  1. Agree 100% it would be awesome if he turns into an impact player... and honestly, I think he will. I really do think he's going to be our future third line centre for the years to come. He's got a nice edge to his game, can score, and create plays, an ideal 3rd line centre plus he has 2C potential, so in the event Petersson ends up being a winger for us, and Gaudette continues to exceed expectations (I love that Gaudette's still bitter about being taken in the 5th round and has a chip on his shoulder about it, helping in his rise as an amazing prospect for us), there's always a chance Gaudette slides into the 2C role with Horvat in the 1C role in the future too. Lots of options for him. Very happy. Excited to see Gaudette next month in a Canucks uniform.
  2. Seems like a solid 7th round pick. I expect Brassard to be on the Comets next year.
  3. Would you trade Jake Virtanen for Max Domi straight up?

This question was a good way to spot out who are/are not homers.

Food for thought. Both are high draft picks that are underperforming with their current teams. Thought it would be fun to see what the reactions would be.

And, in my scenario, it's a straight up trade with both teams having agreed. Not like that's what's going to happen in RL but it is a fun hypothetical.

Honestly, I'm in the camp that does this trade. Both have similar tangibles (big guys who hit and score) but I think Domi's never gonna live up to his rookie season and I think the pressure of being the "local kid picked with a high draft pick" has gotten to Virtanen. I think a change of environments would be best for both players. That and Domi & Horvat used to play on the London Knights together so there's chemistry there, if Domi were to somehow become a Canuck. I don't think the Canucks would play Domi as a centre if he were to be traded here.

      So that's that from me.

  4. Dream Canucks 4th line in the next year or two?

    Carcone - MacEwen - Archibald

Michael Carcone is a puck hound, MacEwen uses his size to dominate the middle of the ice, Archibald is used for his checking prowess.

Feel like that would be one fun 4th line.

Based on how he is being used in Utica, I don't think the Canucks see MacEwen is going to be a centre.  He has spent most of his time on the right wing, and even when Utica has had injuries down the middle, he was still kept at wing as Utica signed centres.  They even played Carter Bancks who is a natural winger at centre, even when they had a healthy MacEwen.

IMO, he is likely to make his living being gritty and hard to play against on the wing, and impose his size on others.  Kinda of the same transition that has happened with Brendan Gaunce.

