with the present players, what would be your best 3 scoring lines, line up?
-
i know it would never happen, but i wish team salaries reflected the team game aspect of hockey.
goal scorers are important and those who get them the puck, but those that allow those players to play their game are important too.
i’ve always had a soft spot for those heart and soul guys that keep other stars from scoring on their teams.

My favorite Canucks are Pederson and Boser.
-
Pederson only scored 8 goals in 102 games with the Canucks. He was only 23 at the time of the trade and a 13th overall pick so I thought he might have potential. In the WHL with the Prince Albert Raiders he scored 53 goals 98 points in his +1 draft year to go along with 157 PIM. The leading scorer that season was a player named Van Burgess who went on to play one year at the University of Saskatchewan before turning pro. He played for teams such as the El Paso Buzzards, Hamburg Crocodiles, and Lexington Men O'War.
Back to Pederson. After his stint with the Canucks he went on to play only 62 more NHL games before enjoying a successful nine year career with the Berlin Polar Bears where he was a teammate of CDC member Rob Zepp.

I wonder who's going to get Dzingle for cheap? surprised he's still available.
-
Mich Marner would be a very good pick up for Canucks! But what does the maple leafs want in return? We can start with Virtanen, Tanev ....??? Man Canucks don’t have much assets to make the deal! JB if you can pull a bunny out of your @$$. You’d be the greatest magician of all! Get ur done JB
GO Canucks GO!!!!

Rumours that the Canucks might try and move up in the draft to six place with Detroit moving down to tenth place! Detroit May be looking to draft a goalie and may be confidant that the top goalie will still be there at tenth place. The question is, who is the Canucks targeting at sixth place? Get ur done JB
GO Canucks GO!!!!

I agree 100% @Alflives . JB has not done a great job acquiring picks, moving up in drafts, or stockpiling prospects in trades.
The few times he did acquire picks/prospects he kind of blew it. We got a second for Jason Garrison then he flips the pick for Vey. We trade Burrows for a good prospect in Dahlen and flip him for a C prospect in Karlsson. 1st round pick for Kesler, trades for Gudbranson. 2nd round pick for Bieksa, trades in Sutter deal etc.I'd much rather move down 3-5 spots than up. At 13-15 one of Broberg, Soderstrom, or Seider should still be available. That could land us an extra 3rd and maybe another later round pick.

Toronto's team won and I'm happy for them. I feel dirty.

I didn't understand a single call in that last minute-turned-half-hour, but CONGRATS RAPTORS

Let's go Golden State! We the Cascadia!

Vancouver is the most "un-Canadian" city in Canada. Raptors fans aren't "proud Torontonians" but "proud Canadians". The national pride (not Toronto pride) is up there with Canada in the olympics. When it comes to basketball Toronto is the awkward stepchild of the NBA and viewed as Canada's team, the fact they are in Toronto is almost irrelevant. After living in Toronto the weird hatred Vancouver has for the city is embarrassing. Other cities like Winnipeg, Ottawa, Montreal don't seem to have this sickly obsession with hating Toronto.
There is absolutely no rivalry whatsoever between the two cities, Vancouver just acts like a jealous child. Imagine if Halifax hated Vancouver because they were the more popular coastal city. Everybody I have talked to from Toronto loves Vancouver and are very confused with Vancouver's obsession with hating them.
I've worked with people across the country and Canadian pride is coming out through the Raptors everywhere but Vancouver. This finals means a lot for our country (26 years since a Canadian team has won a professional title) and it is great to see everyone else embracing "We the North". It isn't' "We the Toronto".

If you're Edmonton, do you do Puljujarvi for Callahan? Do you do it if you're Tampa?
-
did i just read between the lines? in their scouts meeting, JB asked the scouts about the shaw kid. couldn’t find a shaw in the draft, but in the montreal write up, they said montreal was going all out to move up in the draft. 15 to 10, i wonder.?
-
@Type R no way Montreal moves Shaw to go up 5 spots. Even if we had Virtanen going the other way they wouldn't do it. Maybe 10th + Virtanen + 2nd round pick for 15th + Shaw

Today seems like as good a day as any to drown my sorrows in alcohol. Cheers, mates.

Watching this beauty Tryamkin montage, makes me wonder if we could trade out Guddy, and bring Groot back. Much more imposing hitter!

