  1. Nobody is swooning. Look at the prospect, where they were drafted and see if the current situation is a good one for their development. The fact that a coach sees him as a powerplay leader at 18 is a very good thing. The fact that he will get good minutes in a good league with men is a good thing. The definition of swoon is "faint from extreme emotion". Nobody showed anywhere near that by saying it's great that he is on the first line pp.
  2. I know but he is 18 and this is a great place for him to play. If he was a 24 year old prospect and was still in the Allsvenskan, your derision would be understandable. Hugo is in a great position to get big minutes against men.
  3. I don't get the point of this. Our 6th round pick, drafted 169th overall 18 yr old dman is playing against men and is on the first line powerplay. Evan Bouchard played in this league last year and got 17 pts in 24 games. He was 22. This is an achievement for a guy who was drafted that low. OEL had 27 pts in 42 games as an 18 yr old which is the record. I am excited to see what Gabrielsson can do.
  4. Smarter people than me can work out the details. I am just starting a discussion whereby billionaires in Canada, whose net worth has gone up 67 billion during the pandemic, find a way to use their unfathomable wealth along with government support to solve the housing crisis with minimal overall cost to both. The government spends enormous amounts on homeless, addiction, mental health, policing, etc and we have people who have benefitted greatly from our society and the infrastructure provided by taxpayers. Let's get creative
  5. I'm not talking about developers. I am saying that the government work out a deal with the richest of the rich, who BTW avoid taxes all the time, and get them to pitch in and solve the problem in a way that benefits everyone. Bill Gates and Warren Buffet have given away 100 billion plus. Canadian Billionaires could solve this problem.
  6. What if the richest people in the country build and own 1 million rental units across the country. They would pay no property taxes. They would pay no capital gains on the increased value of the land. They would write off all of the costs against their income taxes. They would collect no rent. The government would decide who would receive the units. Every year they would build another 250,000 units and after 5 years they could start charging rent or sell them to someone who could. I'm not sure this would work exactly as I have laid it out, but with billionaires and homeless in the same country, there has to be a way that both could win. People with mental health issues, addiction, and unemployment need a home. This would help solve many other societal issues as well. But what do I know?
  7. Not that long ago, Brendan Gaunce was our best prospect. Now throw in Costmar and all 11 have as good or better chance as becoming an nhl player. There are others as well Persson, Jurmo, Silovs, and more that could turn into something. I wouldn't say the cupboards are remotely close to bare.
  8. Another height and weight controversy with an overseas prospect. HockeyDB says 6'2'' and 202 lbs. Huskies have him listed as 6'1'' and 185. Elite Propects 6'1'' and 203. The Province mentioned him as 6' and 202. The Daily Hive said 6'1'' and 187. I am mostly kidding around but it is strange they can't just get the numbers straight.
  9. Alf is the biggest fan(atic) on here. He loves his team and hates all others. That is old school and the true meaning of the word fan. I love his posts!

  11. WTF is going on. This is ridiculous. I think that fans have become so obsessed with Trade Deadline, Draft, and Free Agent Frenzy, they care more about movement than they do about the team. I can't believe I have to say this but, we are so blessed to have drafted EP and QH at 5th and 7th overall, just sit back now and enjoy them. I love watching these two play and have no interest in watching them play elsewhere. They are both incredibly driven and world class talents. I would say already they are top 10 talents we have ever had, and they are in their very early 20's. After a couple of years they will be stronger, wiser and will be truly dominant players. Top 10 all time Bure Sedin Sedin Naslund Mogilny Luongo EP Hughes Bertuzzi Edler I left off Reinhart because of his short Canucks' career. I think EP and Hughes could challenge everybody above them when their careers are over.
  12. I live in the Okanagan, Covid is surging, fire is everywhere, and it has been hot as hell. It is hard to find reasons to be optimistic. I would like to thank Jim Benning for giving me 1. The moves have been bold and have literally cleared out every questionable contract and player. It is not perfect, but it is so nice to not think about overpaid guys, misbehaved guys, and not enough depth because of the overpaid, misbehaved guys. The roster is clean, balanced and filled with players I love to watch. Not to mention the new ones I expect to love. I can't wait. It is one of my few positives right now. Thanks, Jim! With regard to the forward units I think, we need to balance size, skill and age. We want playmakers on each line, we don't want a line to be too small to be pushed around, we also don't want 2 20 yr olds on a line at least to start. So here's my proposal: Miller Peterson Garland Hogs Bo Boeser Pearson Dick Podz Motte Sutter MacEwan Highmore(Bottom 6 sub) Gadjovich (top 6 sub) Hughes Hamonic OEL Myers OJ Poolman Rathbone Schenn Demko Halak
  13. Enough trying to trade the most exciting defenseman we have ever had. I like hockey, I especially like to be entertained. Quinn is almost as fun to watch as Bure was. I think he is, and will be, much better on defense than many here think. 1 in 32 teams win a Stanley cup so I'm hopeful but mostly want to enjoy watching my team. I enjoy watching Quinn more than any defenseman we've ever had. If you want to watch Subban or Ty Smith or Parayko, you can watch New Jersey or St. Louis. I am very excited about this team. Go Canucks Go!
  14. The salaries are so much better balanced now. It is a very solid lineup.
  15. Every time I have seen him in the NHL, he has looked solid and consistent. I feel badly for these guys who just don't seem to get enough of a chance to show they can play regular minutes. I hope he doesn't get forgotten.
  16. I thought OJ looked like a regular when I watched him last year. His passing seemed as good as anyone on the team. His positioning was strong. He needs a bit more of a regular shift to get accustomed to the speed of the game. I am a big fan and am thrilled that he signed such a small contract making more room to get the others signed.
  17. This is such a great story, way to go Dad and everybody who supported him. I am really hoping we see him play some games this year.
  18. I think Quinn is going to remind us this year how good he really is. We also have 4 NHL RHD already signed, plus Woo and a couple of borderline AHL guys. This would make no sense unless we sent him Myers, Poolman, or Hamonic as well.
  19. I like Lind alot. I watched him a bunch in Kelowna. I could see him making the NHL and being a regular in his career. Top end would be 2nd line winger. He is very talented but his foot speed will hold him back. I was sad to see him go but if a player like that is all we lost after all that ED (Expansion Draft, not Erectile Disfunction) anxiety, then management did a great job. JB has brought in so many AHL guys with NHL experience, there is no room for Lind, but I wish him luck!

  21. Almost 6 million over 8 years? Seems a bit rich for a shut down guy. Larsson and Tanev ar in the 4 million range. If JB did this he would be skewered by cdcers and the media. Lou does it and it's a great move.
  22. Watching him I think he is the type that will put up more points at a higher level with better players than he did at a lower level with worse players. I saw him make a lot of great plays that would be assists in the NHL but weren't in the K. Not saying 50, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he puts up 30-40.
