Burrows? Do We Really Need Him?

As much as I love this guy, and his work ethic is unbelievable, I am now for the first time ever considering it may be a good time to look at possibly moving Burrows. The reason I'm saying this now, is because he is now 32, will be turning 33 next year, but his value is the highest it will ever be right now.

The success he has had with the Sedins has made him who he is now, don't forget this guy was a non drafted player, who was never known for his offensive talent, he was a hard working grinder type of player. The Sedins were able to make Burrows into a differen't type of player, if Burrows never played with the Sedins trust me he would of never registered as many points as he has.

I just don't see this guy holding much value for say a top 6 point producer in the near future, as hard as it is to imagine with no Burrows on this team, it would be like Linden all over again. We remember how that worked out, Bertuzzi for Linden, now who knows what we could get for Burrows, but this season is the best time to find that out.

What?! Burrows is exactly the kind of player Torts wants to have on his team. Did you see Burr play in the 2012 World Championships alongside Andrew Ladd? They did it all. Burr was a key part of the secondary-scoring,...he provided energy... he was relied upon to be a shut-down player,...he was a great penalty-killer....& he provided opportunistic take-aways that often flipped the momentum at times. Ladd & Burr were a trust-worthy combo & when Burr went out of Canada's line-up to comply with concussion protocals.... it showed... & the team missed his savy presence out there.

Burrows is a very good player in his own right...& not just because he plays upon a line with the Sedins. I wanted the more cerebral John Stevens to be coaching this team...instead of Torts. AV had a decent system for the team...he just didn't always play the right players upon the ice, WHEN & WHERE he should have... in the end. Nor was he able to effectively motivate his team - anymore. Hated that AV sat his Captain-down after 22 sec. of play in the last game of the season...& didnt have him dressed & ready to re-activate, when things went array & the captain was truly needed. That was a butt-ugly coaching decision! As was leaving Lu in to crush his stats...when there was a very eager back-up at the ready with his own brand of inspiration & energy to bring into his 1st NHL on-ice minutes. Call the TO... reactivate the captain,...& put in the back-up. All 3 of thoses more obvious coaching moves...were completely lost on AV.

Altho' Torts may be the better preacher of desire & sacrifice...he's apparently not taking into account that our team doesn't have ALL of the organizational depth & inter-changeable spare-parts that other teams like BOS do - when the cannons of both oppositional & friendly-fire start taking-out his starters. Teaching everyone to block-shots safely & more responsibly is a good thing....sure.... but it might be even better to train-up some designated PK & shot-blocking specialists, like Ryan Johnson used to be. Let those specialists do some of the hard minutes & take-on the greatest risks...especially during the regular season...or THIS situation (Burr/ Shroeder out) won't be the worst to come. Is it too early yet..to say I told ya so? Maybe. But - it's still bothersome having to bite my tongue.

Burrows? Do we really need him? Well...we are about to find out...aren't we?

Just hope he comes back soon & receives better care & scrutiny before playing his next game ...than either Ryan Kesler, David Booth...or the entire D-corps received last year. With all of the increased "sacrificing" of body parts & soul that the guys are now expected to do...you'd think their medical staff would be 2nd to none?

Get on that - MG! Torts hasn't even got a clue yet - in regards to how hard the travel will be & how it may affect performance levels or game-day intensity sometimes. AV & the 'Nucks' old player development staff were scrutinized...so - I really hope this team's medical staff & trainers also get their come-upances, if warranted.

why on earth trade the only good priced acquisition this team has -- everything burrows offers is a bonus -- if you want production then you have to consider moving higher paid players that are getting old.

You do realize this thread is 5 years old eh?

They too will cheer for Alex.

Anyways, I'm curious where Burr will land when he returns to the lineup.

I get the feeling that Torts would like to keep him away from the Sedins on a regular basis. More than anything that was AV's signature move during his time here, but also I think it might have been a mistake to always go back to that arrangement. After 2011 teams were figuring them out - I'd like to see it employed sporadically, like after a penalty kill or a mid-game injury. Santorelli, Hansen, possibly even Jensen with the Sedins; plus they will be periodically split up.

But anyways, in a fully healthy lineup, where does Burrows fit? I'd like to see a 2nd of Burr-Kes-Kass, with Kass entering the zone/digging the puck out of the corner, Kes shooting, Burr scraping the rebounds out of the gutter.

You know, I wouldn't mind that either. You could even throw him out there with Higgins and Kesler. Burrows is one of the better passers on this team, it could work. But then it's a matter of how the rest of the lineup would come together. Having to fit Burrows into the lineup is an interesting problem to have, but a good one.
