On Horvat and Gaunce:

  • doesnt think either horvat or gaunce are ready to make the canucks

  • if he had to choose one to make the team it would be gaunce because hes a year older

  • he recognizes the team wants to get younger but his main reason is that this may not be that right envionment to bring these young guys into. says factors like the luongo mess play a part in his opinion

On luongo:

  • on the segment it was mentioned that a source stated that even though gillis met with luongo, lu is still unhappy with the situation

  • the biggest positive the canucks have going for them is that this is an olympic year and luongo wants to be team canada's goalie

  • the best chance lu has of being canada's goalie is by playing for the canucks

Horvat definitely isn't ready, Gaunce maybe is.

How many players honestly make a full-time jump at 18 or 19?

From 2011, it's RNH, Landeskog, Couturier, Larsson, Zibanejad, Huberdeau, Brodin and Hamilton

From 2012, it's Yakupov and Galchenyuk

Not saying that Gaunce won't make it, but that's a pretty good company of players who played full-time in the NHL in their teens. Gaunce hasn't really done anything special to prove that he's NHL ready.

I see it playing out as Gaunce getting a 5-9 game tryout and Schroeder taking over when he gets healthy.

Botchford is still a goof though.

Pretty much stating what we all know already.

- Luongo wanted out. He made that clear..... a long time ago. Now he's stuck here and they're stuck with an unhappy goalie and a really long contract. Canucks did this to themselves, and in some respects Luongo/agent did this to themselves. Both sides are to blame. Unfortunatly the 1 person that could/should have fixed this entire mess (Aquilini) turned out to be cheaper than NYI and Tampas ownership group.

- It's be great for Gaunce or Horvat to make the team..... but the probability of them being ready is extremely low. Like, you'd probably win the lotto first.

Was he suggesting that the Canucks 'environment' is toxic right now? That bringing the young guys in would expose them to a less than desirable situation? I'd hope things haven't got that bad, the season hasn't even started yet.

I think Gaunce is almost there. However why rush him? give him a year in the ahl to see how he fares against men.

no point on overwhelming him when we already have santorelli, richardson and schroeder who can easily take that 3rd line spot.

guess bitchford may be right on horvat. wouldn't mind if he was in the minors for the year to get some quality playing time, but since vigs is no longer in the picture, our prospects won't be buried as much by torts, hopefully. i'm sick to death about hearing lu being unhappy. that story is just so played out. enough already

neither youngsters are ready

even Gaunce said it himself in the interview he doesn't feel like he's ready

and its true, until the luongo situation actually settles down, its not a great environment for the two to come into

lain might be the only fit, and be our Brian Boyle for the year

Schroeder (if re-signs) takes 3rd

despite what botch would have you believe..the loudest person in the room isnt always right.

where is Lain in all of this?

any reason he cant be pushing for a spot? Seems like he was a highly touted collegeFA that we were able to land

The "Luongo situation" is only a byline in a newspaper article, it is not a reason to bring in or not bring in talent to the organization and if it was, what Botch is saying is the Nucks might as well fold the tent now, since they can't bring in any new talent for the next 8 years or so. Ridiculous.

That being said, I don't think either one will be a full time Canuck next year, but of course we may see the 9 game tryout from both..and you never know who will surprise us, and/or be required to flesh out the team if they are at the cap.
