There were rumblings for some time that there was discord between the president and the team’s ownership, but the crux of Linden’s sudden dismissal came down to how long it would be until the NHL playoffs came back to Vancouver. And yet, the Canucks missed the playoffs again this past season. The first instalment of the post-Linden program, where the Canucks once again chased free agents to shore up depth, didn’t work.

And the team isn’t making the playoffs even now.

The disagreed on the how the rebuild would proceed, implying that all believed it was a rebuild, which it was.

I meant good for Linden. He is a smart guy and dodged this mess in hindsight.

JR is a veteran. There is no excuse that should be given to him, versus rookie GMs like Gillis and Benning. His vision is truly bad, starting with the people he picked to help him.

If this was his way of helping the Canucks to tank, then he did a great job because we suck.

My bad. Thought you meant good for Aquilini.

I am just embarrassed of the fact that this team is now the laughing stock of the league right now. We have just plummeted so far to the bottom. It's going to take years to be seen as a classy and professional organization. It's so hard when the owner lacks that professional attitude and class that this franchise desperately needs. You can really tell how bad of a hockey mind he is when he hires Boudreau first, everyone else after. Everyone knew it was a big mistake. You always hire the president and gm first. He put everyone in a pickle with that move. It just shows his lack of judgement.

Whatever Linden’s vision was — and he was viewed as the voice of reason when it came to patiently rebuilding like the Winnipeg Jets —ownership didn’t see it his way. Linden was heading into the final year of his contract.

Linden wanted the right kind of rebuild. Aquilini wanted a patch job.
