How can we sleep while the Hope and Manning Park is burning?
(Apologies to Midnight Oil)

@-DLC-The one that really ticks me off are those in the vehicles that flicks their cigarette butts strongly enough that it could reach the dried grass beside the road. Just use an ashtray, no?

Any relatively expensive burgers in the lower mainland that are actually worth the price?

Ever come across symptoms for a terrible medical condition - then realize you seemingly have all of them?
-
@FanuckThe first thing I'd like to say is that you have any concerns whatsoever, please schedule a visit with your family doctor. You owe that to yourself and to your loved ones. That said, my beloved wife is one of those people who like to research all possible medical conditions every time she feels she has a weird symptom and almost all of the time (thank God), the worst conditions in her list of potential conditions end up not being the cause. Sometimes, the doctor does end up letting her take tests (e.g., blood tests, urinalysis) to rule out those conditions. The improvement in her overall well-being improves dramatically once she gets empirical confirmation that those conditions aren't the cause.

Self care day ideas?
I'm thinking ice skating, enjoying the beach or the forest, baking, or taking a day trip to Spokane or Juneau.
Any ideas?

So, if the current world view is to remove/take down statues of people that were involved with slavery, why is it that the pyramids in Egypt are not being destroyed? Afterall, the Egyptians used slaves to build them!
-
@Hereticwhy stop at slavery? Let's go after tribes/groups that invaded/occupied another tribe/group's land/watering hole/etc,. If we do that, we're going to end up cancelling probably all of the past larger cultures. So now let's give those cultures a vote and see them cancel us for wasting limited resources (the amount of water wasted by people in North America is insane), not doing enough to take care of people belonging to our tribe, animal cruelty, etc.

In the past month, I've heard about shortage of lifeguards, home doctors, nurses, airport workers, programmers, dishwashers, security guards. Where did all the workers go?
-
@Ghostsof1915 So is the issue then that new jobs got created or that the old workers have left the city due to lack of affordable housing or both perhaps? It just seemed that pre-pandemic, this wasn't as big an issue compared to right now...

sens gonna make the playoffs if they can add one more D.

Well. well. well...I never thought I'd see the day. Especially when a thread about a dick-shaped dessert is acceptable.... whereas a coup attempt here in North America, just below our Southern border and the despot who led it have been a discussion thread for at least 7 years, is not....Unbelievable.

nj has a lot of rd prospects. it would be great to get a couple.
mukhamadullin and a 6'5" swedish d-man.

Be careful what you wish for, folks. This reminds me of the 'OMG VILARDI GLASS" chant. Miller leaving would be NOTHING to celebrate...ripping the heart out of the team and leaving a gaping wound. But sure, let's party.

Yeah, we seem to be one of the few here about being sad if JT leaves. I keep thinking that if any of our other forwards (Petey included) put up the numbers that JT put up in the past 3 years let alone last year, we'd be building them a statue outside of the arena. He's not only good on offense, but he does PK (much more than Bo), and is actually decent on faceoffs. But of course, if his ask is 10M AAV on an 8-year term, then that makes it hard...

What would be your top 5 of a 2017 re-draft?

who do you take C. Geekie or Kasper if they're both on the table at 15? I would go with the latter

I think this is either clickbait. Over-analyzing a prospect. Or NJ or Arizona trying to get Wright by trying to lower his stock.

@AlflivesYou should be a scout! Amount of facial hair at a young age... Check!

top shelf hockey says that insiders are reporting van and pittsburgh discussing JT miller. he said JR was saying before marino had to be part of the deal. named some others too.
-
The proposals above for one of the most productive forwards this past season seems underwhelming. Does Pittsburgh not have any decent prospects in their system? I would have thought that JR would have done a better job over there? If the main piece is only going to be Marino, then we'd better be able to do a significant cap dump - e.g., Tyler Myers or Dickinson.

Row v Wade has officially been overturned

@DazzleOh absolutely, we are all influenced by our background and our own experiences, and as I mentioned above, I'm definitely only sharing the pro-life view because as I said, I believe there are stereotypes out there that do a disservice to my pro-life women friends. I am by no means vilifying those who are pro-choice. I'm actually in agreement (or at least sympathetic) with a lot of things you mention - most countries will allow for abortion in the case of: rape, incest, fetal health, risk to mother's life. Imo, that one is an easy ethical decision. Personally, I wish that the current debate is centered more on the holistic view of the health both mother and child that goes beyond the pregnancy and birth. That will give the discussion a greater chance of moving forward because there will be a greater focus on coming up with pragmatic action items. I find that my pro-life women friends are concerned about a lot of the things that my pro-choice friends are concerned about: reasons why a woman would consider terminating a pregnancy (the ones I mentioned above are easy, but others [e.g., career] are harder); having a safe abortion; reality that the woman will bear most of the burden of having a child not just during pregnancy but afterwards; can the mother take are of the baby; lifelong impact (both positive and negative ["challenging" is probably the word they will use] of having a baby on the mother's life; how easy it is for men to just relinquish themselves of responsibility; how there's no impact on the man's body but there's huge impact on the woman's body; abortion pressures from cultures that prioritize males over females; lack of adoption services; lack of enough services to be able to raise a child (e.g., education, daycare, etc.); contraception; sex education; sexualization of women; maternity leave; fertility services; career advancement for somebody who has the burden (some of my friends will scold me for using that term) of also raising kids; post-partum depression; pressure to have children; at which term will the baby (fetus) feel pain; etc. Unfortunately (imho), the discussion is almost always being framed from the context of rights, and I find that to be often contentious because the first statement that comes out of everybody's mouth is "well, it's my right to...". A right is binary: either you have the right or you don't. Rights can sometimes infringe - freedom of expression is a good example of that.

@Dazzle I just want to clarify that I'm not trying to win an argument here - I just want to present the views of people like my wife who is against abortion. Here's another way she just put it to me: "when I hear of an abortion happening, I feel sad because I believe somebody died."
