[Signing] D Christian Ehrhoff signs 1 year deal with Kings

Recommended Posts

it could have been.

"We have no interest in Christian. We wish him the best of luck."

Jim Benning to Ehrhoffs agent.

I forget whether it was Trevor or Benning who said last offseason that they had interest in Erhoff and had some discussions with his agent.

Not quite so far fetched that they had some interest this year as well. It would more likely be Erhoff's agent saying, "ya... if we are taking a deal way under market value it will be to a contender. We wish you the best of luck"

LW: Lucic >/= Daniel, Brown > Higgins, Pearson > Baertschi, King > Prust.

C: Kopitar > Henrik, Carter > Sutter, Horvat > Shore, Andreoff > Vey.

RW: Vrbata >/= Gaborik, Toffoli > Burrows, Lewis = Hansen, Dorsett >/= Nolan

D: Doughty > Edler, Muzzin >/= Hamhuis, Martinez > Tanev, Hoff > Weber, Greene = Sbisa, Bartkowski = McNabb

G: Quick > Miller

Sorry but I beg to differ. Kings are significantly better than the Canucks in almost every position and matchup. The ones we're better are not top areas and are more just a few depth positions. The ones we are (Vrbata), they're likely to be traded anyways. So yea. Have no clue how anyone can have thenCanucks at a better chance than the Kings.

In what world are Lucic and Kopitar better than Hank and Dank? Kopitar is an amazing hockey player don't get me wrong, one of the best two ways in the league, but they play a completely different style. Henrik Sedin is the greater player here. Take off the hater shades.

Hockey IQ

Henrik >> Anze

Passing

Henrik >>> kopitar, Hank is one of the best passers to ever play the sport, ever.

Shooting

Henrik 13.3% career, 17.8% last season.

Anze 12.2 career, 11.9% last season.

Scoring. (points)

Henrik .83 career points per game. 73 last season

Anze .64, 64 last season.

+/-

Henrik +214 career, +11 last season

Anze +45 career, -2 last season.

Henrik is a lock for the Hall of Fame, Anze is not. That being said I'd rather Anze out protecting a 2-1 lead with a minute left

I hope I don't have to go into detail of why Daniel is better than Lucic... And yes, I know you're only rebuttal will be

"Anze 2 cups, Henrik 0"

Cups are won by teams. Not one or two players, as the Bruins proved in 2011.

$1.5 million?? Thats brutal for us we could of got him. He was the one dman who hade GREAT chemistry or whatever with the Sedins with the brakeout pass. We could of ofered him that pr $1.6 yet benning failed to do it. Hes the same as weber for money yet is obvious way better. Benning has to be fired this is beyond crazy

I think you're missing quite a bit of information here. If it was as simple as money, then you MAY be right (assuming he even wants to play on the Canucks). However, just like other free agents, there is always more to it.

First, remember that Ehrhoff already got his payday in Buffalo, so money is not an issue at this point. But getting his career back on track is; hence the one year deal.

Second, knowing this, is it best to sign a one year deal with a team like Canucks, Leafs, Oilers, Coyotes, Hurricanes, Panthers, or Devils? Or, is it best for him to sign with a team that has won two Stanley Cups in the last 4 years and who is looking to get their team back on track? Should the Kings bounce back (likely), a team will likely sign Ehrhoff to a longer term than one year.

Bartowski makes more than Weber and Ehrhoff...

:picard:

I'm aware.

I was highlighting that because of the exact same amount.

At least Bartowski can be considered a regular not some fringe #7.

Brutal regardless of how you look at it though.

I think the Kings have way more potential for a deep playoff run, but it's also risky considering whatever is going on over there, last year it was a barrier to them making the playoffs. And it's a 1-year contract, not a long-term investment, so the "decline vs. upswing" debate is kind of moot.

The "barrier" was too many games in too short of time, with no recuperation period.

For example, since the lockout ended, Drew Doughty has played 6,900 minutes of NHL hockey, plus 6 Olympic games, with only 2 short summers in between to rest and put on strength. In comparison, Alex Edler has played less than 4,600 minutes in the same time frame (plus 6 International games), and had much more time between seasons to prepare. Anyone who thinks that kind of wear and tear didn't damper L.A.'s ability to perform last season is a fool.

Make no mistake - the Kings are going to come back much healthier and stronger next season. They're my pick to come out of the West.

Don't kid yourself now... The Kings are over rated. Canucks are still better than them.

Last season the Kings were 3-1-1 against us, scoring 14 goals and allowing 8.

They outshot us by a cumulative total of 25. PP opportunities were near equal (14 for them, 13 for us).

Sure, that could be one of the barriers.

And so could a $&!#ty locker room.

In a story brought to light by the New York Post‘s Larry Brooks and confirmed by Kings GM Dean Lombardi, the Kings locked Sutter out of the dressing room in Tampa Bay in February, hoping to prevent the coach from ranting at them.

Since then:

- Los Angeles Kings centre Jarret Stoll pleaded guilty to two reduced misdemeanor charges to resolve a felony cocaine case stemming from his April arrest at a Las Vegas Strip swimming pool.

The Kings had been attempting to trade Richards prior to getting word of the investigation Friday during the first round of the NHL Draft. They immediately broke off trade talks and placed Richards on unconditional waivers Sunday in an apparent attempt to buy out the remaining five years and $22 million of his contract.

The team announced Monday it had terminated Richards' deal, citing a "material breach" of the standard player's contract.

A buyout versus a contract termination is a distinction likely to be a source of contention by the NHL Players' Association. The NHLPA said Monday that it is looking into the situation to determine how to move forward.

The NHL Players' Association has filed a grievance on behalf of Mike Richards against the Los Angeles Kings, contesting the termination of his contract.

Voynov, sentenced to serve 90 days at a prison of his choosing, was accused of punching his wife during a Halloween party and later kicking and choking her at their Redondo Beach, Calif., home.

Oh, and they added this guy, who may or may not have a bit of an ego:

A few minutes later, when officers arrived at Lucic’s apartment on nearby Fleet Street, he was “highly intoxicated and hostile,’’ according to the police report. “We had an argument. We’re fine. Why are you here at my house?’’ he asked officers. Questioned further about the altercation on Commercial Street, the report says, he slammed his cellphone on the ground and yelled, “Do you know who I am?’’

The video starts with Lucic and another man pushing each other and they continue to yell obscenities at each other.

So yeah. There's a lot of drama surrounding the Kings. They could shake it it off and go for a deep playoff run, or it could really affect their play and they could be a borderline playoff/first round exit team.

I'm not saying anything with absoluteness, I'm just saying that L.A. is no "lock" to be near the SCF because of everything that is going on. I don't think it's that ridiculous.
