Yea and it opened up more plays.  You had to watch his one timer which opened up the half boards or vice versa.

Completely agree, a team had to cover for that, which if now you ran an umbrella or  1-3-1 with a salo player at the top the defence are screwed, cover for the slap and leave Pety at the half boards where the lives to wrist it from, or cover Petey and let a boomer of a shot go on the net (or if lane is blocked hit the back board for a rebound)

Whenever I see the second line power play come out, and Edler immediately starts dropping his super long and predictable back passes as they move up the ice, I keep thinking OMG this used to be our power play for so many years! Remember when Hughes first arrived and Edler was being used ahead of him for several games? I seriously thought at the time that Green would get fired over that if things didn’t change stat.

I would like to see this team on the PP try and run a behind the net PP as netminders hate that play and if set up right and the blues cover the deep player it leave the C free in the slot

WG of course gave opposing teams fits doing this ... BB would be the guy to make those plays or Horvat with with the other guys waiting ... could be tough with those monsters patrolling back there but it’s worth a shot.   At least work those plays to add them to their toolbox.  For the most part the man advantage we have done a good job of hemming them in - for me I’d like to see them try and not get so cute looking for the perfect play (although those are great looking goals) and shoot the puck more often - with more fakes (fake a pass or fake a shot and then shoot it) too many times I see Miller opting out on what could be a quick shot in net or EP too and instead passing it back to QHs..they aren’t giving him much room at all yet somehow he’s getting the pass off - but I worry about a breakaway almost once a PP - it’s been too close for comfort at times (player covering QHs) think the rest of the PP is relying on him a little too much and needs to take advantage of those passes as soon as they come in.

TG didn’t wait long to make the change...also like Myers on the second PP unit more too bad he’s injured and yes since maybe 2013 the Sedin PP looked stale and just got worse over time.   Crazy considering how amazing it was at their peak (our second unit was also good then).      When BB arrived our PP went from 23rd to 9th overall ... of course he was feasting on it his rookie year but it goes to show what a new look can do ...  The Blues haven’t so much figured us out as the team just hasn’t been able to convert with Allen in net.   We should bounce back - it’s been hot and cold all year ... and despite all the Newell Brown hate it’s been one of the best in the league.   We have two amazing players on it and three other very good foot soldiers - with that much talent it won’t  stay off for long.

Slegr ha ha.   Remember his shot from the point?  It was a total bullet but all over the place - every player on the ice had to watch out it was anyone’s guess where it might go including right into a guy like Chara or Myers face (when they were standing up) ha ha... always liked him though

Good thing the Ring of Honour wasn't around then or the team would have gone bankrupt replacing it every third home game.

Memories of 2002...

Think this came up before the series as when have we ever started a first round against a powerhouse team (or cup champ even)..  2002 seemed like a good comparable - as did 94 drawing Calgary as they were arguably the best in the west...same with 89.   So far the storyline is similar to 2002 for sure ... except it wasn’t our goalie that made the difference it was their goalie if you know what I mean (swapping Binnington is the “Clouiter” affect)...

PP's too predictable right now. They know the shot will either come from Pettersson on the right, Hughes at the line, or Bo in the slot. We need to open Pettersson up for his one timer. I suggest putting Boeser in place of Miller on the left side half-wall to keep them guessing where the shot is coming from. Quicker puck movement will also open up shooting lanes. Seems kinda senseless having one of our best shooters below the goal line to battle for pucks/rebounds. More of Miller's forte than Boeser's, imo.

I would like to see then play with a little more pace as well...they seemed to be a tad slower in making the passes, and the passes themselves...

I thought about that too - using Miller if they decide to use the back of the net but I feel much safer keeping him where he’s currently used then moving BB back there - Miller does a good job in holding that side back and keeping the puck in play then BB does.   Agree that BB shot is kind of wasted and it’s worth trying - I also think that our PP last game was hijacked early with counter calls which doesn’t help.  Team usually needs a few reps to get it going - we saw this against MIN and they brought that into this series rating to go ... Allen is the biggest change at this point.   Feel they need to get bodies infront and stop looking for the perfect play

I'm going with a glass half full approach.

Yes St Louis has all the momentum but we were very tired last game, we played more meaningful games than they had. They kind of mailed it in during the round Robin section while we played 4 tight physical games against the wild.

I think the boys come out flying tonight, no prediction on the outcome cause I'm proud of them no matter what. But we are down to a best of 3 and last time I checked we won the first 2 of 3 games in this series.

And adversity is good for this group. 94 we had 3 overtime come from behind wins to extinguish the flames after being down 3-1.

In 2011 the hawks fought back and won 3 in a row to tie the series and we eventually put them away ala dragonslayer.

This is the ultimate test so far for our boys!

For me I’m not the biggest fan of Green but I have seen him grow during the playoffs and feel he might be a lot better for it. I also feel he will have more confidence when sitting down with JB in knowing exactly what and who this team needs to make it better, and the style it needs to play in.

i do think the assistant coaches and support team behind green needs an overhaul. The only one I would keep would be Malholtra and maybe move him behind the bench, and then go look for some proper defence specialist coaches. Also we need to be able to break teams down better when they are set and it’s a struggle we have had all season. It’s not just the kids but the whole team which means it needs a look at.

i think Green has earnt some time and good will and we need to give him to tools to succeed, then we can evaluate performance then

Don't really have the biggest of issues with our coaching team, but if it was to be adjusted, I would definitely keep Ian Clark as well...has done wonders with Marky.

Okay clear out was probably a bit drastic, but I do thinking needs some changes in there

The only coach that might be switched out is Bomber ... hard to fire a coach that’s produced one of the best PPs in the league (was it 4 or 5?) even with the troops we’ve had.   Clark has done wonders and of course Maholtra and our players have one of the best groups in the dot in the entire league too.   EPs and AGs lower it but they will come with time ...at this point I also believe TG is the right coach for this team.   He’s turned Pearson’s career completely around and is if anything overly mindful of his line combo’s heavily relying on both the eye test and every stat imaginable (and some before it was vogue - a little Neilson in him).  He’s also one of the hardest working coaches in the entire league continually trying to get better and help the team get better.   Personally I don’t take much issue with the coaching staff and believe TG and his group are vital cogs in helping the young players get to the next level.  Once we get there then maybe he won’t be the right fit anymore but I wouldn’t bet on it either.   This group will only grow tighter with time.
