Phil_314 Posted December 8, 2022 Share Posted December 8, 2022 I'm not sure how I'd feel about getting Laine, he doesn't really fit what the team needs IMO (he's another one-dimensional player who mostly thrives on his big shot, but he's even more expensive than Miller and doesn't bring much else besides that bomb -- we already have Miller and Petey as our PP1 shooters). He also costs only slightly less than Boeser and Pearson combined (he's at $8.7 mil * 3 more years) so he'll want top-6 time. If Boeser has a more complete game but still can't fit in, I don't think that Laine would fare any better considering how our PP isn't having any trouble, but rather it's the defense that needs to be addressed. 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

DownUndaCanuck Posted December 13, 2022 Share Posted December 13, 2022 Counter with this to fix all our needs: TO CBJ: Bo Horvat (30% retained) TO VAN: Kuraly + Peeke + 2nd or 3rd round pick We get our young top physical RD who is on a bargain contract next year, 2.7M for the next few years. Kuraly is 29 years old and can play 3C minutes for us under Petey and Miller, and we get a pick. They have Nyqist's 5M off the books next year so can fit Bo. CBJ have shown they want to make big moves and win games, Bo gives them a solid anchor as their top line center. They'll have to re-sign a bunch of their young guys and probably find a defenceman to replace Peeke in the off-season/UFA but they have a lot of young guys on ELCs who might be able to eat some of Peeke's minutes. Meanwhile we get a 3C and partner for Hughes for the next decade, that alone should be worth it. A 1st round pick would be nice but they're not going to give up a top pick, maybe top-10 protected?
