Rush17
Unfortunate news. We wish Nikita well. We hope to have him back in the fold for the 2021-22 season. Best of luck Nikita. Go have a good season in the K big guy. Sucks we couldn't offer him a contract in Van given our current cap crunch. I imagine trading his rights might be of high consideration for the Canucks now. I could be wrong but I believe he becomes a UFA after this season? Hopefully I am wrong. I am glad we have Rathbone in the mix tho! canuck2xtreme
On 7/14/2020 at 7:31 AM, Rush17 said: Jakes RFA comps have him around 3m like Stecher. On 7/14/2020 at 3:48 PM, Tony Romo said: The bonus will be around 900K I think Virtanen will be closer to 3 mil than 1 mil Gaudette and Tanev at those prices are stretches, but for the sake of argument I will give you it. So that would leave us with no cap, and no significant additions. The issue is not that we need to trade Boeser, its the fact that we have two elite players in their final years of their rookie contracts and we can not take advantage of it because of poor cap management and poor foresight by management. My apologies, I was using capfriendly for numbers and took from this season's numbers, didn't realize Jake and Gaudette were up. So yes, those two guys will eat up some of that room. Like I said, it'll be tight. Tanev at $4.75 million I think is fair IF you take the flattened salary cap into account. If the cap had gone up, I could see them justifying offering him maybe another million, but as much as we love him, he's not a $6 million defenceman. If he wants more, then he'll have to look elsewhere, which would suck, but we just don't have the cap room. Nonetheless, you are correct that we have a lot of dead cap space on the roster, which with a flattened cap is going to be even more significant. But okay, let's say we trade Brock to get $5.875 million in cap space. Does that solve the problem? I'm thinking it makes it worse. Because not only did you not save enough to deal with those expiring contracts in Petey and Hughes, but now you have this gaping hole on the top line wing spot that needs filling. Who on the roster is ready to step up and take that spot? In my opinion the biggest problem is that our de facto 4th line is the second highest paid forward line on the team and we get very little benefit out of them. I like Sutter but he's overpaid and now he's been outplayed for his job by Gaudette, ergo, he should go. Eriksson... I don't even need to say anything else on him. Beagle? I'd be willing to keep him if we can afford it, but if not, he's next on the list in my opinion. Ferland is only an issue cap wise if he's healthy enough to play, and if he is, I still think a player like him would be a huge boost to the Canucks, so you see what your options are if/when the time comes that he's able to return. With a flattened cap, and so much cap space being burned up with buyouts/cap recapture/4th line contracts, we need to wake up to the new normal, and that is that 'significant additions' will need to come from within the organization, not in free agency. In this sense the Canucks are lucky, because our prospect pipeline is stocked enough to supply that in the coming 2-4 years. Juolevi, Podkolzin, Demko (hopefully), Lind, Rafferty, Rathbone etc. We have guys in the organization already who project to be solid NHLers who can step in. The natural evolution of Petey, Quinn and Brock will help the Canucks take more steps forward in the meantime. If you want a significant addition, how about an entire season of Tyler Toffoli, and an even more improved Jake Virtanen? Those 5 guys have not hit their peaks yet, and let's be honest, we want to see growth, but realistically we know we aren't Cup favourites this year or next. But in 3-5 years? Maybe we're in the mix. Popular Post canuck2xtreme
CDCGML Return to Play Format At long last gentlemen, I have some information regarding our Return to Play! Playoff format: Our playoff format will exactly mirror the NHL, with 24 teams participating. Teams are required to submit their playoff rosters by July 30th at 11:59pm Pacific Time. However, ALL 31 teams are asked to submit a playoff roster, as in the event of a playoff team NOT submitting their roster in time for the playoffs, they will be considered eliminated and the next team in line will be moved up to a playoff position to compete. This will NOT effect entry draft placement. Playoff rosters: Rosters for the playoffs will remain as they always have been. Teams can select 23 active players (13-14 forwards, 7-8 defencemen and 2 goaltenders) for their roster on a nightly basis. As always, when teams post their playoff roster they can include as many of players as they deem could potentially be active. This season, we will allow teams to rotate any extra 'black ace' players into the lineup to sub in for another player due to injury or illness, but not as a constant roster shuffle due to who's playing on which day.Compliance Buyouts: We will not be allowing any compliance buyouts at this time. Buyouts will continue under our current rules. (We can always revisit the possibility of one reduced cost buyout later on if the flattened salary cap is proving to be too much of an issue for too many teams and stagnating movement etc.) Salary Cap: Same as the NHL, which appears to be $81.5 million for the foreseeable future. Entry Draft: The entry draft will take place on Sunday October 4th. This follows the latest possible date for the Stanley Cup Final, and precedes the NHL's entry draft, tentatively scheduled for October 6th, and so keeps with our usual goals for the entry draft. Free Agents: Free agent signing period will begin on October 9th, same as the NHL. Trades: Trades will be allowed immediately, as long as both teams involved in the trade have been eliminated from the playoffs. As all teams are to submit playoff rosters, any pending trades will wait to be posted until after the July 30th roster submission deadline. Any questions please let me know! 3 1

canuck2xtreme
Please keep in mind that you can name MORE than 23 players to your playoff roster, but can only have 23 of those players ACTIVE. If you have minors players who would be your black ace group, make sure to name them, otherwise they're not eligible for the entire post-season. Like an invite to the post-covid training camp sort of thing. It's a list of players for your hub city bubble, so to speak. 1
