Roy was the best option for what we could afford to trade away and we couldnt bring anyone in that had contract after this season. Judge a trade on the merits at the time, not on hindsight. No one really knew that the Canucks would fail so badly in the playoffs, at least not to the certainty that they should have been sellers instead of buyers. It was kcon and a 2nd for a rental of Roy and a pick (3rd or 4th) that could be aquired for his negotiation rights at the draft. There aren't any better options on the free agent market. Just dont re-sign this guy but knowing Gillis he probably will try to re-sign him 5+ mil long term with NTC and call him the biggest acquisition this summer.
