  1. A Motte type player with plenty of speed and hustle and can score too. It seemed like a switch went on for him last season. I'll be keeping an eye on this young man...he's got some potential. Besides, it's always great to have a BC boy from our north country joining the organization. Wouldn't surprise me if he makes the jump to the Canucks in a year or two. https://fieldpasshockey.com/what-to-expect-from-tristen-nielsen/
  2. He needs to improve his game without the puck. “With Brock, there’s another level there,” Tocchet said in a recent interview with Farhan Lalji and Harman Dayal on The Vancast. “I think if he plays a really good game without the puck, all that other stuff is going to come. “His wall work, his retrievals with pucks, helping out on the forecheck, there’s another level with him. “If Brock can add another level, he can be a force for us.”
  3. It works for him to stay in To for the 3 years and have a chance to win a cup. He'll sign his 8yr retirement contract with a South-Western team; some of them will be just coming out of their rebuilds and have the salary cap to sign him.
  4. Your right Fred, the player that has the best training camp makes the team, regardless of age. I don't see either Raty or Sasson making the team this season. It will be up to Aman and Tristen Nielson, who are better right now. In the long run, Raty will likely be the long term NHLer, but he has more development time ahead of him.
  5. I agree Clou. Both Myers and Beau are in their final contract year, which makes them more tradable. Once Myers bonus is paid off, they only have to wait until a team with cap space has a D injury or 2 and he's gone. Start Beau off alongside Pete and when he starts scoring goals, his marketplace goes up. I don't see him as a long term fit and he certainly won't be re-signed by the team. Mik is a better fit on the 1st line anyways. With Myers and Beau being UFAs, having to add a bit of retention isn't near as bad as Garland's 3yrs. It depends on what the team expectation is for this season. Imo, they might make the playoffs, but I really don't see them going beyond the 1st round and that's ok. Neither Myers or Beau will change the results. The future is reliant on the prospects coming up through the ranks, which will happen over the next 1-3 years. Garland is a decent player, but is a bit overpriced and stuck in a horrilbe NHL cap world. Nobody has the space for him and want too much retention/sweeter for the Canucks to deal him. Keeping him for another season has some possible advantages: Garland's contract only has 2yrs left; In the 24/25 season, we start to see the salary cap going up; prospects begin to make the team on elcs; and if all else fails; buyout of his 2yr contract is doable. Once the trades are completed, the team goes with... Kuze Pete Mik Pod/Hogs JT Brock Pods/Hogs Blue Garland Josh Aman Stud Dries/Pizza
  6. I agree with what you have stated in the highlighted words. I don't know the details right now, but I do know these players will never live down their actions and will always be known for it; much more than anything they achieve as hockey players.
  7. Frederic would be a huge presence on our team. Put him on JT's line and you immediately have a gritty scoring line. This would allow Tocchet to replace Beau with Mik, who adds some grit, defensive coverage, blistering speed and scoring. I think Boston wants an offer with a better prospect though. Frederic is just starting his peak years, so will likely improve on his stats over the next few years.
  8. I'm assuming that PA has already tried to trade Garland, but the trade exchange (sweetener/retention) has been too high. As I said earlier on, Garland's buyout next year might be a good option. I think the plan with Boeser is to be give a solid chance to redeem himself (and he very well might do that). I agree that Beau doesn't do much for the team if he's not playing alongside Pete and there are better options. Given his UFA status, he is the easiest of the 3 to move. Hogs is primed to move into his spot as LW at the $1.1m bargain for 2yrs.
  9. Bo is a C, so has more value because of it. He has also put up more points than Beau since his 1st season. Beau scored most of his points on Pete's line, which will be another players spot this season. He did not play well alongside Miller and would be worse on the bottom 4. Our team has too many wingers...Beau is easiest to move as he is a UFA this season. Trading Beau will include ($1m) retention and/or sweetener as well, but it is immediate cap savings of $3m. Garland still has 3yrs (which makes him more difficult to trade), but has better skills to contribute on the 2-4 lines. It's best for the team to wait another year before moving Garland, a buy out is not bad at that point. Beau must geau!
