You’re probably looking at the very minimum of Juolevi, Demko, Goldobin, Gaudette, a 1st and a 2nd and even then I don’t think that gets done.

What rebuilding team would give up that type of youth for Karlsson?  I think he’s great too, but I don’t see any team making a trade like that.  Does that Karlsson walks out of Ottawa in 2019 as a UFA?

I am more interested in taking a stab at OEL in FA next season. Or hopefully get a top 10 pick and get a top D-man in this draft. Karlsson is a god, but with the Canadian taxes he's definitely gonna be asking for 10+mil to play in Canada.

I agree, i'd rather wait for OEL or hope we land Dahlin at the draft than give up assets.

OEL is basically like Karlsson without the massive ego. he had 12 goals 39 points last season and 18 in 33 games this year on a very bad team.

I think they have already decided that Karlsson will be traded, internally. The Sens M.O is to trade off people who are up for the huge contract for years of control at manageable cap hits to remain competitive. Seen it before. They'll do it again and again. There is no way anyone on the Sens will get a 10 mil plus cap hit. Not with the budget they have.

Karlsson had 71 points last year. He had 82 points the year before. This has been considered a down year for Karlsson so far and he has 18 points in 23 games. He is the reason Ottawa has any hope of making the playoffs in any given year. So no OEL is not basically Karlsson.

That said I agree we shouldn't be giving up assets for Karlsson. Patience with the rebuild will give the Canucks a roster full of talent and depth to compete for a cup.

Sadly I have a hunch that Dahlin is going to the Oilers. They are due for a 1st overall and the hockey gods have a way of crushing the Canucks hopes and dreams

They aren't due for it, IMO...but they'll likely get it.

I was thinking Toronto as well.  They could offer up a very good package, but I'm no sure if they would have the cap space to sign him.

Nylander, Kapanen, Liljegren and a 1st

If Toronto offered that Ottawa should take it and run.  Thats an enormous package.  (Thats what she said)

I think this guy is as good as it gets.  We will absolutely be able to use a stud like him on our blueline in a couple of years.  Toronto is in a position to offer as much young talent as necessary though, whereas the few high end guys we do hve on our roster or prospect system we need.  Unfortunately, we just wouldn't be in contention for his services.

That is a a lot.  If we knew he would resign it could be palatable.  But I'm not sure i'd be thrilled to see that much of our future walk out the door.

Is there a rule that says only a rebuilding team can trade for Karlsson?

And yes. The Sens Management is unbelievably cheap, I hope he walks out in fact.

I agree.  I don't think we should trade our youth for him.  Love to have him here though.

I was listening to 1040 and they were saying the Senators have asked Karlsson to give them his no trade list.  Obviously that doesn't mean they are going to trade him, but they are obviously open to the idea.  Initially I figured there is no way the Canucks could put together a package to get him.  But maybe we could scrounge up enough talent to make Ottawa think about it.  Should the Canucks go after someone like Karlsson or just wait for free agency in 2019?

To Ottawa:  Baertschi, Demko, 2018 1st (lottery protected), Gudbranson.

To Vancouver:  Karlsson + extension.

We are going to lose Gudbranson anyway.  He replaces Methot who Ottawa really didn't want to lose this summer.  Demko is top Goalie prospect.  Its obvious they need to think about moving on from Anderson.  Baertschi is a top 6 winger who is a similar age to their current young talent.

Is this too much for the Canucks to give up?  I think this would be a package Ottawa would have to consider.

At this point Demko isn't going anywhere

Ottawa would be demanding at least.... Tanev plus one of Boeser or Petttersson and a draft pick.

That being said we can not afford that type of ransom nor do i think it would be worth it as the sky is the limit for Boeser and Pettersson,  Karlsson is the exact type of defense man we need but we are better off just staying the course drafting our own super stars IMO.

Interesting to ponder though..

I think they'd be asking more..... Maybe if the draft pick wasn't lottery protected and was looking like it would be a very high pick that would get it done but.....

Your right.  If they are asking more it is something we should stay away from for sure.  We do not have the stockpile of grade A prospects to give away.  I do think Ottawa will trade him this summer though (as long as they keep sucking).  Someone will pay a kings ransom for him.
