Virtanen is 6'1''....that isn't small.

I mean if we can draft Perlini I'd go with that but I don't think we'll get to draft early enough to snag him.

Currently we're drafting 8th, we're the worst team in the league since New Year and everyone has games in hand on us.. With the way things are looking, we're at least getting perlini if not better

according to some fans who watch Virtanen many times, they think he's a 1st round pick, but top teens material. His hockey instincts is not as polished, a little inconsistent, he does have the speed, sniping skills, and physical game, a lot of his goals he scored in the WHL will be hard to come by the NHL level.

my bad I thought I added his comment too. I just want someone with some skill. In Gillis' mad dash to get big he forgot about skill and hockey sense.

Do you follow our prospects or just read anti gillis threads on cdc?

Warhippy, is that Button's list?

Looks like it, first thing I noticed is that I thought he missed Virtanen. He is at #41 which seems way too low compared to any other scouting reports.

Man if we can hit that top 5, I will be so happy!

Just keep losing till we can draft Bennet

Seriously how beneficial would he be for us next year? VERY

He's 18 and is putting up almost 2 points a game on average and is good defensively.

That's a future franchise center right there

I thought I read somewhere that the best we can do is 6th overall.

I guess we could win the lottery...

That's wrong, the oilers are second last with 52 points and 17 games to go. Winning them all gives them 86 points. We're at 68 with 15 games left.

It's actually still possible for us to come in dead last but the win/losing streaks would have to be pretty incredible

I do but not to the same level as some of you hardcores. I have my own opinions of Gillis I think he's done some good things and some bad things too.

Oh haha.. Yeah just because we've taken big players doesn't mean their all hockey senseless idiots. We've got several prospects praised for their smarts but any gillis hater won't admit that. I apologize for the smarta$$ comment.

Alright, thanks for the clarification.

EDIT: Looking at the overall standings, what I read was probably that "realistically" the highest we could get is 6th overall. At this rate, Nashville and Carolina have decent shots at passing us in the league standings.

How does the new draft system work out of the lock out? Doesn't ever team that didn't make the playoffs have a shot at #1?

Yes 1 team wins the lottery. Each pick from 1-14 has a percentage chance of becoming 1st overall. The first pick going into the lottery has a 25% chance of landing 1st overall, the 14th pick has a 0.5% chance.

Essentially any team inside the top 4 has a decent chance at landing 1st overall, and only one team will move up every other team will slide one spot or remain the same if the worst team going into the lottery wins.

So besides the lottery-winning team, we all pick where we place in the standings?

Yeah, if a team after us in the draft wins, then they leapfrog to first pushing everyone in front of them including us one spot back.. If a team that wins is in front of us then it has no effect as the spot shuffle won't reach us.

I read through the history of winners and there's some interesting ones Patrick Kane was Chicago having 5th spot but winning the lotto. Also Adam Larsson in 2011 was NJ winning the lotto from 8th place!! but the rules at the time you could only move up 4 spots. Cross your fingers boys!

If you look at the NBA which has been using the system the NHL is switching to for a very long time, many of the lottery winners were in the 3-6 spot. 2011 was won by the 8th place team, 2008 was won by the 9th place team.

  • 250 combinations, 25.0% chance of receiving the #1 pick
  • 199 combinations, 19.9% chance
  • 156 combinations, 15.6% chance
  • 119 combinations, 11.9% chance
