  1. I'm putting this prediction out here on the record in case I get lucky: - Miller will be traded in July but after the free agency period opens in 2 weeks - The trade will be with Carolina with no salary retention - The trade will not garner a roster ready RH D - At least one draft pick is for 2023 - Miller will sign a contract extension shortly after the trade
  2. Boeser already made improvements to his foot speed. He even lost some weight a few years ago trying to get quicker. He is what he is now. I don't expect his foot work to increase much.
  3. Don’t like a guy with this type of character. Me me me type. This is going to make the Miller trade even more complicated potentially lowering Miller’s value on the market.
  4. Not as deft as Hoglander, possibly better defensively, a heavier shot, speed is comparable so not particularly fast.
  5. You have to let Miller go Alf..... you just have to let him go
  6. It's pretty clear with Vasili Vodkolzin being a lesser former teammate in KHL (deployment by coach) and yet settling well in the NHL and I'm sure having nice things to share about his experience in Vancouver and Bruce Boudreau having previously coached Ovechkin, the Russian connection is relatedly strong.
  7. There are a lot of things that I do not understand about Boston. Why spend so much on their D core? Boston seems to neglect the 1C position the way Edmonton neglects their goalie situation. They could have used the assets in the Lindholm trade for a 1C.
  8. To Vancouver: Charlie McAvoy $9.5M per year To Boston: J.T. Miller with 50% retention$2.625M per year with contract extension at $8.5M x 8 years Tyler Myers with 50% retention $3M per year (assuming his limited no trade clause is not an impediment) Analysis: Boston is not rebuilding. Boston needs cap space to resign Bergeron and acquire a legitimate #1 C. Having Bergeron and Miller will maintain Boston's contention window. Boston needs healthy players to fill in and stay in the playoff race early in the season. Boston is currently allocating over $31M of its cap space on D. This is more than Vancouver, Tampa, Rangers and Colorado. Boston should reallocate cap space to forwards McAvoy is a #1 RD and only 24, however he has already proven to be injury prone like the much older Chris Tanev. Any team retaining or acquiring McAvoy will risk not having their $9.5M #1 D available through all 4 rounds of the playoffs. Myers was a decent shutdown D for a team that missed the playoffs but had great average goals against per regular season game If this deal is consummated, Vancouver would be spending a lot of its cap space on D. Also Vancouver will be dealing with possibly another Chris Tanev situation with regard to injuries. Vancouver would be a very top heavy team like the Vegas Golden Knights.
  9. Game 1 will be the beginning of a memorable season to win the draft lottery.
  10. The Oilers are in a cap crunch this summer. They are desperate. They have no choice.
  11. My suspicion is that whenever the coaching staff is complaining about analytics, they are saying that the data they have been fed were useless. The data looks neat on the screen but there was nothing helpful to improve the PK, solve the struggling PP or help players to play to their potential. I don't think any coach is going to complain about the analytics guys if all of the data contributed to winning. To put it differently, with analytics, why did the Panthers score only 3 goals in 4 games? With analytics why did one of the best defensive team as well as goalie in the regular season $&!# their pants against the Oilers? In fact, my speculation is that the reason Travis Green changed his system and confused the heck out of Canucks players is because the analytics guys told him how bad the Canucks were.
  12. This offseason is going to be saturated with good forwards. Many teams including Edmonton, Calgary and Toronto would have cap problems. It really depends on how teams perceive J.T. Miller among a ton of good forwards. Does he bring a unique set of versatility and competitiveness that other players lack? How much is that worth? I think it is very likely that J.T. Miller may not be traded this offseason due to low ball offers.
  13. People don't understand what average is. J.B. was an average G.M. which means that he was competent but not great.
  14. This summer is going to have lots of good forwards available due to cap issues and free agency. I don't expect Vancouver to get much for JT Miller. This summer is going to be a buyers' market.
  15. Trent Cull's approach means that a significant number of young players would not like Vancouver as a destination. They do not want to be "stuck" in the AHL for years before stepping into the NHL. Would Adam Gaudette agree to remain in the AHL until he was absolutely ready? Would Andrei Kuzmenko come to Vancouver if he has to be stuck in the AHL to learn PK? There is no perfect approach to player development.
  16. J.B. was a rookie G.M. he was not trained properly to be a G.M. He had to learn the job on the spot. Trevor Linden had the luxury of calling around the league to ask them how to do his job. J.B. did not. The ownership had more experience owning this team than J.B. managing a team. This would have made J.B. very insecure in terms of his stature in the organization and in terms of dealing with the ownership's expectations. To be a corporate executive is very different than being simply a corporate employee.
  17. J.B. was overworked. He gained a lot of weight and had his hair challenges. The decision making was streamlined but you wonder whether differing views had sufficient time and space to be afforded due consideration. There is no perfect style of management. You had Steve Jobs the dictator and General Electric ran by faceless and nameless committees. .
  18. To be fair, J.B. thought Tanev was gonna be on LTIR permanently.
  19. Very unlikely if Miller and Boeser are resigned/extended.
  20. If the Canucks did not play with structure then how the heck did they win all those games in the second half of the season? Are the Canucks so talented that they won those games without structure? What does this tell you about those structured teams that lost to the Canucks?
  21. This management team is much better than J.B. at public relations and farting rainbows. However, they have done very little at this point to judge. The one thing that is for sure is that this management team has a lot more personnel for delegation, a lot more meetings, a lot more emails and memos going back and forth. J.B. steadily gained weight throughout his tenure because he and his team tried to do everything with minimum staff. I don't know if this management team will win the Cup but it is going to be a puppy mill for NHL executives for years to come
  22. Oilers had disappointing playoff experiences during the past 2 years. They are gonna be ready. The Kings are going to lose. .
  23. J.T. Miller is my second favourite Canucks player since I started following the team. He needs to be traded because the goal is not to make the playoffs but to build a contender. This teams needs a lot to get there and they cannot afford to pay him what he deserves.
