2,000,000 acres burned up in Alaska, so far in June. Almost double the previous record(1.2 m acres in 2004). Currently there are over 300 fires burning.

Has MSM said a damnthing? Prob not...(mushroom treatment)

Check out RobertScribbler's site, it's the top story. Amazing pics & comments.

One thing we could do is make a transition to nuclear power. It does have problems, but it would reduce a lot of carbon dioxide emissions. Solar or wind would be better long term for the environment, but nuclear would be more reliable for the time being.

Thanks for the link and ...........Ok wow ? Northern Alberta and Sask are ablaze as well lots of smoke in Calgary today. The trees are our second major source of breathable air, with the oceans getting worse every year and the trees burning up we will be paying for oxygen in no time :(

Precious time is slippin' away

Yer know yer only King for a day

It doesn't matter to which God you pray

Precious time is slippin' away

It doesn't matter which route you take

Sooner or later the heart's gonna break

No rhyme or reason, no master plan

No Nirvana, no promised land

Chorus

Well this world's cruel with it's twists & turns

But the fire's still in me, & the passion it burns

I love her madly, 'til the day I die

'til Hell freezes over, & the rivers run dry

Precious time(repeat)...

-Van the Man!

Had to bump, the overwhelmed planet is taking ever more abuse. Appears Mother Nature is takin' the gloves off:

Cat 5 Hurricane Patricia is barreling towards the west coast of Mexico(La Manzanilla). Reported winds in 220+ mph-range. Apparently the biggest hurricane(western hemisphere) ever. For those so inclined, prayers for the people of Mexico are certainly in order.

Then across the Pacific, there are those devastating forest fires in Indonesia. Recommend RobertScribbler's blog, it's the top story.

Sure would be nice if the MSM tried to keep the public informed on important matters...

Before rising seas, increasing hurricane strength is a major economic concern.  We're going to need to develop the tech to dissipate hurricanes in pretty short order.

Cloud seeding with chemicals is possible today.

Cloud seeding with lasers is coming. http://www.cnn.com/2015/04/24/tech/laser-cloud-seeding-mci/

And this is just the start.

For now you can see the direct and forceful justification for climate change action on your nightly news.

In answer to your original question Nuxfan, I think many people have a sense of futility when it comes to Climate Change. We might recycle and conserve, take the bus instead of the car, (or walk if possible) yet still wonder if it has much of an effect in the grand scheme of things.

While we a average citizens do what we can, we see powerful multinational corporations spend massive amounts of money to maintain the status quo, or at the very least, to elect governments that view action on Climate Change as they do: an impediment to "progress", which is a euphemism they like to use that translates into an impediment to them making money.

At least here in Canada, we can say that we did something positive. (and hopefully something that will have more far-reaching effects than taking our cans and bottles to the recycling depot)

We ousted the party that was going out of it's way to muzzle the scientific community and replaced it with the party led by the guy with the nice hair. Hopefully, Justin is "ready" to do something significant to try and slow down the pace of Climate Change and mitigate it's effects.

@Riffraff: Another option would be to replace your current fridge and give it to someone who's fridge really does need to be replaced. That's recycling as well.

Are you? You think it's obvious that it is in our best interests to artificially manipulate the weather??

Would you rather have hurricanes of ever-increasing strengths rip up our coastlines, where most of our people are living?

btw, we are already artificially manipulating the weather.  It's been a long-term effort that has resulted in a worsening of it.  Now we need to go all the way and control it for the better.

So, your argument that we should artificially manipulate the weather, a process you say we've already tried and screwed up, is that we should manipulate it even more?

I feel like you're trolling me, you can't be this obtuse.

You must be assuming that it can't be improved for the better.  That assumption is false.

In the very least we should be able to cancel hurricanes before they start.  I don't think you'll find anyone being pro-hurricane.
