Pearson was a productive player season after last. If he returns to form, there is no reason not to keep him on the 2nd, maintaining a winger for Bo which he hasn't had a lot of prior. Who do you propose moves to 2nd? Podkolzin - who has played 0 games in the NHL?

At least wait for camp.

If the Canucks want 3 scoring lines like they say, they could do worse than signing Schwartz.

If you really dive into the numbers, Bo isnt actually the one who needs Pearson. Its actually the other way around.

Hoglander-EP-Boeser

Schwartz-Miller-Podkolzin

Pearson-Horvat-Highmore/Gadjovich/Lind

If keeping Bo with Pearson is a priority (imo it shouldnt be, Horvat needs an upgrade) the only way that makes sense this season if playoffs are the goal and based on a realistic change that can be afforded is something like the above lineup. I would be fine with something like this though:

Miller-EP-Boeser

Schwartz-Horvat-Hoglander

Pearson-better 3C than Sutter-Podkolzin

Gads is actually pretty fast in a straight line; it’s his first couple steps that are slow.  He makes up for his lack of quickness though with smarts.  I think he could definitely play with Petey and Bess.

Hes not slow.  His skating is nhl level.  Hes just not going to blow anyone away

he still needs to work on his skating, he has the smarts and the size but needs to get faster to be more effective

He needs to get quicker, which I’m sure he’s working on.  Fortunately Gads is super smart, so he reads the game very quickly.  I  would like to see him with Petey and Bess.

Podkolzin doesn't strike me as a guy who would go all Gino on an opponent trying to take liberties on his linemates, whereas Gadjovich has already demonstrated that in one of the games this season.  Gadjovich seems to be a much better deterrent from the funny stuff other teams' rats would do than Podkolzin.

Gadj is tough as nails.  If we can get Mac and Gadj playing to their potential we will have a tough team to play against.

Krakers are taking Holtby and trading him to Boston.  This is almost a for sure rumour, so could happen.

That would be awesome. Bring in a backup on a cheap deal then we have money to spend on a roster player.

Otherwise hopefully Holtby is able to build off changes he started making last year, plays reasonable well, then we can trade him at the deadline.

Might be hoping that he gets taken by the Kraken in the expansion draft.

Frankly Gudbranson was out of his element when he was asked to be on a top pairing. As a 6-7 defenseman, he's a fine choice, in my opinion, especially if paired with a responsible defender like Edler. Those two were effective together. The main issue with him is that his salary was probably too much for what he offered.

He is a fearless player who will take anyone on though. Seeing him manhandle Tom Wilson on a couple of occasions, once with Vancouver and once with Pittsburgh, is impressive. @oldnews can probably provide more insight into the Gudbranson conundrum.

Oleksiak is probably the best choice is size and strength are the primary goal. At 6'7" and 255 lbs., he's the biggest of the bunch. Savard, Schenn, and Hamonic would be solid choices as well. All are calm, smart defensemen who are also as tough as nails.

Harmonic is a likely option, especially if Edler doesn’t reap or Miller is taken.

I would take a run at Oleksiak too.  Has better wheels than Schenn or Guddy, who are both slow.  If it was a cheap deal, Schenn over Guddy.   Really liked how Schenn paired with mobile guys.  He has a knack for being a good solid if not slow secondary partner for a rover style guy in limited minutes.

Would love to see Gadj or Mack with Petey and Hogz one day.

Not like days of old though

Gadget would be handed penalties for even roughing and Petey and Hodz would be on the bench

Opposition advantage accomplished

Guys need to fight back with team toughness, not one guy refs will be focused on

Tbf weve already improved scoring on our 3rd line just by adding podz. Its a damn good start already.

If Green put Hoglander on the second line with Bo after a good preseason what are the odds he doesn't do the same type of thing with Podkolzin if shows well in Camp ? If they Put Miller as 3C might Podkolzin be the one to replace him ? Setting up Petey and Boeser as apposed to the guys in Russia who couldn't make hay with all his setups [ only watched him play in the WJ and read about his play on the Russian teams ] . Was frustrating watching him play with others that never seemed to be ready for what he could do , really want to see him play with talented players