  5. I suspect he'll get a contract unless he has an epic collapse next year which, judging from the stats, seems far fetched. Seems like a better defensive prospect then Mackenze Stewart and Anton Cederholm already despite those two playing a different style than Brassard. I wonder if Brassard's continued success will ultimately hurt Cole Candella's chances at getting a deal with the Canucks....
  6. I think this guy is going to solidify our third line for years to come: Petterson Horvat Gaudette That's going to be dominate centre depth in a few years time. My expectation is that Gaudette will sign in March and get a "9 game trial" like Boeser did last year and then snag a roster spot at training camp alongside Petterson.
  7. Gaudette's a pesky Kesler type. He's got the drive to want to be the #1 C but will likely be a very good #3 C/occasional #2. Kid's got a great motor on him and plays with an edge that the Canucks havent really had since the Kesler days. In an interview from this summer (I read it awhile ago so no link), he said he plays this way because he felt like he shouldnt have been picked so late in the draft and he basically upped his game to prove all 29 other teams that passed him wrong for not taking him the FIRST round. Gotta love that tenacity and audacity. I expect Gaudette will play a handful of games in March and then take over the Burmistrov slot on the roster next season. That said, since this is Pettersson, I can really see him taking a roster spot next year. He's playing at an elite level at the SHL as a 19 year old. He gives me Filip Forsberg vibes. A real gem. Type of player I wished Benning chose in 2014 (*cough Nylander *cough* Ehlers *cough*). Big future ahead. Exciting times in 2018, hopefully.
  8. Geographically, Vegas is closer to California then Arizona, so, as weird as it would be for 2 expansion teams to be in the Pacific, it makes the most sense for a Seattle franchise and VGK to be in the same division. If the NHL thought Vegas should have been in the Central, they would have placed them there this year.
  9. Seattle is home to Amazon, Microsoft, Starbucks, and Valve. A new office for Facebook was just built there too. They'll have the corporate dollars to help buy out boxes + Seattle is a sports town. Seahawks, Mariners, and Sounders always get good turnouts -- good or bad. They unjustly lost their NBA team too. Honestly, this would be great news for the Canucks. A regional rival that's within driving distance. We haven't even had the chance to see something like this since the Grizzlies/SuperSonics days and that didnt get much of a chance to get going in terms of a true rivalry. The NHL is likely going to use the expansion as a way to stop a potential NHL lockout. A new team will mean 50 more NHL contracts can be signed + 22 guaranteed NHL jobs + money that goes to the NHLPA + money going into the Owners pockets. A win, win, win, win. Makes sense. Question, though, is if Seattle enters the Pacific will that mean Arizona moves divisions? The Pacific Division cant possibly have 9 teams in it + Arizona is closer to Dallas then Vancouver. I like this.
  10. Definitely agree with you there. He'll be given ever opportunity to make the team next season, if he signs at the end of this season. Judging by his twitter page, he seems to rejoice in the fact that he's a Canucks prospect and probably doesnt want to bolt. He seems like a guy who's hellbent on proving people wrong and seems to have the cockiness (in a good way) of a player who still feels angst over the fact that he got drafted in the 5th round instead of the 1st. My bet is that he'll sign with the Canucks at the end of his NCAA season, slot into 7 or 8 games like Boeser, and play, play, play. If the Canucks somehow get into the playoffs, he may be benched, but I doubt it. My gut says he'll take Burmistrov's spot as the 3rd or 4th line centre next year and maybe succeed Sutter in a few years. Ideally, the depth chart for centre in a few years should be: Petersson Horvat Gaudette Though next year it could be (if things pan out): Horvat Sutter Gaudette Gagner
  11. Terrible news. He's under a two year deal, so he'll be back next season. Hopefully the extended recovery/rest will have him be ready to compete for a Canucks spot next season. I honestly think he could snag a 7th or 8th d man spot still, despite this injury.
  12. We have his rights until 2022. Lots can happen. My prediction is that he'll come back to the Canucks in 2021. If not, the Canucks will trade his rights for a prospect to the team that he WANTS to sign with. He seems happy in the KHL. Shame he couldnt be happy here. Oh well, he just wasnt mature enough for the NHL right now.
  13. That's cool. I suspect the plan for Goldobin is this -- have him play big minutes in the AHL until Vanek is dealt. Once Vanek is dealt, he'll slot into Vanek's role to end the season. Next season, he'll be waiver eligible (so we can't sneak him in Utica) and that's when he'll get NHL minutes. There'll be more roster spots open next year (Sedins spots + Vanek's + Burmistrov) so he'll likely secure one of those spots. He's been asked to work on his game away from the puck and I hope he shows some results because offensively, he's very tantalizing. Also, it would be great to see Nikita in a Canucks uniform in 2 years as opposed to 3 (so that would mean he's back before the lockout) but hard to know, Nikita seems happy in Russia but I wonder if the new coach + better team + better money ends up swaying Nikita to come back sooner than planned.
  14. Elias and Gaudette are going to really make things interesting next year. They'll both likely play their way onto the Canucks lineup, hard to see them not at this point. Canucks are going to be flooded with hot young talent soon.
  15. Elias is playing against men. Cody Glass is still playing against Boys.
  16. Only way Chatfield cracks the Top 6 (and he'd have to be in the Top 6 to not get cut) is if there's an injury in the Top 6 in the next two games. My gut says Chatfield will be the first Utica call up this season and he could stick if Gudbranson is traded this season (as I suspect he will, since I won't be shocked if Gudbranson receives a big offer to return to Florida by Tallon next Summer since Tallon didn't want Gudbranson traded -- Rowe did).
  17. Pedan is young, cheap, fast, and big. There's a chance he is taken given his contract + age but I'm not overly concerned. Pedan, much like Subban, has been leap frogged by a number of defensive prospects since his arrival. Colorado need young defensemen... As does Washington. So there's a possibility. The LV guys may be too expensive for some teams, honestly. That said, since this is Evan McEney's post, I am glad that a CBA loophole worked out in our favor and Evan's not waiver eligible this year. One more year as a top pairing guy in Utica (likely alongside Jalen Chatfield) is going to do wonders for Evan's growth.
  18. Looks like the Canucks are going to try and sneak Evan McEney through waivers today. Smart move. It's early and teams are still figuring out their lineups, probably the best chance to get him to Utica. That said, I'll wait and see if he gets claimed or not. Though, with this timing, there's a chance he doesn't get claimed.
  19. Feel like Evan's been putting together a quietly nice preseason. Anyways, The Canuck Way put out an article about the Top 5 players too risky to expose on Waivers and they listed Evan McEneny as their #1 player who's too risky to place on waivers. I think they make a good argument. Link here: https://thecanuckway.com/2017/09/20/vancouver-canucks-preseason-top-5-players-risky-put-waivers/6/ I wouldn't mind seeing Evan as the #7 d-man over Wiebroch, to be honest.
  20. I don't think Jalen Chatfield will necessarily crack the roster right out of training camp but I do think he's putting himself in a position where, much like Troy Stecher, he could be the first call up during the course of the season. He's the rookie (along with Michael Carcone) who I think have legit shots of surprising at training camp.
  21. I wouldn't be shocked if a decision to ink Zhukenov to an entry deal is made after July 1st... Canucks will probably see how their July 1 shakes out (especially with who they land as depth signings). He still hasn't signed in Europe yet(as far as I know, correct me if I'm wrong) which suggests he's hoping to stick around North America... Or else he would have likely signed a KHL deal by now. That's just my hunch.
  22. I wouldn't be shocked if he changes his plans now that he got drafted. He was probably headed to Finland with the idea he wasn't gonna be selected, but now that he has, there is a chance he ends up in Utica. Canucks should have a few AHL spots open (as well as contract slots), so giving him a chance now isn't the worst idea.
  23. He is committed to Harvard for the 2018 season. Harvard guys do tend to test free agency (just look at Vesey, Kerfoot) after they hit the 4 year mark... However, something tells me this kid is different (the reason he isn't going to Harvard this year is so he can stay near his autistic little brother). He is friends with Demko, who will likely be in the NHL at the time Rathbone is ready to make the leap from college to the NHL, so that bodes well. A good project. I don't expect him to be a factor until 2020 which is fine by me. Defensemen take longer to develop, so give him all the development time he needs. Better than plucking a CHL d man, at this point, anyways.
  24. I was hoping the Canucks would draft Sebastian Aho with this pick so that Sebastian Aho could play Sebastian Aho in the NHL. This guy is a fine consolidation pick, however.
  25. We've had good luck with Italian last name goalies on this team. Let the tradition continue!
