Vancouver, B.C. - Vancouver Canucks General Manager Jim Benning announced today that the Canucks have signed forward Zack MacEwen to a three-year entry-level contract.

"Zack is a physical two-way forward who plays in the tough areas and competes with a high intensity every night," said General Manager Jim Benning. "He has good hands especially for a player of his size; combined with an ability to deliver hard checks and stick up for his teammates, Zack is a difficult player to match up against. We're excited to have him join our organization."

MacEwen, 20, ranks second on the Gatineau Olympiques in goals (27), assists (35), points (62) and penalty minutes (81). His 12 power-play goals and 222 shots on the season currently lead the team. In his first full season in the QMJHL in 2015.16, the 6-4, 212-pound forward collected 10 goals and 30 assists (10-30-40) in 66 games for the Moncton Wildcats. He also added eight points (4-4-8) in 17 playoff games for the Wildcats.

Prior to playing in the QMJHL, the Charlottetown, PEI, native spent two seasons with the Amherst Ramblers of the MHL, collecting 66 points (38-28-66) and 138 penalty minutes in 96 regular season games.

Canucks recently picked up two physical players. No more softness from this team anymore. We got Tram, Guddy, Virtanen, Dorsett, Labate, Pedan, Cramarossa and now the newest addition to the team Zack MacEwen. Almost everyone but Dorsett are young and have lots of pontential to be great players for this team!

And aside from Virtanen, Dorsett, and Cramarossa, these boys are huge!

Who knows, maybe this guy ends up being a pretty serviceable NHL player.

Milan Lucic scored 68 points in 70 games in his final year of junior at age 19 in the dub.

MacEwen has 62 points in 58 games as a 20 year old in the QMJHL. Unlike, Lucic he is a right handed shot.

MacEwen as a similar player to Lucic probably isn't an appropriate expectation, but one can dream. Hopefully Zack can be a serviceable player for us.

Go Canucks Go!

Go Canucks Go!

QMJHL generally has more scoring than the WHL so Lucic's numbers are more impressive in that comparison.
