JC2 Posted July 23, 2022 Share Posted July 23, 2022 One could argue its a big overpayment from the panthers but when you factor in that both Huberdeau and Weegar are set to be free agents in one more year and are going to be 30 and 29 then its clear why Florida made the deal. They don't want to have to commit massive contracts to two players that will likely become anchors eventually and they pick up a player already capable of putting up 100 points who isn't even in their prime yet. Only 24. That's why his return was so high. Never know if any player will win a cup. Depends on the team . But he'll play a huge part if he wins a cup. Everyone was thinking ok go up and pick Tkachuk. And he shocks everyone with Juolevi. Would have loved a tough pesky powerforward in Tkachuk on our team. They didn't have to be filed in the past but that Dadonov failed trade highlighted a flaw in the process. Would guess that central registry made sure that all trade lists were filed this season. They are getting younger and tougher with MT, they are moving older players with expiring contracts. And the new contract for MT isn't that much if you consider the inflation we actually have. Duclair hurt his Achilles in off-season training and will be out for a while. He had surgery and they are talking of mid-season before he can return. He has a 3M cap hit. They can put him on LTIR and demote a player to run with a roster of 20 and they'll be cap compliant to start the season. A bit tight but it's an option.
