Sedins and Burrows the next four years

50 points total, all together. I'm serious. I don't think the three together will pot 50 points for the Canucks.

:picard:

Burrows might only have 5 points this year, but the Sedins have 40 points each so far. One of them alone can beat 50 points, lett alone both and adding Burrows in.

That's just a stupid statement.

But if they truly continue to decline and can't maintain or improve on their current production I don't see them staying for the length of their contract. They'll retire and go back to Sweden rather than be marginal NHL players (they're still far better than that now).

Why are we even discussing a buyout on Burrows? If we really want to move on from him, I guarantee there would be teams willing to make a trade. His value is at a low, but I'm sure we could get a least picks or lower level prospects. Last trade dealine, look at the bidding war for Clowe. He didn't have a goal in 28 games that season IIRC and SJ got a huge deal, and he scored two goals in his first game after the trade. Burrows still has value to this team and around the league.

Firstly, Clowe was on an expiring contracr, so little risk. Burrows has years at $4.5M left to go.Secondly, that was last deadline. Did you see Vanek fetch a conditional 2nd round pick?No one would take Burrows for free. Everyone has finally figured out the value of cap space. And of draft picks.

calling the Sedins at $7 million a liability is laughable.

In 2 years some 3rd line players will be making $6 million or more so please give your head a shake. Burrows is troubling nobody can deny it. But unlike Cheechoo, Healty, Blake etc he still works his butt off every single shift.

It is shocking and troubling to see how he fairs in a game but again in 2 or 3 years his $4.25 million contract will be about par for the league.

Saying buy them out or trade them shows a serious lack of hockey knowledge and that defeatist attitude is a joke. When you jump off the bandwagon, try not to break an ankle

You often make good arguments. Unfortunately, you lose much of your credibility when you resort to the "bandwagon" comments in your last sentence because you don't share an opinion/strategy.

burrows has worn a jaw protector that clearly hindered his puck handling ability. now that he has shed the protector, I think you will see the production come back. he is a heart and soul player that I enjoy watching and cheering for win or lose.

the twins are two of the most talented puck handlers in the game. they are strong on the boards and give their all every night. they make me proud to call myself a canuck fan.

Such gratitude for the Sedins. This thread should've been titled "Sedins, what have they done for us lately." Easier solution for you guys would be to stop watching Canucks hockey for the four years so those who support them and the team can enjoy them into retirement.

Sedins aren't going anywhere. They will retire as Canucks. Deal with it. We're in rebuild/retool mode anyway so by the time we are able to contend again they will be finished.

Classy fickle entitled fans. Sickening and disgusting! This fanbase really doesn't deserve a Cup the way WE treat our players.

Thank you for setting everyone straight. It's comforting to know God not only exists but is a Canuck fan.

I would trade all 3 sooner than later. They will only diminish in skill and value over time.

If you're going to re-build, Kesler should be the centerpiece.

Everyone else is expendable in my estimation. And don't tell me my estimation isn't worth much. I could have done as well as Gillis inheriting the bevy of underrated talent he inherited.

Until Gillis is fired, this team will continue to be lost at sea.

So are you relegating the Sedins to third line roles?

Not sure how you got that out of what he said, but...whatever.

All this nonsense about buying out the Sedins needs to stop. Lots of players have a bad year and then come right back the following year. Unfortunately with the twins, if one is slumping it really affects the other. Player on the decline don't fall off that quickly.

These guys are highly skilled pros. They will be ready for next season.

Lets give Burr a break as well. Injuries can kill a guys momentum (especially the jaw -see Gagner). He'll be up and ready for next season as well.

If I'm wrong, then it's what it is. Do people really think the owners would spend that kind of $ to buy out the twins? But I would suggest that the Sedins have way to much class and dignity to stick around in the NHL if their game was that bad.

If I'm right then everyone's a winner.

A lot of this assumes that either or both of the Sedins won't have a better year next year. I hope that Torts (if still here) realizes that what he is asking of them is part of the problem and he let's them play more of their game again (with less ice time). If so, they should do better (not back to a few years ago, but better than this year).

We're fracked. Signing Burrows as a $4.5 million dollar first line player when he's a third line player is a huge mistake we won't recover from until it's off the books. That will likely end up dragging the Sedins down as well and destroying their productivity.

We can't do anything about the past whether you agree or not with all of Gillis' moves. Starting today here's easily my biggest concern and I'm leaning on you all for hope...

What do we do and what realistically can this organization do if the Sedins and Burrows continue to produce very very little. I realize many of you may say they'll bounce back. But if not... What are our options?? (whether Gillis is or isn't the GM).

We know they're completely untradeable at 7M a year for four years (or Burr at 4.5). What do you see happening? Are we just stuck? Would we waive them? We can't amnesty anyone else anymore can we? What do we do if they're producing 20pt seasons next year?

I need hope for these next four years for our $18.5M top line that has completely dried up. I think these contracts are far more untradeable than Luongos because at least he produced.

I'm sure the Sedins will bounce back. Burrows too. They are too good of players not to. Perhaps MG needs to get serious and aquire a crafty winger for them. Kesler showed he can produce with them so I don't see why another winger similar to him, with a better offensive skill set couldn't get the job done. If only Shinkaruk was 5 years older.

Thanks for the backhanded compliment (it's a good one too, lol!) but like God, I'm afraid my words will only fall on deaf ears. Now you know why it rains in Vancouver so much!

:lol:It must be frustrating for you to witness the human condition. I'm off to build a boat...how much is a Cubit again?

If Burrows was putting up Booth numbers I think his crap season could be forgivable. But Burrows has been absolutely horrendous this season to the point of hurting the team.

Least productive player (points /60 minutes, 300+ minutes played) in the entire NHL with close to 60% offensive zone starts with first line players. Contributing to 13% of his line's offense while on the ice. When you break down his offensive totals he makes David Booth look like Mario Lemieux. Booth has been brutal by the way, just Burrows takes it to a whole new level.

I think all three can still be effective. The problem is, they are quickly approaching the stage in their careers (can argue they are there already) where they shouldn't be playing over 20 minutes a night anymore. They need to slide back to second line regular minutes and maybe for the next year or two still maintain first line power play minutes. IMO, this is how to continue to get the most out of them and let them continue to have success here and be effective.

More than that and I think they will continue to see mounting injuries and reduced performance.

Quality time vs quantity time I think is the key for them.

As that's the case, how fast can we assemble new first line ready talent?
