2016-17 Utica Comets Thread

Recommended Posts

4-2 Crunch after two periods, shots are 22-18 for Syracuse... a better effort from the Comets that period, but it matters little at this points. Goldobin is a fantastic offensive threat at the AHL level and when you look at yesterday's game combined with tonight's, you can really see the potential there. That second goal was a thing of beauty. Rendulic looked like he'd made it 4-3 but it gets called off. Utica's playing far more disciplined today which they could've used last week with all of those games with six and seven powerplays against. Its hard to fish for positives given the situation, though. Hopefully we see some stat padding in the third?

St. John's probably deserved it more anyway given that they're relocating to Laval next season, so good on them.

Goldobin's second:

Hmm too bad the big club kept calling up Utica's best players...playoff wise anyways.

Keeping Chaput up the entire season was ridiculous. Any PTO could have brought what he did, he would have made a big difference for the Comets though.

Seems like Linden and Benning are still making rookie mistakes in certain areas. Ignoring the long term development of their prospects, in order for a marginal gain for the big club.

Well the roster was a tire fire with GudBranson and Rodin gone all year Plus other injuries and those freakin mumps Lol

Crunch up 4-2 vs the Comets. shots are 22-18 Crunch. good period by Goldy. he certainly has the hot hand in this game and continued where he left off last night. this game doesn't matter anymore but he continues to be a man amongst these AHLers and he is definitely NHL ready which he showed in his last few games in the Canucks season. kid is a gamer. we were solid defensively for the most parts but a shot from the slot and a tip as well by Syracuse has them up. they are still playing for the division. the St John's game last weekend killed our chances basically but it was a good run to be a part of. Jake gets an apple on Goldy's marker after finding him nearby and Goldy just drove hard to the net. shame though. having him a few games earlier would've helped Utica's playoff chances greatly but guess it was better for him to get some experience and get ready for next season.

Once their season was a write off they should have done everything to put Utica in the best position they could to give playoff experience to their prospects.

Any plugs on PTO's could have filled in.

You mean the Canucks should have kept Tuomo Ruutu and sent down Chaput?

At least we know Goldy has no business playing in the AHL. Print and hand him his certificate; he's graduated. Lets hope he gets an NHL coach that doesn't just use benching as a coaching tool.

Dem some soft mitts

That's a wrap on the Comets' season as they lose 5-2 and fall just short of the playoffs. Not going to linger too much on this game; it was a tough one to watch especially with the way it started, and I spent a lot of time switching over to check the St. John's-Toronto score. Even with the season finishing the way it did, its been a fun ride and I've enjoyed watching more Comets games this year than I ever have before, getting to follow the players every weekend and watch them develop bit by bit.

I'll probably make a few more wrap-up posts in the near future on various players and such. Can't wait until training camp and I hope next year holds better things for both the Canucks and the Comets.
