Sorry but you lost me at Edler for 4 years, and Seabrook 5 more years at 6.875 mill. You also forgot to include what you're planning on giving up for Seabrook, Joki and a pick.

2 years for Edler or let him walk

> Re-sign Edler 4x$6m without any clauses

> Trade for Seabrook+Jokiharju+mid pick

(similar to Bickell trade for Hawks to get cap relief. Seabrook waives to come to hometown)

> Trade Tanev+Hawks mid pick for Nylander

(Leafs get cap space and solidify blueline. Tanev waives for hometown)

> Trade Sutter to team lacking centre for pick or prospect

> Sign Girardi 1x$3.5m for insurance

Baertschi - Bo - Boeser

Leivo - EP - Nylander

Pearson - Gaudette - Goldy

Roussel - Beagle - Eriksson

(Spooner, xyz)

Edler - Stecher

Hughes - Seabrook

Jokiharju - Girardi

(Hutton, Biega, Sautner, Chatfield)

Markstrom - Demko

Good mix of skilled youth and quality vets. Can see this team finally challenging for a playoff spot and on the start of an upward trajectory for the new core group to eventually contend for a Cup.

Your hearts in the right place OP but I'm taking exception with a couple points

  1. Edler wants 4 years, Canucks want 2......there's no telling how the negotiations fall out but lets split the difference with 3 years.  Probably at a bigger cap hit than they want with a back diving salary.  7.5 + 7.5 + 3 = 6.0 AAV.  Give him his NTC for the first 2 but not for the last.  I'm not so sure Edler will fall off the table like so many say even though the odds say yes
  2. Seabrook? Seriously?  That's a grievous contract.  Please no
  3. The Leafs may bite on Tanev after their D gets exposed in the playoffs but since Guddy is gone, that puts the Canucks in a bind on the right side for next year.  Finding 1 good RHD is a tall order but 2?
  4. Sutter is getting slagged but look, he's been struggling with a sports hernia at maybe 60% for most of the season.  If this can be put right, he'll be fine and Bennings great plan of having 2 quality match up lines going into next season will be nice.  However, this was set up when they had no idea how Petey would turn out.  Obviously he has exceeded expectations.  So has Gaudette to a lesser degree.   A healthy Sutter is still a player to keep even if he gets used as a winger 5 v 5 and as a PK specialist.  I don't think they need to be scrambling for a top 6 winger unnecessarily

Goldobin Petersson Boeser

Pearson Horvat Sutter

Leivo Gaudette Virtanen

Roussel Beagle Motte

Spooner MacEwen (assuming Baer is done :()

Benning has said that he wants to make over the D.  I imagine this means free agency but I'm not sure who he could get to shore up the right side.  Pouliot is gone off the left, Hughes is in.  That much makes the Canucks a better team next year

Edler Tanev

Hughes Stecher

Hutton   XXXX

Sautner Schenn

Marky Demko.....is fine

Canucks are going to target a D-man in the off-season, maybe a forward. I expect them to go hard after Karlsson, and look to re-sign Edler. If the Canucks and Edler cannot come to an agreement, they will likely try to sign Gardiner (yuck).

Edler - Karlsson
Hutton - Stecher

Hughes - Tanev

Gardiner - Karlsson
Hutton - Stecher
Hughes - Tanev

I could also see no Gardiner, and no Edler, and instead going hard after Karlsson and Panarin.

Hutton - Karlsson
Juolevi - Stecher
Hughes - Tanev

Panarin - Pettersson - Boeser
Pearson - Horvat - Leivo
Goldobin - Gaudette - Virtanen
Rousell - Beagle - Motte

Dump Eriksson to a team needing cap and Sutter to a team needing center depth.

Ferland Petey Boeser

Baer"?"(Lievo) Bo Kakko (Leivo)

Pearson Guadette Virtanen

Roussel Beagle Motte/McEwan

Goldy

Dump Granlund, Erickson, Trade Sutter

Edler Tanev

Hughes Myers

Hutton Stecher

seabrook    really    how is that suppose to make us younger and faster  seabrook is older  and slower,      then you want edler for 4 years for 6 mill a year   that's over 12 million a season  and then u want nylander  at another 8   mil     that's 20 mil right there  that's almost 25 percent of cap space on those 3    no just no

As a Hawks fan, I'm curious as to what exactly you're offering.   Are the Hawks getting anything?  If not then the answer is no.

Nothing, if not close to nothing. It’s a get out of jail free card for the Hawks as they’re in cap hell. Bickell’s contract was a fraction of Seabrook’s.

If anything, Canucks can give a 3rd and Hawks give a 5th / move up a few rounds ?

It won't happen for "nothing". If Hawks send out an email to the rest of the league saying, we want to get rid of Seabrook and we are including Jorkiharju + mid round pick then someone will surely outbid our offer of "nothing."

But it would be really fun to see the look on Stan Bowmans's face as he opens emails from other GMs on what they are willing to give up, and he opens Vancouver's, and it says, "Stan, I'm offering get out of jail free card." Or even more funny, the email is empty, no subject, not even a single line of text. JB's way of indicating that the offer is "nothing."

But I guess there is one way where the return might be close to nothing. That is if Seabrook is only willing to waive his NTC for Vancouver. But I never got a sense that he had any preference to play for Vancouver over other teams.

if green lets quinn play right side defense that he can do, defense would be better.

edler...hughes;   hutton...stecher;  juolevi or sautner or brisebois...tanev.

when woo is ready, move tanev and when byram is ready, move edler.

save the cap space for when hughes and byram, require bigger contracts.

let other teams tie themselves down with enormous contracts

stay the course.

Seabrook still does play defense...he blocks shots, he hits, he kills penalties, and he chips in offensively (currently outscoring Loui Ericsson).  He still contributes.  He just isn't worth his contract. But it's not so bad the Hawks throw away a potential top pair defenseman and a 1st (of which might be very high this year)

Hawks probably take a chance of another buyout after the next CBA negotiations rather than lose that much future assets.

And for the record, the Hawks have no cap issues right now, so there is no desperation to move Seabrook.

When does NMC expire?

Cannot buyout, or even bury in minors...

Kacko is the top line talent.

Ferland the bull who can head hunt opposing D on a line with Bo and Jake. Win a high % of shifts with speed and sheer brute strength. 4 guys pushing 220lbs.

But Ferland is not a real top line forward. Reverse places with Kacko and we have sublime top line; Kacko Petey Boeser

The NMC is for another three seasons beyond this one.  But I don't he waives for anywhere else after Vancouver other than back to Chicago.

Realistically, by that time any team that has Seabrook will be hoping for the new CBA to include an additional buyout and that buyout being used on him.  Either that or Hossa's rash was contagious and Seabrook eventually becomes symptomatic. Because he still contributes now, but by the end of the contract Seabrook will be utterly useless.

Kakko is not anything until he plays a season in the nhl and shows he is ready. Ferland is a great first line winger for Petey and Boeser because he’s fast, physical and has hands. He will create room for them and be a deterrent. Putting him with bo and Jake is redundant. You set lines to complement each other not be all the same style of player. This is why the twins worked with Burrows - passer, shooter, guy who forchecks and goes to the dirty areas. Matthews, Nylander and Brown/ Hyman, Bossy, Trottier, Gillies, etc etc.
