I don't prefer to take the train because it can be super long, and the departing time at 5:45pm, which I have to be the the train station by 5:30pm is too short, especially if the train arrives to Vancouver late.

With my last passport, during the last 6 months before it was expiring, I still got into Canada, but they asked more questions and did not like that my passport would not scan. That was about 10 years ago, so things have changed.
