Play Holm's first NHL game against one of the best teams currently in the NHL in their building. This should go well.

I'm glad they are putting him in a position to succeed on the PP. Unfortunately the Sedins are the ones that should've been taken off the top unit, not Horvat.

I think you might be over-reacting here.

Holm isn't a kid - he's 26, spent 7 years in the SweHL, plays a significant role in all situations in Utica - and regardless of who the opponent is, he's likely to be paired with a younger guy on the 3rd pairing - if not Pouliot, probably Stecher....or Biega.

I wouldn't worry too much about him being a shrinking violet that is damaged too much by being 'exposed'.   My guess would be that he welcomes the opportunity - and being on the road, he doesn't deal with the microscope and the team has tended to perform better on the road.

I'm just looking forward to seeing what he's capable of - and really, Pouliot has been better without the puck this year than I expected him to be, so...whatever happens, happens,  The results don't really matter much at this point in any event.

Depends on the return.  I am fine shipping Goldy if its for defensive depth or another need.  Scoring prospects is actually our strong point right now for a change :)

I think that the could move a D but it's going to be a lefty.  There are plenty on the left side but not on the right.  My list would be Hutton, MDZ and Pouliot in that order

More like the Canucks caved to the pressure from the incessant whiners at TSN 1040 .

Oh whatever, put on your big boy pants, you sound a bit daft. You think there is pressure in this town? Players got it easy here. For exmple, Erickson gettin paid, not even breaking a sweat, but he sure does have pretty hair.

Big boy pants.

Is overpaid Gudbranson a healthy scratch then?

Honestly I overlooked the fact that he's 26 already. I thought he was like a 22-23 year old project prospect. I guess it's good to put him in the pressure cooker because it's really now or never for him.

With that said, I'm surprised at the hype for him then. Seems very Larsen-esque. His production is decent, but so is Weircioch and there isn't even a peep about him getting a shot. Weircioch is only a year older and a local guy that I thought looked good in preseason and was a late cut only because Pouliot was acquired.

Not sure there is that much hype - but he's not really Larsenesque - he's actually quite the opposite - a defenseman that plays in all situatons and scores relatively respectable production.

I think he's a better defensive D than Larsen, who was more an upside gamble to see if he could move the puck, be a powerplay specialist.

I think Holm is a lot more steady / two-way D.

Per the SHL stats page he did not see any PP time in Vaxjo but was the 3rd most used D on the penalty kill.  The two seasons before he was with Djugarden and also did not play on the PP.

Larsen is the opposite - played on the PP but not on the PK.

I guess I should've been more clear, I meant an older player (not a 22-23 year old) coming from a Euro league after having success there rather than a young guy with potentially more potential. I can see how I could be misinterpreted there so I apologize.

As for the hype, just look at the first couple of pages in this thread alone. My point is Weircioch is probably just as deserving of some minutes in the NHL (based on age and production), but it seems like all year I've been seeing/hearing about how Holm should get a chance and nothing about Weircioch (who has been decent in previous NHL seasons and has done well in the AHL this year so far).

no need.

I agree about Weircioch - he was good in preseason - looked like he might command a third paiing role and may have outcompeted Hutton in due course if he'd stuck around.

I think Holm has been the key guy in Utica though - imagine it has a lot to do with Trent Cull's feedback and apparently they figure Holm's earned a look.
