Imagine, if we picked tkachuk last year as most thought , and picked glass this year, could u imagine how this team would look and play? all i can say is amazing ...but do agree with some, ppl need to relax with the hate, yes JB shocked alot with this pick, and yes its pretty risky, he could be a great player for us or be a bust :( , only time will tell

Just now, Toni Zamboni said:

well now we know who they were alluding to pre show when they said someone did poorly in the interview process and his stock fell drastically as a result. Vilardi.

yessss that must be it

Wonder if he was cocky? Bad attitude?

Anyways if so Necas Tippett etc could go before him

I was surprised at first cause i thought it was a no brainer that we would pick Glass, but now im really loving the Petterson pick!

been reading other teams forums and the consensus is we got a great player with elite skill.

Skating

Pettersson is a good skater. His top end speed and acceleration are both very good, but there is still room to improve as well. The best part of his skating though is his agility and edge work. Pettersson can stop and cut on a dime, and make a number of moves that can help him to get past a defender. His balance and power leave something to be desired, though that is likely due to his slender frame. If he can add lower body strength, he would be better on the boards, and at fighting through checks.

Offensive Game

Pettersson has a very good frame, but really needs to bulk up. He has very good offensive instincts and makes smart plays with the puck. His hockey IQ is his biggest weapon, as it seems that Pettersson almost always makes the right play with the puck on his stick. Pettersson is very good at give-and-go type plays, dishing the puck and then skating to open ice. He shows off his intelligence by spotting the open areas of the ice, and getting himself open to make plays.

His stick handling and puck possession are also extremely good, and he can create plays off the rush or in the offensive zone. He can make plays with the puck while moving at top speed. He also controls the puck well down low, but this is an area where the added bulk will really be needed before he moves to the next level. Pettersson shows a very good work ethic. He is tenacious in puck pursuit, and with his forechecking, despite his slender fram. Pettersson is also extremely hard to stop if he gets a defenceman one-on-one. He also has excellent vision and passing skills. To top it off, he has a strong and accurate wrist shot and quick release.

Defensive Game

Pettersson’s work ethic extends to all three zones. He continues his relentless pursuit of the puck into the neutral and defensive zones. He brings excellent back pressure and supports the defence down low. Pettersson has very good hockey IQ, and is rarely caught out of position. At the international level, he has been used on the penalty kill, showing a willingness to block shots as well.

So basically the European Glass

Benning can't winn. Shoulda took Nylander not Virtanen. Pettersson has skills. Some of the best hands in the draft. Good lateral moves. Good shot and good release. He just needs to beef up a bit. Plus he gets to develop alongside another skilled prospect.

It's just tough when you've got a guy taken right after him who is the right pick.

We take Virtanen, Nylander goes directly after him.

We take Petterson, Glass gets taken directly after him.

I just think the drop off in talent from Petterson to Glass isn't as much as the drop off in strength and size from Glass to Petterson, if that makes sense?

We're looking for a center who can play strong on the puck and well defensively in a tough Western Conference. There aren't many skinny small weak centers anymore because of the need to play well defensively. Sure, he'll complement Horvat well, but at the end of the day we need our top center to be able to do everything. IMO the biggest reason we didn't win the Cup in 2011 was because our center (Henrik) didn't play well defensively and was scored on time and time again while the Bruins' centers (Krejci and Bergeron) were fantastic defensively, AND could score. Look at Crosby, he can play both ends of the rink well. Look at Toews, fantastic 2-way player. Look at Kopitar, deserves a Selke. We've got Horvat, fantastic, but we had a chance at a good two-way top line center in Vilardi, Mittelstatd or Glass, and instead take a one-way high-offensive talent in Petterson. Yes, he's been used in the PK before but he's going to get over-worked pretty easily along the boards with that size.

Off the board for sure but lets just see what happens now, he's still at least a year or two away from the NHL.

Basically a highly skilled two way player that needs to get bigger and stronger.

This pick could be insane.

"Wahhh Benning shoulda picked Nylander what an idiot"

**picks a player BETTER than Nylander in 2017**

"What an idiot Benning is."

I usually defend benning, i cheer hard for guys like Jake to turn it around, I think Juolevi will be a stable  and positive contributor on the blue line for years, but when all scouting agencies rank multiple players ahead of Jim's pick, people shouldnt be chastised for wondering WTF.
