The Strange Case of Jussie Smollett

I haven't read anything about the latest news on this, but in the statements I have heard on the radio, I haven't heard any mention of any renewed investigation into catching the real attackers.

If he is truly innocent and the attack wasn't staged, isn't there going to be an attempt to bring the attackers to justice?  I didnt hear any statement from Jussie suggesting the hunt is resuming.  You'd think that would be important, getting slime like that off the streets.

Yeah and OJ is still searching too, probably the same people who believe him believe Smolett too.

I thought all along it was staged.  I think the prosecution felt it wasn't worth pursuing charges, that the forfeited 10,000 bond and few days of community service was enough.

And the murder of a bunch of people in a  Synagogue reflects poorly on the right, but they'd all get pretty upset if you made the leap that the attack was going to cost the republicans the election.

That poster likes to parrot wingnut youtube "journalists", so yeah the "perception" is that the "left" is to blame for Smollett. Just like Smollett is going to be the crucial issue to push Trump over the line in 2020.

You don’t feel there’s a difference when the MSM jumps all over the story guilt shaming white people all over again for something that didn’t happen? If there was an MSM source other than Fox calling it a CIA conspiracy or some BS I’d give your comparison merit.

Trump wont win.

Bernie will have to take another dive.

They said that during the 2016 campaign and look what happened.  The strategy is starting to emerge now, EVERYTHING is becoming a partisan "Right vs Left" issue (even this Smollett case, why?).  In American politics, if it's a "Right vs Left" the Right will win 99.999999999999% of the time.  The GOP will make anything not Tea Party right sound so socialist your held will spin and if they can pull that off successfully, they will win in a landslide.  As much as I like Bernie and his ideas, Trump and the GOP will beat him in the poll booth handily if he's the Democratic candidate.

There's gotta be more to it than that.

The 10k and the community service are chump change, especially considering the cost of the investigation and the court's time.  If he did stage it, the money and service is not a deterrent from trying it again.

I suspect something else is driving the prosecution here.

Why?

Maybe I'm off base, but I don't see a politician, lawyer, etc sticking their neck out for a C-list celebrity.

He is tied at the hip to Kamala Harris.  And the Obamas.

George Soros donated 414k to the prosecutor, who had recused herself from the case, only to swoop in, let him off, and have the judge seal the case!

This is 100% political.   And the new normal in the USSA.

Perhaps what was meant was that in Jussie's situation, so many on the left (politicians, media, celebrities) were falling over themselves showing their support for him in the latest rush to judgment, casting further doubts on their credibility.

You don't think there's anything wrong with someone faking a hate crime? You don't think there's anything wrong with the fact that Smollett would of been perfectly fine with 2 innocent people going o jail and having their lives destroyed,  had his lie actually worked? You don't take issue that this hoax became immediately politicized and used by dems and liberal media to just add more fuel to an already divided society?

What do you think would of happened if the roles were reversed. If a white guy faked a hate crime against 2 black guys? There would of been riots in Chicago.

Celebrity or not, this guy did a disgusting crime, and should pay the price. Having all charges dropped and losing 10k is pathetic and just shows how corrupt the judicial system truly is.

All across the US there are these programs called Alternative Sentencing Programs.  Where for first time offenders, in non violent crimes, defendants are often let off with a slap on the wrist, if they plead guilty.

But because this case is sealed (LOL!) we will never know, and, he is using this 'feature' to flaunt his phony innocence.

Jussie is a liar, a sociopath, and a crappy actor.

They caught the “attackers” awhile ago. And in the process, they also caught the $3,500 check he made out to his attackers.

Sorry, I missed all the guilt shaming of white people. From what I could tell, people were upset, but I didn't see any news outlet saying that all white people bore responsibility.

Maybe you could post some examples.

I don't know....AFAIK, there was no reason to disbelieve the story when it first came out. It's not like Smollett was known as a serial liar....but we all know for a fact that the Right vehemently defends someone fitting that description.

That being the case, I hardly think it's surprising that people were outraged by the story. TBH, I think it's odd that you folks on the right think that you've somehow scored this big "gotcha!" on every one to the left of the political spectrum, just because of the actions of one guy, but if it helps you all sleep at night....
