CRAZY_4_NAZZY
Elliot wasn't going to get a look with Johnson and Barrie ahead of him. Having Gormley rounds out that D core. As for Arizona, adds another good puck moving guy that will have expectations to replace Yandle's puckmoving skills

Canuck Surfer
Curious. My own perception was that Gormley was higher up the food chain than Elliott? Someone can straiten me out there I guess... Could be as simple as the righty / lefty swap to balance depth charts. And a fresh start for each. ManUtd
Endlessly bizarre but I'm happy. Elliott has been done with the Avs for a while. Sacco did a good job of ruining him. He's a great AHLer who has still has some chance of being a super sheltered 6th D PP specialist. To think he was once more highly touted than Barrie. At least Gormley has a shot of actually having a place in the organization. Will be good for Elliott to get a fresh start. Wish him nothing but the best. Odd.
There hoes our chances of ever getting Gormley. I would've loved to acquire him. Hope for the best of those two. Change of scenery was needed indeed.
oldnews
Very good news for Elliott. AHL's leading D goal scorer gets out from under Patrick Roy and to a club that might actually give him a couple shifts. With the type of two way veterans, high end young forwards, not exactly a stellar D prospect pool, and perhaps the best coach in the game, Arizona is an ideal opportunity for him imo. proheffanol
That's a pretty surprising deal! Gormley looks like he's going to be a well rounded TWD, he's one of the prospects I'm more interested in seeing grow. Meanwhile I agree that Elliott would grow into Yandle's role pretty well, and it'll be interesting to see him and OEL paired together down the road. Actually a career saver for Elliott at this point. Roy didn't like his game at all, by the looks of it, and he was pushed out of the picture by Barrie. The AVs seem more inclined to give a tough, stay at home prospect like Siemens will bring. After picking up Zadorov it is pretty clear that the management doesn't value the skill set that Elliott brings. Their quota of young D is filled. I find it an odd trade because Gormley is the much more rounded player and more likely to be a long time NHLer at this point, IMHO. I am assuming his contract negotiations were the trigger here. ManUtd
Apparently, Gormley is waiver eligible this year. Even though Elliott just would have been on waivers anyways, it's hard to see Sakic & Co making this trade just to waive their acquisition in a couple weeks. Hopefully, this spells the end of the Holden/Guenin saga.

Beary Sweet
Eliot had star potential but never flourished. Only in the ahl. Gormley had the potential but hasn't shown it.
Lionized27
I'm curious to know if Benning was in on Gormley? Not sure what would have been given up...
