“He’s strong. He’s not tall, but he’s physically strong, but when you’re not tall you need to learn angles and stick positioning so you can defend as a smaller guy and they’ve been teaching him this year. Nolan Baumgartner is an excellent defensive coach and he’s done a real good job. I think he’s come a long ways and we’re happy with where he’s at after his first year pro, he just needs to keep getting stronger and he’ll get NHL games next year” (highlighted by Stierlitz).

Should be very encouraging for those who've been worry-worting over him (although their negativity persists, as evidenced by the usual suspect above).  The comments are certainly more positive than the ones made about Jensen and Shinkaruk previously.  Jordan appears to enjoy hitting the gym and seems to have a great attitude, so he's well on his way.

Shinkaruk looked terrible last night.  Skated a thousand miles and did absolutely nothing

Took 2 hits which put him down hard. One of the issues brought out after the trade was how well Shink could deal with the physical side and that he did take a lot of hits.

Thanks, I wasn't able to catch the game.  Was he getting involved or not willing to stick his nose in?  His projection seems to be a PP specialist, which doesn't bode well for an NHL future.

He didn't shy away, at all.   However, he got hit hard a cpl of times and he doesn't absorb those well.

If you didn't know anything about hockey, he probably looked like he was buzzing around all over the place, but he wasn't doing anything at all.  He didn't look terrible or anytging, Just not something that will be missed, I don't think.  To me, Granlund looks like a more complete player in every zone.

He was on pp1 and I didn't see him touch the puck, but to be fair, JG has it most of the time.

I thought Shinkaruk played quite well myself. He had a couple shifts where he looked very dangerous, almost scored on a couple wrap arounds on the same shift. Looks good with the puck and made some great back checks, you could tell he was developed under Green cause he did the work on the back check like Baertchi does. On the PP he just parked it in front of the net which I assume the coach told him to do so he didn't get to touch the puck much. Granlund is definitely more of a complete player but Shink was no slouch defensively and I saw great offensive instincts, good puck handling and  got the puck to the net. Might be cause I was watching but he looked better than Bennett out there.

Wait isn't this the Subban thread? Just realized this

Subban has had a pretty successful first year in the AHL. It looks like he has a great attitude and is willing to work which is the most important thing, especially when you aren't the biggest guy. I do think he will make it to the NHL, we just need to have some patience.

As has pretty clearly been the plan from the start.

Year one, get him headed in the right direction and addressing deficiencies.

Year two, continue growth and give a taste to see what he he needs to work on at the next level.

Year three, should be able to push for a spot. Might still split some time between the two leagues.

Year four, should be largely full time (if he hadn't quite nailed it down year three).

Patience people.

I think the key in the quote from Sterlitz's post was the bit about leverage. He should have an understanding of that from weight training since that comes into play, but he may not necessarily equate the two and correlate it with how he can improve in hockey. I think he could learn some teachable moments from doing some cross training this summer in sports like wrestling, judo and other MMA-style sports. It may help him be more aware of how he can learn to use his body to defend against bigger players.

Subban has had a pretty good year of development in Utica.  He's continued to show skills as an offensively minded defenseman while building the defensive responsibility that is required to break in to the NHL.  I think he'll start seeing some NHL games next year if he keeps it up and could be a regular by the end of the season.

Judo in particular would actually probably be very helpful...

How bout drywall stilts?

I think Jordan Subban should use the summer to focus on being able to skate fluently on drywall stilts. If he doubles his height he should be around 6ft tall. 6ft should be the height cutoff for defensemen.

Yes, yes... and Gudreau won't make it in the NHL either.

Thanks for your valued input as always

I for one am not worried at all, I'm glad he racked up some points so we can hopefully fleece some team into giving us a 4th for him. With the 4th we will draft a defensemen who doesn't need to sit on a parents lap during an airplane ride.

Subban is a defensemen or defensekid. I want nothing to do with a dwarf Dman in a 7 game series against the LA Kings.

I'm wondering why you need to provide the exact same opinion 3 different times. We get it. You don't like Subban because he is shorter than you want a defenseman to be.

Move on if you don't have anything else to add.

I'm just having fun mega man, relax. If this half a man makes the NHL and becomes a goal scoring machine I will be just as happy as the rest of the fans.

Its funny how it's perfectly ok to make fun of say.. linden vey. CDC has a very selective defence mechanism

This has nothing to do with you expressing your negative opinion of him... People just want you to shut up. We get it already... On the bright side, if he is any degree of successful in the NHL, I'm going to laugh at you publicly on these boards every day, several times, until you or I die.
