I don't know that I'd celebrate bests in this ... for those down there, it was pretty terrifying.  My young nephew got stuck down there...phoned me, looking for his Dad.  Said people were throwing broken glass like frisbees.  The people who participated were absolute morons and criminals who brought so much shame and trauma to our city.

We're better than this but somehow will always be judged by the actions of some brainless wannabes who earned their fame for all the wrong reasons.

I try to only think about this OTHER sporting event that took place in Vancouver in 2011....

I travelled from the interior for Game 5 downtown, glad it wasn't game 7 I went to.

  2. Lot's of French emersion options in public school from Kindergarten on these days. I didn't put my kid in it because I figure 5 year olds have enough to worry about without being completely thrown in the deep end language-wise. Although, "they" say that kids are incredible quick to pick up new languages around that age. I'm going to let my kids decide which languages are more interesting/applicable to their lives when they get older. My 5 year old already has a grasp on Spanish through family and dora the explorer and she picks up French as well on her own. Like Gnarcore and others, I had French class up to Grade 11, never took it seriously and at one point made my French teacher cry by being little $&!#. I can speak, write and read it well enough, listening to the gibberish is something else though. You can learn all the French you'll ever need on the back of hockey cards and cereal boxes haha
  3. Don't antagonize or provoke. Just hit. Hard, fast and enough times to keep 'em down.

That's how people will know you don't &^@# around. It will become a calling card, a signature, a place to hang your hat.

  4. Quebec! It's the best country in the world!
  5. Well don't go waiving your High School Equivilency Diploma in everyone's face now. Kesler lands way way way closer to Jeff Brown than Pavel Bure on the all time Canucks list. Brown and Kesler might even be numbers 1 & 2 in a few categories. Honestly though, I'm going to miss the look on Kesler's face every time he comes in 2nd place lol
  6. Legendary douche bag. Character matters. Even more so when your career is over. Look at Messier's legacy. Same fate awaits Marchand.
  7. Reality is that the NHL has been trending towards "Sports Entertainment" and away from organic competition for 20 years. Everything is "managed", the important games, the draft lotto, everything. There are still sweet moments of organic hockey purity but they are fewer and further between. The players themselves of course are still the best in the world but the Leage itself is becoming more WWE every year. That's why it is so important to fans of the game that NHL payers go to the Olympics. Best on Best, pure competition, (somewhat) free from Darth Bettman's meddling hands.
  8. My Mom said boys have penises and girls have vaginas.
  9. No he isn't. Did you mean 0.87 ppg player who jumped the shark 4 years ago and is on the backside of his career?
  10. Hell. No. He was way overrated for awhile there and got paid. 87point Art Ross Winner thbbbbpppppp
  11. Same thing happened in Quebec a few years back. Busy family w 3 kids. Busy morning. Miscommunication between parents. Dead kid in a hot car.
  12. Disturbing. If I did that to my kid and it was an accident, I'd probably just off myself. Just tragic.
  13. Foreigners using Canada's own half assed laws against it. Same thing going on with immigration. What else is new? It took them how long to figure this out? I feel really badly for any BC Citizens who have been unable to afford a home due to this debacle. Goes to show that only suckers play by the letter of the law in Canada. To get ahead, you need to lie, cheat or steal. Or become part of the government, in which case you will lie, cheat and steal.
  14. Everything. Now I am triggered. Nuxfan, you should know we are all a bit unbalanced at this point in the season.
  15. I am Bhagwan

  16. Bye, Felicia is a dismissive term which can be used in a number of different contexts. Most simply and frequently, it is used as a cold way to bid someone a less-than-fond farewell.
  17. Pros : He used score a lot of points Cons: Old, injured, massive contract will kill his motivation, soft Swede D Man, basically over rated and will get over paid and then most likely begin his decline. In other words, a typical Canucks FA signing