SOB on 650 radio re Pettersson. When he talks to hockey guys, they bring up "that Swedish kid" right away. Hockey world's buzzing.
-
From what I've heard about SOB is that he is one of the best dudes you will ever meet.
In Vancouver he was a young, handsome, professional hockey player who was not married, no kids, and made over a million per year. Can you blame him for wanting to go out and enjoy himself? I am not going to name names but I've heard much worse things about other players who did have a wife & kids at home.
As for paying the price, he is an 8th round pick who played over 500 NHL games. In today's dollars he earned over 11 million dollars in the NHL (plus 5 years in the AHL and 3 in Europe). That is just slightly below average. Plus he will receive a pension starting at 45, so he is very set.

Utica loses 10-1 to Syracuse. Demko 6 goals against after replacing Kulbakov who was pulled after 4.

Really hope we sign some good ufas this summer (Defence-man and a winger), I feel like this team could do more then compete for a playoff spot next year. (depends who our goalie is though)

Ideally we move Edler at the deadline for a similar return as what Sekera got. I broke down their numbers at all angles and Edler should be more valuable. Sekera got a 23rd overall pick and a solid prospect (McKeown).
Del Zotto is a solid pickup. Probably comes in as a 6/7 guy but can play the big minutes (he was #1 in minutes during his stretch in Philly and played quite a bit last year). Perhaps a 3rd round pick?
The Comets are probably not going to make the playoffs. This will give Juolevi an opportunity to close out the year in the NHL and give Saunter a "thank you for your service" call-up or even Brisebois a look. On top of that, Hughes might be able to hop on for 9 games.
Come the draft picks are at a premium. If we can then trade those deadline picks and package them with a player we could perhaps pickup another solid piece and make a bit of a splash as we host the draft. Build excitement around the new era. Or just keep them.

Who hates the Leafs more?

It looks like the Devils only got 3 good years out of Schneider. That trade is looking better every day.

i'ld like rob zepp or someone who has made it to the nhl to write a blog on the sacrifices and effort it takes, for a player to make it to the nhl?
for all the posters that call some players useless nhl'ers and plugs.

Here is a good example of just how hard it is to make the NHL.
A friend of mine played "Division 1" in Sweden. This is a lead below Allsveksen, which is the league below the SHL. So lets just say a long way from the NHL (this is the league Edler was scouted out of).
Started skating at 3. Grew to 6'4. Played in the top rep leagues growing up alongside Tavares, Stamkos, and Hodgson. Plays AAA Junior and is on his team's top line with Reilly Smith. Makes it to the NCAA and soon finds out that he is no longer considered a scorer at this skill level and struggles to get into the lineup. Eventually becomes an effective checker and becomes team captain. Doesn't get any pro contract in North America and goes to Sweden.
So he went from being a linemate of a near PPG in the NHL (last year) as an 18 year old to playing in the 3rd best league in Sweden as a 23 year old. There isn't much separating the top players in the world to the guys making $700 per week in 3rd division pro leagues. He is also a skinny dude (around 180lbs) who had to bulk up to 220lb during his playing days.

I know an ex-Canuck. You need exceptional natural ability, an insane amount of passion, and the drive to work hard and make sacrifices. Now this guy didn't have a very long career but he talked about how much playing in the minors sucks, how insanely cut-throat being an athlete is, and the intense pressure to do things you don't want to do to stick around (IE fight). Another guy in my office who played for Chicago and New Jersey also decided to leave hockey because he didn't feel like fighting anymore.
Going to a normal white collar job in comparison is a cake walk. I am a bigger guy (6'2 230lbs). Imagine due to my size I was expected to come into the office and fight the toughest guy in the room in front of everybody on national television. And if I wasn't able to win these fights I'd get a 90% cut in pay and work for some crappy small town company in a rust belt city of 60,000.
On the flip side I know smaller guys who had good college careers but toiled in the minors. I've received comments like "if I was your size I might have made it to the NHL". The thing is this little guy in particular is far more gifted as an athlete than I am. A lot of stars need to align in order to make it. My size, his skill, parents who will throw you on skates at 3 years old, passion for the game, hard work, and a little luck & opportunity thrown in will open up the door. Then you gotta still beat the odds for one or two spots against 30 or 40 other guys who are also amongst the world's best.
