What Should The Nucks Do About Ballard

TACIC

He's good enough to be a first line centre though, that's the thing.

Edler for Staal is actually a pretty fair trade for both teams. Both of them are on the last year of their contracts and both have reasonable cap hits.

Sedin Sedin Burrows

Booth Staal Kesler

Hamhuis Bieksa

Suter Salo

Ballard Tanev

Definitely solves our second line problem.

How many players do we have to trade before we don't have our designated minimum of roster players sitting in the pressbox in place of "gritty" scrubs because of our coach's love/hate relationship with players that happen to fit/unfit perfectly with his definition of what a player is supposed to be?

I SUPPOSE we could trade him for some fourth liners. It would at least make the coach happy.

Not sure how that became the team's number one priority.....

Ballard had a good 5 games. Whopee. He still wasn't out against the Kings top line consistently (Hamhuis and Bieksa did that).

IMO, our 4 best defencemen are : Hamhuis, Bieksa, Edler and Salo. They are all better than Ballard.

Hamhuis and Bieksa are not going anywhere and i think we should keep Edler- he may or may not end up as an elite & consistent defenceman, but IMO, he is going to be consistently in the top 15 of the league overall and if we can sign him long term to 4.5-4.75 million range, it'd be worth it.

Which means, Ballard is out of luck. We cannot, i repeat, cannot, afford a 3rd pairing defenceman for 4 million +.

What we need, is a big body stay at home defenceman for Edler, preferrably a right shot and Salo to perhaps come back for a year or two.

IMO, Salo-Tanev/Rome/Alberts/Gragnani is quite a good 3rd pairing, especially with Salo's servicability anchoring our 2nd unit PP.

This means, Ballard needs to get traded. As some have noted above, Ballard's high cap hit and lack of bona-fide minutes the last couple of seasons means he is a low value trade.

Therefore, he must be packaged- IMO, package Ballard, Booth and Raymond's rights for high draft picks and a decent 2nd line winger/Edler's partner type player. Ballard and Booth are both suited better for east coast hockey and will fetch good value if packaged together, as they instantly help limping teams (such as the Islanders).

First, even if Lidstrom does sign, Detroit has enough cap space & money to sign Suter.

2knd, you can say get over it but Bertuzzi still has a lawsuit pending where he expects the Canucks to pay his tab. Guaranteed he's not being signed while he is suing us!

IF Lidstrom doesn't sign for another season with Det. And that's a big 'If' in my opinion. Then they are going to be looking for D-man that can quarterback a power-play and has good speed and poise with the puck.

Ballard could look like a cheap, and potentially very effective, option. Granted they do have Kyle Quincey and Brendan Smith on the NHL roster, both of whom have decent offensive potential, however neither look to be ready to replace the 34 points and +21 that Lidstrom produced last year while playing almost 24 minutes per game. They also have Logan Pyett in Grand Rapids but again he is years from that kind of NHL production - if he ever gets there. However all three of these internal options look to be shaky at best and Ken Holland is not one to risk rushing a player into the NHL.

Ballard has proven that with top minutes and the right partner he can produce upwards of 35 points. And he would come cheap, Gillis would be out of his mind to ask for anything more than a 3rd liner, 5th-6th dman, or 2nd pick (not together completely separate) and with Tatar ripping up the AHL already they will most likely be looking to make room for him in the top 6.

And who you ask would they ever give us that would help us win now while also hopefully freeing up salary cap room? How about Mr. Todd Bertuzzi?

2.075 million cap hit through 2014

For

4.2 million cap hit through 2015 and we throw in a 5th rounder (probably a 80 point player in 4 yrs the way DET drafts)

Has about the same risk for both sides and no I am not saying Ballard is going to DET to be the next Lidstrom but he would bring a bit more offense from the back end than their current roster minus Liddy.

Bertuzzi would be a great fit back in Van IMO - a natural RW which would help us with that problem of always having someone on the right who is a natural LW, Booth and Higgins looked decent but it was obvious how much better they played when on the left side. Also Bertuzzi would bring a ton more offense and grit than someone like Raymond and would be a great leader in the room and on the ice. Not to mention the fact that Bertuzzi is a heart and soul player who is always the first to step up and defend his teammates.

BIG BERT for BALLARD + 5th rd.

MAKE IT HAPPEN MG!

cheers

How do you think that them TRADING Allen and letting the others walk when their time was up has anything to do with the Moore incident?

Have you seen this:

That incident was a horrible mistake and the sole bad mark on his career, it's in the past and people need to get over it. Moore took out our captain and Bertuzzi's great friend with a cheap shot that could have ended Naslund's career, I do not condone what bert did but he had years of great production and success in van but all of that apparently means nothing to you because he did one irrational emotional retaliatory thing.

And what could be better for Kassian than playing with his Idol? it would do nothing but show him how to be a real NHL power forward and stick up for teammates legally; Bertuzzi VS Weber comes to mind.
