O.J. Simpson is optimistic about his chances of getting paroled Thursday in Nevada, according to one of Simpson’s closest friends.

“He says, ‘Tell them we’ll be playing golf again soon,’ " Tom Scotto said Sunday in a phone interview with USA TODAY Sports.

If paroled, Simpson, 70, is eligible for release Oct. 1.

Simpson sounded “excited’’ when he and Scotto spoke by phone last week, according to Scotto, who added that he will be in the hearing room with the former football star Thursday at Lovelock Correctional Center, where Simpson has been imprisoned for almost nine years.

In 2008, Simpson was sentenced to a minimum of nine years and a maximum of 33 years in prison for his role in the armed robbery of two sports memorabilia agents at a Las Vegas hotel, and Scotto indicated Simpson is ready to reclaim his life outside of prison.

“He just says, ‘We’ll be together again, my life will go back to normal, ’ " Scotto said. “He’s very positive. He’s always been positive."

Simpson will appear by video conference Thursday before four members from the Nevada Board of Parole Commissioners who will be at the board offices in Carson City, Nev.

Simpson’s plan if he is freed, according to Scotto, is to move back to Florida and live with Scotto, eventually buy his own house and, like old times, hit the golf course. Another option is for Simpson to live with his sister, Shirley Baker, in Sacramento, according to Scotto. Either way, the Nevada commissioners must approve an inmate’s parole plan before being released.

“We played every day in Miami, even if it was 100 degrees," Scotto said. “We’d travel to West Palm Beach to play. We’d play once a week with Lawrence Taylor and Michael Jordan.

“I’ll tell you something really funny. You know you wear a (golf) glove on the course. And all of his friends, anytime he drops the glove, they say, ‘Oops, you did it again.’ "

That’s a reference to the bloody glove recovered in 1994 at the scene of the crime where Simpson’s former wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend Ron Goldman were murdered.

While Simpson denied killing Nicole Brown Simpson and Goldman and was found not guilty in the 1995 criminal trial, he has acknowledged his role in the 2008 robbery that led to $2 million to $3 million in legal fees, according to Scotto.

OJ had almost everyone fooled about who was really behind his mask.  His public image influenced the jury for sure.

everyone knew/knows he did it, but they let him off to make a statement about racism in the US and the prosecution team made stupid mistakes under enormous pressure. If that white bronco had got stuck in LA traffic and never ignited the media storm he'd probably still be in jail for double murder.

It's little things Ike the Bronco getting back from the murder scene so quickly that gave people opportunity to question OJ's guilt.  People grew up with this persona of OJ as a great guy, who was always smiling and happy.  Yes, it was a mask, but most didn't know that.  So, during the trail many were looking for the littlest of reasons to show his innocence - like that time line, or the (stupid) glove not fitting - rather than seeing the overwhelming evidence of guilt.

Johnny Cochrane was brilliant he played the race card to a tee.  And the nobody Kardashian did the dirty work tampering with evidence.  Little did he know that would launch the Kardashian Empire years later god help us.  If you can check out a great short docu on Netflix or maybe Youtube " Kardashian the Man that Saved OJ" or something to that effect. It'll blow you away.  Funny how these 2 are now dead, and I don't believe in karma.
