Watching Sportsnet's coverage yesterday, they mentioned a couple of times how the Jays had the best record  in the AL over the past 50 games, "so why doesn't it feel like it?"

The consensus answer was the amount of close games, but I have a different take. To me, it doesn't feel like it because of how many winnable games they've lost.

Case in point: they just went 3-3 on this west coast trip, but they could easily have swept all six games.....

I honestly think it’s just not playing up to our potential. So fact we’re still 11 games above .500 right in the thick of the playoff race is really telling as to how good our pitching and defense has been.

Apparently there won't be any Shohei Ohtani sweepstakes at the trade deadline, as the Angels just added a couple of pitchers from the Chisox and will go all-in for a playoff spot.

The Los Angeles Angels acquired right-hander Lucas Giolito and right-handed reliever Reynaldo Lopez from the Chicago White Sox for two top prospects late Wednesday, bolstering their roster on the same day they decided they would not trade star Shohei Ohtani before he hits free agency this winter.

The move for Giolito, arguably the best pitcher on the trade market, and Lopez, whose fastball regularly hits 100 mph, was the first significant trade in Major League Baseball before Tuesday's deadline. Multiple contenders had considered dealing for Giolito and Lopez, but the Angels swooped in with catcher Edgar Quero and left-hander Ky Bush, both at Double-A, to reinforce themselves for a playoff run.

The Angels have won six of seven games to move to 52-49 but remain four games out of the final American League wild-card spot, with two other teams, New York and Boston, also ahead of them.

In Giolito and Lopez, the Angels will add to a rotation and bullpen that both rank 20th in baseball in earned run average. Giolito (6-6), 29, who will be a free agent after the season, has a 3.79 ERA and has struck out 131 in 121 innings. The 29-year-old Lopez, who in 2016 came to the White Sox along with Giolito in a trade for Adam Eaton, has shown flashes of excellence this season and sports a 4.29 ERA with 52 strikeouts in 42 innings.

Giolito should be one of the starters that the Jays face in their upcoming series against the Halos....

Phase 2 renovations start at the end of the season.

Blue Jays to reduce foul territory on field as part of 100 level renovations

A new look at Rogers Centre will give fans in the 100 level a new view.

The Toronto Blue Jays unveiled detailed plans for Phase 2 of its Rogers Centre renovations on Thursday, detailing how the current 100-level seating bowl and structure will be fully demolished at the end of the 2023 season.

The new seats will be installed from foul pole to foul pole, oriented toward the infield for improved viewing specifically for baseball.

"Our goal from the onset of renovations was to transform Rogers Centre from a stadium to a ballpark," said team president Mark Shapiro. “By completely rebuilding the 100 level seating bowl, we are introducing an authentic ballpark viewing experience, with sightlines designed specifically for fans to enjoy Blue Jays baseball."

The new 100-level seats will have additional legroom, slats on the back that provide more airflow, wider seats between the dugouts, cupholders throughout, adaptable raisable armrest options, and handrails in every aisle.

Designed specifically for baseball viewing, the renovations will have all the seats oriented toward the infield, improved sightlines with less obstruction, and new seats closer to the field as a result of the remodelled bowl structure.

Major renovations on the 34-year-old stadium in downtown Toronto began after the 2022 season. Originally designed as a multi-purpose venue that has previously also been home to the NBA's Toronto Raptors and CFL's Toronto Argonauts, the renovations are designed to make the venue baseball-specific.

As part of Phase 1 of the renovations, all of the seats in the 500 level were replaced, with new patios and gathering areas added to the outfield.

A part of me wishes to see Ohtani throw in Toronto, and the other part of me is happy he’s not throwing. Guy just threw a 1 hitter today.

Then he goes and hits Two HR’s in the second game of the doubleheader…just business as usual for Shohei

While running the bases, he was seen grabbing a leg, and was removed from the game.

Hopefully it isn't serious.

After leaving the second half of Thursday's doubleheader early with cramping, Shohei Ohtani is back in the Los Angeles Angels' lineup Friday against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Ohtani will be hitting second as Los Angeles' designated hitter against Kevin Gausman and the Blue Jays, according to The Orange County Register's Jeff Fletcher.

Media over reach.

Whit Merrifield is micced up, and they are asking him questions while he is playing outfield.

Imma going to be ticked if this costs the Jays anything during this game.

WTF- bush league move.

Damn, it would be a stupid way to lose a game and a play off spot, due to a distracted player.

Millions at stake.

ah well, not my money.
