for myers so ya id roll the dice on del zotto hes young and for whatever reason we seem to bring the best out of are d. except edler last year but i blame that on torts the guy was a majour dick. Tanev i really think is gonne be gone but i think corrado is a better version plus we have some guys in the system to look foward to. hutton subban chara 2.
86Viking
MDZ on 3rd pairing as an offensive specialist would be great. and if he could grow into a top 4 all the better. I would have him over stanton due to his upside and PP presence. 2-3yrs at 2m would be fine with me. But ya either the knewly aquired sbisa, or edler, hammer, stanton would have to be moved. anyone know if he can play right side?

Posting his stats from 2011-2012 don't indicate what he has been doing since then. May as well offer Cheechoo a contract as well, because he scored 50 goals once. There's a reason why the Rangers let him go and why the Predators of all teams didn't re-sign him.
elvis15
I'll just leave this here: News1130 Sports @News1130Sports Eklund reporting the #Canucks are a finalist to land UFA defenseman Miachel Del Zotto. But wait, there's more: News1130 Sports @News1130Sports Just talked with Del Zotto's agent Mark Guy and he says there is no chance of Del Zotto ending up with #Canucks. Guy says he never held serious talks with the #Canucks.
Langdon Algur
I don't think he's a good fit in our teamHe's a pure offensive Dmen, the only player we have similar is Weber but Del Zotto has a better upside.

elvis15
Didn't know you knew this but this thread was posted a month ago. But hey, what the heck. July 1st even, I know. Considering people are still talking about Del Zotto like we'd go after him after this and all the other things that have been said to say they won't, it was worth saying in a few different places. IBatch
Again, I have replied to this on different threads a few times and I see that too many people on this forum are greatly overrating our current D. For those who haven't do your research on Del Zotto. He is an excellent talent who fell out of favour with a coach who does that all the time with his players, including stars and superstars. A lot of his ex-players hate him (Torts) and are laughing at what happened in VAN and predicted the outcome before his arrival. Del Zotto got 37 points as a rookie, fought injuries his second year and bounced back with 41 his third season - than the lockout - decent ppg but already was in the doghouse with Torts. Never fit with AV system - traded to Nash and doesn't fit there with there top talented D (that is a good D by the way). He is better than all of the defenseman on the Canucks with the exceptiotion of the top 3, and possibly has more upside than all of them including Edler. The Canucks have a players coach now, who could and would give him a chance to re-gain his confidence. Also our PP has being terrible the last couple years and is the primary reason for the slide in the standings. When it was one of the best in the league we were the best in the league. We are a good five on five team and need the pp back to push us up the standings and compete in this division. Our team's strengths are skill - that should be complimented with more skill. We don't need defenseman that are marginal and can take a shift - we need ones who will get the puck to the forwards and make good plays. Weber isn;t the answer (I would love to be wrong but the odds are greatly against this). He is far from his prime (Del Zotto), his stock is low so he is cheap, and he should be sought after to help improve our depth and PP.
