Placed On Waivers:
Zach Boychuk (CAR) Frazer McLaren (SJ) Cam Janssen (NJ)

per tsn icechips.
http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/icechips/

boychuck has some good AHL numbers but hasnt been able to translate that over to the NHL yet. Would be surprised if clears. Can see a few teams taking a chance on a small 23 year old 1st round pick with good AHL numbers.

I doubt the canucks would look at another small player for the record.

Pick him up.

In my eyes drouin is overrated he can score in the qmjhl but did nothing in last two gold medal games that canada lost. Fox will be better pro than him talk to me in five yrs

Gaudreau has one NHL goal whereas all your "prized" prospects have none.

ryan kesler is going to the chicago blackhawks ...       quote me on it

He's going to get picked up way before the Canucks turn to decide....especially with a cap hit of 650K....

I bet he ends up with the Islanders or Columbus.

I remember the year he was drafted, some guy here was constantly pumping him up as a surefire star.

Then again, some guys use being on waivers as a motivating force to get their career on track. Daniel Briere is a good example. Or more recently, Grabner.

He won't fall through every single other team in the league to get to us. There are a number of teams that would take a flyer on him.

Pick him up, much better option than Ebbett. Doubt we get the chance though.

Boychuck is gone for sure, great job Carolina.

I think he's definitely getting picked up, great player, great potential. I wouldn't mind the Canucks snagging him.

Yup! And obviously they would be waiving a player before making the trade...

He was already shopped before placed on waivers. gaurantee.

There are some things we just don't hear about at all. Like stuff like this.

I recall Mike Gillis was targeting him, during the 08 draft. Thank heavens we didn't draft him.

At the beginning of the season, it goes by last season's standings. So we'll be last.

Why pick him up? When Booth and Kesler return he would probably just have to be waived anyways.

Yup, it is based on last year's standing when waivers occurs in the first part of the season. Once there's enough games to use this season as the measuring stick, it'll change to this year's standings. Not sure if there's a difference for the shortened season however, for if it's a month or how many games.

Two team Canada WJC Stars/High draft picks on Waivers within a month. (Hickey and Boychuk)

This is why the World Juniors shouldn't be taken too seriously when trying to project players.

Boychuck-Hodgson-Eberle looked pretty damn good in the WJHC

Not sure why they're giving up on him already, but he can't be any worse than Ebbett. MG should at least try to get him.

it's amazing how many brilliant hockey minds we have posting here that are smarter than jim rutherford, a stanley cup winning general manager.

It's probably because of Canes' ownership actually needing that money freed. 675k might not seem a lot for a team like the Canucks but for the Canes - it financially handcuffs ownership over there. It's pretty sad.

You should tell this to Flames fans who are projecting Johnny Gaudreau as Patrick Kane 2.0

Boychuck will probably be claimed before us, but we should put a claim on McLaren!

He would be a good goon for us, 25 yrs old, 6'5 230lbs. So Volpatti doesnt have to take on the heavyweights.

Well according to this article he was outplayed by Zac Dalpe and Drayson Bowman and there is not room for all 3 in the lineup.
http://www.prosports...ers-773942.html

Boychuck has produced more points than Schroeder in the AHL, so seems like he would be worth a look until Kesler gets back. Ebbett or Schroeder could be sent down.
