wow, glad you are only an armchair gm. Hope the canucks team is smarter and just extends him, as they can actually afford to pay him more than his last 3 rental seasons.

Ofcourse the Canucks can afford to pay him more. They could probably give him a solid two to three year deal with trade protection.

Whether they trade him or he finishes out the season in Vancouver does NOT play into whether he signs here. There is no burnt bridges or hurt feelings when he gets moved.

So you are suggesting it would be smarter for the team to decline adding a pick or prospect or combo of a return for Schenn ? Further just electing to extend him on a multi year deal?

If you can secure " free assets " for Schenn why wouldn't you?

Again, trading him won't sour him on signing here anyways if he wants to and not being a key roster player he wouldn't expect a new contract until well after free agency anyways.

If we are going to ever see Myers and OEL get to be good defensemen again, Schenn is the guy. I dont know how we are stuck paying OEL8mil and Myers 6 or 7 but Schenn will embarass them into earning thier keep, since we cant seem to trade those guys., So Schenn needs to stay, and Canucks need to ensure he stays. How many 3rd rounders end up in NHL? How many prospects? Schenn is IN the NHL and his experience is starting to finally show.

I dont think anyone else sees the same value in Schenn as we do. I would hope Van wouldnt give his rights for a 2nd or 3rd pick... they can afford to keep him. Maybe off-season, a trade for demko, schenn, our two first rounders for whoever has Bedard would work.

You're hilarious! Even at this hour of the morning.

Get it done!

I was going to offer Ballard, Raymond and a 2nd but it's probably not enough.

Youre right, the cap hit is 8, they are paying him 10.

Oliver Ekman-Larsson signed a 8 year, $66,000,000 contract with the Arizona Coyotes on Jul. 1, 2018. The contract has a cap hit of $8,250,000.

Arizona retained on the trade so Canucks pay less than 8 million cap hit (7.26 million) though OEL appears to have negative value.

If we could sign Millar to 8 million a year before his contract expired why cant we do a deal with Schenn? I mean, in hindsight we would have all let go of Millar given our cap space. When you inspect our D group, how is 1.5 or 1.6 per year a deal breaker for Schenn? never out of place, always attacking the puck, good board skills, could actually help Myers and OEL become great again. WORTH IT.

A pick is worth more at this point.

They should just buy out Myers or OEL and bury the other in Abbotsford, if that’s possible.

Myers only has one year left.  He has a 5 million bonus due in the summer.  After that is paid, he will be easily tradeable.  Also it doesn't save us any money by buying him out, we just delay the penalty by an extra year.

OEL is not bad enough to be a buyout candidate yet, but none of this has to do with Schenn getting traded.

Since a Schenn trade seems inevitable I just wish they would announce it already. Poor guy has to just sit around not playing while he waits for something. These teams and the new system of “trade related scratches” should be penalized. This needs to be addressed before next season. I don’t mind if it’s a one game thing if it’s like a sure fire same day trade but like Schenn has sat for like 3 games now and Chychrun has been sitting like 2 weeks. It’s unfair to the players and takes away from the game.
