Just drafted young kid, who is still physically maturing - lest you forget.

Seriously, we have an elite young core.  Excellent support players, and some fantastic young prospects!

Look at the Loser Leafs and their Dumbass Shanaplan.  It’s a total failure.  They have overpaid core players, who are all look at me me guys.  And no prospects.  Drink some booze man, and be a fan.

Frankly I'd never use the Leafs as a comparison. I tend to think TB and the Avs are better candidates to use as a model. The other point to remember before we all get carried away and start swooning over prospects, after the first round there's only a 20% chnace of success or to put it another way 80% chnace of failure. I think that hockey leagues are NHL, KHL, SEL/AHL and he plays in the Allsvenskan which is 2nd Div Swedish Hockey

I don't get the point of this.  Our 6th round pick, drafted 169th overall 18 yr old dman is playing against men and is on the first line powerplay.  Evan Bouchard played in this league last year and got 17 pts in 24 games.  He was 22.  This is an achievement for a guy who was drafted that low.

OEL had 27 pts in 42 games as an 18 yr old which is the record.  I am excited to see what Gabrielsson can do.

TBay is great.  They traded (or signed as a UFA) for all their D on their two cup teams except for Hedman.  They traded for (or signed as UFA) very key depth prices in their forwards.  Drafted their core, and traded for (or signed as UFAs) support players.

Little Joe is ruining a good thing in Colorado.

TBay traded us maybe our best forward for a 1st round pick & they still won two Cups.  As to the cap manipulation......."It ain't cheating if you don't get caught".

You may be overstating the difference between the Allsvenskan and the SHL, as teams can be promoted and relegated between the 2 leagues. From what I've heard,  the quality of the two leagues is more comparable than an NHL / AHL situation.

I know but he is 18 and this is a great place for him to play.  If he was a 24 year old prospect and was still in the Allsvenskan, your derision would be understandable. Hugo is in a great position to get big minutes against men.

I'm not deriding the player, good luck to the kid. However evey year after every draft youngsters who we've never seen play suddenly creep out from the shadows and become great prospects. We know little about them and fans start fantasizing about them and their future. IMO it's ridiculous. The  Swedish second league is just  that second. If this kid was great I'd suspect he'd be in the SEL. Karsson played in that league last season, Vcr has yet to sign him, he's 21 years old. Dahleen played in that league I believe the phrase is don't count your chickens before they've hatched. He may do well ( lets hope ) but let's be patient, watch and see. By the way 18 year old do play in the SEL, Hoglender did and many others

It's actually probably closer to the difference between the best teams and the worst teams in the NHL.

So what?  This is a Canuck’s forum.  Bad mouthing our prospects and young players is what other teams’ fans do.

Who do your beloved Avs have as prospects?  Nothing!  They are crap!  And Mackinnon is a freak!  Who the heck forces their teammates to eat tofu, but a freak?  Makar is injury prone, and will likely get broken.  He carries the puck too much with his head down.  It will soon be stretcher time, and he will meet his maker.  (Ha ha ha).

You see?  Other teams’ fans are hyper critical.  Take that!

Allsvenskan is a much better league then all the Canadian junior leagues I would think, no?

I think I would pick any Allsvenskan team to beat any NCAA team as well, just based on the age of players.

Interesting comparison, Here's the catch not all CHL players will play in the NHL and certainly not all  Allsvenskan players either but there's still a lot more.... and I mean a lot more CHL players play in the NHL than  Allsvenskan players. I can't judge how well a NCAA team would perform against an  Allsvenskan team. But you look at U Michigan who have 4 fiirst round draft picls on their roster ... now which  Allsvenskan team can boast that. In fact Swedes are now turning to play in the NCAA now rather than play in Sweden with a  Allsvenskan team (U mich has a Swedish goalie) There's a lot of NCAA player in the NHL now in fact recently we had Stecher, Hughes, Lockwood Demko .... need I go on in Vcr and the number of  Allsvenskan players, Oooooops. I hope this kid does well .... why wouldn't I, but lets not  get orgasmic over a kid scoring a goal in the  Allsvenskan league. If he plays in the SEL next season, that'll be good but no a guarantee either. As my secretary used to say to me patience seldom in a woman and never in a man

Here's maybe a more unbiased view of Gabrielson from, you know, the Pro Scouts.  Central scout does not have a dog in the fight, so lets hope but not get carried away

Every year there’s at least four or five prospects who put up impressive numbers in their respective leagues and are acknowledged by the blogosphere but never get as much as a nod from Central Scouting. One of this year’s examples is Gabrielson, who is a power-play specialist and one of the top-scoring defensemen in the J20 Nationell’s shortened season in spite of playing middle to bottom-six minutes. Granted, there’s always the chance that the NHL’s official scouting crew has access to off-ice information that impact how they rate a prospect’s potential

I'll say this the primary amateur scoutin Swedin is now Patrik Jonsson

FIGHTING SAINTS’ EUROPEAN SCOUT JOINS NHL RANKS

DUBUQUE, Iowa — Dubuque Fighting Saints scout Patrik Jonsson has been named an Amateur Scout for the Vancouver Canucks of the NHL. Jonsson’s scouting focus will include all of Europe, specifically Sweden, for the Canucks organization.

“I have had some very educating years with Dubuque getting to know the organization, and the staff has really helped me develop as a scout and as a talent evaluator,” Jonsson said. “Learning the level of play in the U.S. and Canadian leagues has really developed me as a scout and has been a key experience that has allowed me to move on as a scout.”

Jonsson has served as a coach, general manager, and as a scout throughout his career. He joins a Canucks team that has a tradition of drafting and developing high-end European players, including Henrik and Daniel Sedin, Alex Edler, and top defensive prospect Olli Juolevi.

including HockeyAllsvenskan, Head Coach. 2008-09, Hanviken/Tyresö · Division 2, Head Coach.
