  1. I totally agree with Hairy. With a bridge deal of 3 x 7.5 they then have three years at a good salary to show the Canucks (or league) that they might deserve even more down the road. If they don't produce then the Canucks are saved the agony of a long term contract they can't get out of for an overpaid player.
  2. Get something done (fish or cut bait for both sides) before training camp starts. We don't need players sitting out and then not being ready when the season starts.
  3. And, part of that offensive power house is getting a power play that is dominant.
  4. I have never thought that Hughes was a defenseman He is a forward playing in a defensive position. Makar can play at both ends of the ice. Hughes is not worth the same money that Makar has just signed for. I would seriously consider a trade like that. Maybe add a draft pick to sweeten the pot.
  5. Miraculous wishful thinking, Eriksson. Hoping Holtby. Realistically, Lind.
  6. How many players can a team buy out each season?
  7. What do the Canucks do if Jake doesn't get cleared? Hope he does but just thinking out loud.
  8. Please send the money my way. I will find a good way to make it last for the rest of my life. When these players get big bucks they think they can make even more with 'risky' investments. NHL and lesser pro leagues need to offer financial planning, insurance, etc to up and coming players. COVID hurt everyone regardless of the income they had guaranteed (athletes, etc). Look at the poor people across the country that have lost their whole life's work because of shut downs.
  9. I agree on the Schmidt comments. Not that good! We need to stop taking other teams' castoffs and ask ourselves, why aren't they resigning him? We end up with guys on big and too lengthy contracts with no trade clauses. Let's go with the youth and see what happens. Happy golfing everyone!
  10. 100% agreement on Edler's decline on the Canucks. So difficult watching the Canucks try and play out the rest of the season. With all their issues and injuries they are putting up a good fight. Let's get the season over, get healthy, regroup, get rid of the deadwood (players and coaches), hope for the best in the draft, let our kids playout the season and look forward to next season.
  11. Totally agree with most of the comments here about fatigue, lousy schedule, injuries, etc. However, I also agree that this team lacks that wolfpack-warrior cohesiveness. Say what you want about guys like Wilson in Washington (I don't care for him) but opposing players skate with their heads up and take a split second longer to make a pass when he is in their area. When we had guys like Burrows and Lapierre on the team they would always lay it on the line for their teammates. Do we have any players on the current roster who would do this?
  12. Agree with your draft ideas of defensemen, centres and perhaps a goalkeeper. Also, I agree that some of the special assistant coaches need to be changed up with a new perspective. Our powerplay is totally hit and miss and very predictable to defend.
  13. Totally agree with the idea of giving them 3 games to see where they are. If they take 5/6 points then carry on a few games at a time. If they are sub 500 in the first half dozen games start playing the young kids to see what they offer for the future. And, sit some of the vets. Hard to trade or deal with seriously injured players come draft/trade time.
  14. Who would you replace Benning with? Who is out there? What about Green? Same question.
  15. Eichel is not McDavid, Crosby or MacKinnon. I would never make this trade. I do agree that we need to find an elite defenseman to play with Hughes. Tanev like in being responsible in his own end but still with some offensive capabilities. Also, someone with some grit to be able to stand up for Hughes and his teammates.
  16. Totally agree. Montreal already let him walk and why would they bring him back if they too are in sight of missing the playoffs. I don't think Edler will get that return. He is old, slow and injury prone.
  17. I would even consider getting Myers out of there. Let him go to Seattle. What's your thoughts on the goalkeepers?
  18. Totally agree. Look at the other end of the ice. Seldom can our defense knock any opposing players on their butts. They end up having a tailgate party in front of Demko ending it off with a goal. No muscle. I think guys like Edler and Myers are afraid of getting hurt and ending their seasons. Hughes can get outmuscled by a 16 year old Jr player everytime. No one at either end is an intimidating force.
  19. I would say we need at least 65 points to get into the playoffs. We have to hope that other teams win their other games outright and don't end up being 3 point games. That is killing us right now.
  20. I love your idea for the Petey line. First guy to manhandle him gets a face full of MacEwen. Love it. Time to add some grit to this line up of weaklings.
  21. So true. Why are the Canucks not using their young guns and giving them some playing experience. This team is not going anywhere this season. I just don't get it. Sit Benn, Myers or even Edler for a game and let OJ play. At least he has some speed to get back into his own end. When Benn pinches and fails he is done. Might as well skate to the bench and let the next guy jump on. Time to see what the potential future holds for this team. If they don't pan out then you can trade them, cut them or send them down.
  22. Too bad we didn't start Holtby with the team playing peewee hockey in front of their own net. Without Demko the Habs could have been in double digits with the elite scoring chances they had all night. Demko's numbers get inflated because of the poor play in front of him. Question: What is with the Canuck players not having the ability to shoot the puck out of their own end of the ice? It is as if their sticks are made from limp spaghetti. Numerous times the Canuck players had the chance to clear the puck only to put it on the sticks of the Hab players waiting at the blueline. And Miller, again he looks lost at times out there. Passing the puck directly to the opposition and making bonehead decisions, turning back into his own zone when he is a foot from his blueline. Even peewee players know how to dump the puck out over their lines when pressured. Finally, maybe Benning should sign some players who can actually skate with the puck and with some speed. It seemed like every Hab could out skate even our few quick players. We have too many cruisers and slugs on the ice.
  23. Totally agree. And, the last place you want to be if you are begging to be left alone is on National tv (Oprah). Before you consider getting married you should always check out who the in-laws are going to be (lol).
