  1. I was referring to the people from his last contract negotiation crapping all over him (go back and read the old topics if you need a refresher). It was embarrassing as a fan of this team. You're still wrong about him not being a leader.
  2. I think you're confusing contract negotiations with his willingness to play for the Canucks. Petey has demonstrated on the ice that he is committed to the team. I couldn't care less what he says in an interview. He should absolutely not be stripped of his A, unless you want him to pack up and go and be even further back in building this team. Last time he went through contract negotiations I remember people on this board crapping all over him like he was some entitled, expendable guy we should just let walk. Give your head a shake. He's going to get paid, and he will earn every penny.
  3. Typically I see whole life insurance in private companies, for business owners that have already maxed out their RRSPs and TFSAs, and are looking for another tax-deferred way to invest their money. You can invest your after tax corporate money in a whole life policy, and don't pay any tax unless you withdraw the cash value before death. I think it's a lot more complicated than the guy in the article makes it seem (he hasn't considered tax at all, which for high income earners can be upwards of 50% these days). Chances are, unless you're in this high earning business owner demographic, you probably don't need a whole life plan. Your insurance broker should be able to explain the pros/cons of both options, and if it seems like they're just trying to push you towards whole life because they get a higher commission, without considering your personal situation, find a new broker.
  4. Petey has proven he can, he didn't lose a step in the bubble playoffs and dealt with the additional punishment quite well for a new guy. Hughes played well too, but you could tell all of the extra attention he was getting was starting to wear him down as things went on. That said, I think it was Hughes' first season, so he faired pretty well all things considered.
  5. This is a terrible take. Your obvious hate for Edmonton is clouding your judgement. AP was obviously pissed off because Edmonton was all over him all game, and he probably didn't like the hit from Kane earlier. He skated across the ice to two-hand LD, raising the stick over his head in doing it, and coming down right near the hands. LD probably lucked out and took it on the elbow pads, but it could have been season ending for LD if it missed the padding. That's about as dirty as they come. AP should be suspended, no question. I would argue for the rest of the series to send a message that this crap won't be tolerated.
  6. Disgusting. Can't think of any other words. I have much harsher things to add, but I don't think they would be received well.
  7. I don't understand why 1/2 the people here are clamoring for a full rebuild. We have a solid core in Pettersson, Hughes and Demko, why would you go full scorched earth rebuild at this point? The Canucks need to build a better surrounding cast around those guys, and our biggest need is, and has been, defense. I'm not super familiar with the player, but it seems like we traded a centre that we most likely weren't resigning, for a first liner picks and prospects, and now we flipped that pick for high quality defense. What's not to like? It doesn't sound like they are done either...
  8. Seems like a matter to be decided between him, his coach, and the team. If they are okay with it, then why is this even a story? Like everyone is saying, he's not coming out and speaking against the LBGTQ community. I'd be more concerned with the fact that he refused to warm up with his team, regardless of what colour his jersey is, but since his coach and team are okay with it then there's no reason why anyone else should be bothered. Overblown story designed to elicit an overblown response, as is the norm these days. This has to stop.
  9. Rather they shorten the regular season and start playoffs sooner. With more teams getting added to the league, don't be surprised if another round gets added at some point.
  10. Nothing to see here. Pretty much your boilerplate NHL player response to that question.
  11. The funny thing is we have so many of the pieces we've been missing for years. We finally have 2-3 lines of centres and scoring wingers, so we're not just a 1 line team. We finally have a top tier defenseman in Quinn Hughes, that can QB the powerplay. We have another great goalie in Demko. The problem this time is that our supporting cast has not been up to expectations. We're missing that solid defensively minded defenseman, which is something we had in Tanev but let walk. We're missing those specialty bottom 6 forwards that can reliably kill penalties, which we've had in the past in guys like Motte and Beagle. These supporting guys should be easier to find and fill the holes than blowing up the entire core, which for once actually looks pretty complete. So to answer your question, I don't believe a blow up is necessary. Find the right supporting players, do it fast before our core ages out, and I think we could surprise people.
  12. I'd be alright if we could get someone to stop goals going in. We have enough guys that can play offensive D.
  13. OPTION C: The collective meltdown of the fickle fans on CDC
  14. It's certainly not as bad as some are making it out to be. Same thing happens every year when players or the team goes through a bad stretch. Let's not forget, this is almost entirely the same team (with more firepower up front) that went 32-15-10 with BB coaching last year. The sky is not falling as some would have you believe.
  15. Can he please just play one game... pretty please. That guy had so much heart as a player, some of our current guys should take note.
