Mind you guys he's just only 26 years old with still lots of upside. He can very well center the second line. At least we have a second line center that can pass to his teammates and chip in goals here and there... ;)

On a cup contender he would be a very good 3rd liner. Now we really don't have to worry about shootouts anymore. We got two shootout specialists in Vrbata and Bonino.

Time will only tell. Can we at least get one damn game under our belts before we start this kind of discussion?

We need to stop thinking about what line a player is on and remember that the Benning & Desjardins way forward is not necessarily worrying about what line a player is on but rather having four balanced lines that the coach can just roll.

Jensen Sedin Hansen

Sedin Matthias Burrows

Vrbata Richardson Kassian

Higgins Bonino Vey

Just a random assembly of 4 'balanced lines'

Not sure if would work as some talented players who require other playmakers would become islands, and there are differing icetime capabilities between some linemates here, but it might be interesting to try.

if Bonino isn't ready for second line duties I think having Vey will help make up for the production.

IE instead of Bonino getting 18 mins a game and Vey 10mins a game, Bonino gets 15min Vey 13min etc. So basically they will be 3A, 3B or 2A, 2B depending on how you look at it.

As of right now, the jury is still out...but IMO, all Bonino needs is the opportunity to prove himself as he seems to have the skill set that would make a good second line centreman. He's still young enough, and is trending in the right direction, so hopefully he can stay healthy (good health is something that seems to have eluded him since becoming a pro) and prove that he can be a legit second liner in the NHL.

26 years old...coming off a break out season...looks to have a ceiling that he hasn't hit yet...decent size at 6'1" 195 lbs...good puck distributor...versatile enough to play C-LW...good wheels...good hands...three years at cap hit of $1.9M...there's a lot to like about Bonino.

When the Sedins were in their prime, we had a prime first line - if they (out of Torturella's influence) are once again legitimate first line players - then we might have a club that contend for a playoff spot, and Bonino might be able to serve as a legit second line centre for a bottom rung playoff team. Secondly, he is only 26 and might be developed into one - albeit a different style than Kesler - meaning one who actually uses his wingers - and it will matter who those wingers are. Which is to say that it is far more important to have a legitimate second line, than just a second line centre. Secondly, it depends on what kind of second line we are trying to make - will it play a style suitable to say Burrows and Higgins, Burrows and Kassian, Burrows and Jensen, Matthias and Kassian, or whatever - each of those being second lines that would have to play different styles of hockey and take on different roles. Thirdly, it is possible, though remotely so, that one of Vey, Horvat, or Gaunce outplays Bonino for the number two slot. It is also possible that one of Fox, Jensen, or Shinkaruk makes the team, and seeing as they be best as top six guys, that could affect where Bonino lines up (2c or 3c).

Thirdly, perhaps what we got from the Sedins over the last 20 games or so is all we can come to expect of them. If that is so, we are a bottom third team where Bonino might be contending for c1 (God forbid!).
