How in the heck can SJ afford to pay EK that much of their cap? No chance that rumour has any truth.

If true, probably trying to drive up the price to try and screw over whichever team they end up losing him to.

They have 24M in cap space with 15 players signed. Doug Wilson talked about how they plan to go the bridge deal way for Timo Meier - likely for LaBanc too. They will probably move Brenden Dillon (3.3M) and maybe even goalie Dell (1.9M). Thornton if he comes back will go on a cheap 1 year deal. Pavelski will have to take less than market. Barracuda shares the building with them - they don't need to hold a 23 player roster and can go with 21 at home.

With EK re-signing, that pretty much keeps Dillon in around the 5 spot on that blueline. Expires next July - if they can't poach him reasonably, perhaps he'd be interested in 'coming home' / signing next summer.

Dillon was Karlsson's partner when Karlsson played his best hockey for the Sharks. It seems more likely for Braun to be the odd man out as he is also a RD with both Karlsson and Burns already playing big minutes on that right side.

With Gudbranson traded last year, the Canucks still need a physical element on the defense, and at 6'4" 225 lbs, Dillon brings it in spades. He's also a reliable stay at home defenseman. Fingers crossed.
