Awesome, another size matters person.

He is actually about 5 foot 10 now, closer to 200 pounds, his center of gravity and agility are incredible and to call him awful when he was one of the best rookie D men in the entire AHL last year is questionable.

Added pairing him with a defensively responsible pro level partner on the blue line allows him to be that offensive force we need.  It's a pairing for a reason

Remember, CDC's talent/potential evaluation parameters consist of size, grit, and physicality. Doesn't matter if they don't have skill, as long as they have a mean streak and "can hit like a truck" it's all good.

The Boston series totally scarred some people on here.

If you the look the picture and imagine that pole representing Subban. The shorter that pole the more of your own force it will take to move that object. He would be completely spent trying to move players that are average in size.

So don't try to get him to do that. Duh.

That's what pairings are for. Subban would very much be the puck carrier, not the retriever. He'll have to use his speed and smarts to break up plays with his stick, not his body. Otherwise he'll be coached to let his (larger) partner separate the man along the boards/in the corners and get Subban the puck to move it forward.

In his own end he'll be responsible for breaking up rushes/passes with his sticks, not board battles. Then make sure he's both open for a pass while also covering the opposition to break up a pass if his partner fails to come off the boards/corner with the puck. Then skate like the wind the other direction.

Learning to do that against men and making it work 90+% of the time will take time and is why he'll still be in the minors for another 1-2 years.

This whole pairing up an Elf with a Monster is a pipe dream. This isn't Yoda and chewy.

So your saying his d partner is the guy who battles for the puck and Subban safely waits for the outlet pass to Cruze into the neutral zone!!!! Hahahaha

i know!!!!! why not just ice a guy that can take care of his own side and end!!!

This is the most insulting post I have ever seen. Total puke.

No, he's still going to have to work in his own end, just use more brains than brawn, similar to Tanev (albeit different skill sets).

That 'other guy' can't do what Subban can with the puck in the offensive end. That's why.

Can't wait to see him compete in training camp. He has to know he's in deep this year what with all the defensive acquisitions. I think his speed is his greatest asset..would love to see him as the 7th Dman on the 4th line instead of the Pedan experiment.

He should spend his entire elc in the minors learning the defensive side of the game. He was a rookie last year so he has 2 more years to prove if he can become a solid pro and add the bulk to his frame that he is going to need in the NHL. You're right that training camp is going to be very interesting this year.

Out of like 200 defensemen in the NHL there are maybe 2-5 that are 5-10 and under. They are also very advanced in every other areas of their game to compensate.

Thick, thin, it doesn't change the fact that they have ZERO leverage over anyone along the boards or most importantly in front of the net. Because of this, a guy who is 5-9 will need to use far more energy than a guy who is 6ft to move the same player off the puck. He may be strong as an ox but he is severely mechanically disadvantaged.

If you the look the picture and imagine that pole representing Subban. The shorter that pole the more of your own force it will take to move that object. He would be completely spent trying to move players that are average in size.

The lower centre of gravity argument only applies to him moving in a forward motion. As soon as he stops to battle, he is screwed because he will never have the higher ground. That is why defensemen are always the tallest guys on the team. "Forward" lower centre of gravity Defensemen mechanical advantage.

In rare cases tiny Dmen can make an impact in the NHL, but that is extremely rare.

He has no place on a Benning team.

It always seems like a lot of bums and wanna be scouts here on CDC and you have not even seen a player play live before.

I have watched J. Subban  play a few times this year plus almost every game for a 2 year stretch with Belleville so I know the player very well what he can do on the ice and every game this year I saw he was best player on the ice. He will be a future NHLer guaranteed .

Thanks for the post.  It's always better (IMHAO) to get reviews from guys who have been to see a guy live on many occasions.  I think Subban is very small.  But, from what say, he's still really good.  Maybe JB sees Jordan playing with one of the Monsters he keeps adding to our current blue line?

Welcome to the new nhl buds.

Hahaha ya cause there are so many 5 ft 9 Dmen dominating the new NHL.

This "new" NHL is nothing more than moose poop anyway. The league hasn't drastically changed since the Big Bruising Kings won the cup. Everyone talks about how great the Blackhawks are but the big bad Hitchcock coached Blues beat them down.

It's more about that teams are more willing to give opportunity to smaller guys when their skill is apparent. Doesn't mean it's not still largely a big man's league (someone needs to make room for those small guys).

Subban has the skill to make the NHL despite his size. Now it's just a matter of how well he can learn to play against men and play within that context.

To be fair, I think Chicago would've won with better defensive depth.

The East seems to be all about speed, and even the Rangers are falling behind because of it.

The teams that move on in the playoffs have the best defense and goaltending. I don't care how fast or slow you are.

Benning won't, he doesn't want that little twerp back there. Neither should you.

This kid is the most under rated prospect we have. Subban paired with Tryamkin in 2-3 years will be a very dangerous top pairing. Call me crazy, i understand lol, but im not. Tryamkin will be a defensive beast and his reach will allow him to break up 2 on 1s with ease like hes already done for us. Tryamkin would also add a big heavy shot . Subban will be allowed a lot more freedom and it would be like having 4 FWDs. Why spend all these assets on a guy like Barrie when we have a gem like Subban who IMO will be the better offensive player of the 2. I think this is how our D will look in 3-4 years:

Tryamkin Subban

Hutton Gudbranson

XXXXX Tanev

PP1

Baertschi Horvat Boeser

Tryamkin Subban

Subban definitely has a lot of talent and natural ability. He might be the most talented prospect we have. I think his skills and game will translate at least somewhat effectively to the NHL. I think he will probably turn out like Justin Schultz in Pittsburgh, which isn't a bad thing. A powerplay specialist playing bottom pairing minutes and in offensive situations. That will provide some variety on our right side with Tanev and Gudbranson being defensive defensman on the right side.

I think his compete level and his willingness to get better will be the reason he makes the NHL. He obviously isn't very big, but he constantly outworks and outhustles guys that are much bigger than him. He will not be denied, no matter who he's up against. Combine that with a strong centre of gravity and some strength and he will fine. Most of the time he will be using his quickness and agility to avoid physical play anyway.

The other thing he has is a good shot. That will be useful to have with Tanev and Gudbranson being the other defensman on the right side.

I'm going to say he is the exact opposite, he is the most overrated prospect in the history of our franchise. The only thing Subban is "under" is a table, standing upright with 1" of clearance above his head.
