2015 NHL Draft Player-on-the-Rise: Nikita Korostelev

Recommended Posts

Hey Nucks Nation,

You may remember me from last year; I had some insight on the 2014 NHL Draft, and was a huge fan of Nikolaj Ehlers.

Too bad nobody picked up Joel Daccord. I really liked him as a goalie, quite reminiscent of Cory Schneider.

It's time to get hyped up about the 2015 Draft. Generational. So many good players.

Connor McDavid. Jack Eichel. Colin White. Mitchell Marner. Mat Barzal. Dylan Strome. Travis Konecny. Kyle Connor. Daniel Sprong. Noah Hanifin.

The list goes on forever.

Well, my "Ehlers" for this year is none of these players.
Some of you may even say I had a crazy obsession about Ehlers.

This year, I am a huge fan of a Russian-born Canadian: Nikita Korostelev.

Basically, he's a big-bodied winger who can do it all: forecheck, pass, read plays well, start plays, has magical hands, play physical... I don't know what more you could want out of a forward. He is generationally talented and can match up against the best in the CHL. He was named OHL and CHL player of the week last week, putting up 7 points in 2 games; in total he has 13 points in 9 games, as of today (10/19/14). He is outplaying his top-5-rated linemate Pavel Zacha, which just goes to show that he has a better North American style game compared to the best of the Euro-spec players.

I'm predicting the Canucks finish with a first round pick in the 10-20 range, and that's where we'll get a player like him, unless he keeps playing like he has been and rises to the top 10 range... like Ehlers did.

My favorite player and hopeful for the Canucks to draft this year is Nik......ita Korostelev.

I see JB trying to trade into the top 3,if not, selecting a DMan.

Trading into the top three is going to be very, very expensive this year, Benning is going to need compromising pictures of someone if we're going to get one of those picks without overpayment. Let's cool off a bit on speculating where we're going to pick next draft, this is still a young season and there's lot's of potential outcomes that may or may not play out for us. Can we at least wait until January before discussing our draft strategy?
