Luongo's Totals

I will say that LU has his good and bad games but letting in as many goals in a game is not the style that people are looking for..... If he does return it really time for him to step up and be the #1 goalie ..with the SMALLER pads coming into play he really has to close the fivehole at least!!!!! more then 40% of GA have gone IN THE HOLE ..HE has too really get his attitude under control to prove that he is OUR ##1 GOALIE

I have to say, even if he didn't win a cup with us, Ill still love and respect what he has done for this club. Not really getting why some or you tards think that one 8 goal game in the playoffs was all Lus fault and a good reason to write him off forever. That is all you have to hate on. Everything else he has done for this team is wonderful. Without Lu this team would have had way less success since he has been here. Then you'd really be crying your eyes out. Do you know what its like to root for a team that really sucks bad, like Florida? Quite your whiney baby attitude and realize how good you have it.

Not really aside from the blown cup run. With Luongo we seem to get knocked off in the first or second round which was pretty much the same for the Naslund era. Even with Luongo we missed the playoffs one year.

No he didn't get the Cup but he had the better run at one in '94. Everyone remembers "the save" which is something Luongo doesn't have.

Yes Lu got two shutouts in the Finals tying a record for two 1-0 games but Thomas also got two shutouts as well and was the better goalie.

Instead Lu will be remembered for the other records he set namely tying the record for most goals against in a SCF game (which he demanded to stay in) and the fastest four goals given up by a goaltender. True Schneider let the fourth one in so Lu is only 3/4 responsible but who are we kidding. He would've let that fourth one in himself just as fast.

It's his inconsistency I hate, not the man. Boston only got 2 goals on him in the first three games in Vancouver but 15 in his three starts in Boston despite the team getting 38 to 41 shots in those games on Thomas. When you have a goalie hemorrhaging goals on the road like Luongo did it wouldn't matter much whether the team was capable of scoring or not. When we were eliminated by Chicago in Game 6 the first of three years we faced them our team was scoring but it didn't matter since Luongo just let in more. He didn't do us any favors the second Game 6 against Chicago either letting in 6 though I guess he technically showed improvement.

The simple truth is that Luongo HAS to be consistent for this team to have a chance which is one of the reasons why we've struggled. Letting in 6,7 to 8 goals in certain games or 3 to 4 quick goals in a period while stealing games previously, sometimes with shutouts, isn't consistent goaltending.

First of all, it wasn't just one 8 goal game. From '09 through '11 there were numerous games in which Luongo was shelled for 4, 5, 6, 7 goals, or he was pulled after allowing a quick few to start a game. Granted those were all mostly against Chicago and Boston, but those were some pretty important series' nonetheless.

Luongo is not a great as his cheerleaders say he is.

He is also not as inconsistent as his skeptics believe either.

However, this is all in the past. The odds of him coming back to Vancouver and playing 'lights out' are not very good.

To think otherwise borders on complete delusion.

As /topic/348142-luongo-interview-monday-july-8-993-fm-730-am/page__st__330#entry11524121">I've told you before, Luo has allowed 4+ goals in 16 games out of his 62 playoff starts (64 games). Of course, one of those 4-against games was a 2007 5-4 win over Dallas in which Luo had 137:53 of TOI, faced 76 shots, made 72 saves, and ended up with a .947 SV%.

By my count, Luo's been pulled 6 times during the playoffs, but only once before 4 goals against. So, if you add in that one Boston game, he's been pulled and/or allowed 4+ goals against in 17 games out of his 62 playoff starts, or 27%. If you want to look as SV%, Luo's had a SV% below .900 in 20 of his 62 playoff starts, or 32%.

Of course, as much as you like to focus on Luo alone, the goalie is only part of the team. So, let's have a look at what they've brought to the ice....

During Luo's time here (since 06/07) the team has had 68 playoff games. Of those, they've been kept scoreless in 7 games, scored 1 goal in 11 games, and scored 2 goals in 19 games. That means the team contributed a single goal or less in 26% of their game. And they contributed 2 or fewer goals in 54% of their games. I don't know of many goalies who could have done much better with that kind of scoring support.

For comparison...

Since 08/09 Boston has had 85 playoff games. They've been kept scoreless in 7 games, scored 1 goal in 16 games, and scored 2 goals in 15. That means Boston's team contributed a single goal or less in 27% of their games. And they've contributed 2 or fewer goals in 45% of their games.

Since 08/09 Chicago has had 75 playoff games. They've been kept scoreless in 4, scored 1 goal in 12 games and scored 2 goals in 16. That means Chicago's team contributed a single goal or less in 21% of their games. And they contributed 2 or fewer goals in 43% of their games.

Since 09/10 LA had had 50 playoff games. They've been kept scoreless only once, scored 1 goal in 11 games and scored 2 goals in 13 games. That means LA's team contributed a single goal or less in 24% of their games. And they contributed 2 or fewer goals in 50% of their games.

I get that you absolutely loathe Luo, but it really is time to recognize that he's not the only problem, or even the biggest problem facing this team finding playoff success.
