    am i missing something? is huggy a terrible scorer that he never get used in shootouts?

      By far, forwards are used in shootouts: https://www.hockey-reference.com/leagues/NHL_2022_skaters-shootout.html I guess you need the stickhandling and short-range shooting skills.

      Maybe... But yes being so smooth with the puck, one would assume he should have a go.

      Guess the coaches sees during practice.

      He's had a couple of shootout attempts in his career, but unfortunately no goals.

       

      Vinny mentioned it, Hughes' shot and deking skills (on goalies at least) aren't exceptional compared to some of the other forwards the Canucks have. He also uses a relatively long stick for someone his size, which makes going side to side on the goalie a bit more difficult.

       

      None of this is a knock on Hughes of course, the Canucks don't really need him to be a shootout specialist.