  10. Beau is the guy to move. Even with his Petey bump, he scored fewer points than Garland (who has outscored Beau in the past 3 seasons). Beau is a speedy, linear player that should not be on a line with Miller and Brock and is not effective in the bottom 6. It will likely take a sweetener of a $1m retention to move him, which is worth it for the $3.15 cap savings. Beau must geau!
  11. And yet, you think some team will make a trade for him? Every time I see a lineup with Beau on Miller's line, I cringe. He has good speed and can score a lot of goals with Pete. I expect that Tocchett will want a more substantial player (Michelev) on the Kuze/Pete line, who will contribute much more than Beau. Garland is able to play up and down the lineup as he has a more varied skill set. Yes, his term is too long and the $ is too high; which makes him difficult to trade without retention or a sweetener. Keeping him for another season, makes his buyout relatively affordable. Beau would be easier to unload due to his 1yr term; although his salary cap is too high as well. Nucks would likely have to include a b prospect or later round pick. Or, even if they have to retain $1m, it would still be a $3.15m savings on the salary cap. Imo...Beau has to geau.
  12. Well, he does appear to be the 'fall guy'. If what we are hearing is the truth, I don't see how any of his misogynist friends are less guilty. The outstanding lack of respect this group of players had for the young woman involved, is stunning. Sadly, I doubt there will be any criminal charges, as per usual. There will likely be a civil case(s), so the perps will have to address their disgusting attitudes and behaviours in public.
  13. You make some good points here, EP. The cap hit #s are looking better to deal with in the coming years; especially after the final OEL $4.8m. The biggest boost will be when (hopefully) some of the prospects start filling the vet spots. I can foresee something like a Bains - Raty - Podz 3rd line in a couple of years. For now, I think PA has done a pretty good job during the offseason. I think he may circle back to Bear with a cheaper 1yr contract offer. He will have to deal with the overabundance of Ws at some point.
  14. Great line Diamonds. I've always liked Pears; he's a hardworking, true blue guy and a team player (kind of reminds me of Higgins). I hope he returns to the lineup and plays like we know he can.
  15. Absolutely. But...he will be a UFA in the season after next. I suspect that will be the time that the Pens are wanting to start a rebuild. I can see Sid preferring to move on to a team that has Stanley Cup possibilities, rather than rebuilding. He's 100% Pits P guy, who will likely circle back to his favourite team when he officially retires from the league (I can see him involved in some aspect). In the meantime, he makes the Pens better (in a trade deadline deal) and also gets another chance at a SC.
  16. He's 62yrs and his first NHL head coaching job was for the Canadiens in '97 when he was 36yrs. I would think that being a head coach is a very stressful and demanding job that chips away at the individual's personal, social and family life. At his age, if the passion for the job is waning, it's probably a good time to retire. He's had a great career and has a solid grasp on what is most important in his life. Bonne chance, Alain!
  17. I think it's fake news as well. Pens have an aging team with a bizzillion limited contracts. They are up against the cap, so there's not a lot they can do to improve the team. They aren't a bad team, so they might as well plug away until Sid moves on. Dubas did a good job fortifying the team with his UFA pickups. They will likely make the playoffs and maybe get past the 1st round. I would love to see Sid moved to a contender in his UFA year and get another chance at a SC. Pits would get a huge return (to start the rebuild) and the team at the other end of the trade, gets a huge playoff performer.
  18. I love the trade for out team; not so much for the Rags. Beau is a speedy, but soft top 6 winger that can score a lot of goals with Pete. McDonaugh might be a bottom 6 winger one day. He's 2yrs older than Laffy. Laffy hasn't shown his offensive potential so far, but he still has lots of time to develop. If I were a Ranger fan, I would be far more worried about Kakko.
  19. I was really hoping for Dvorsky and we sure came close! I like what I see/hear about Wallander and trust the scouts that backed up the pick. Big, young kid with; + hockey sense, + speedy skating, + character, along with + confidence and drive. My bet is there is a lot of potential for him to develop into a great partner for Hughes.
  20. Fans -pick the damn mic up Alvin...you still have some trades to make!
  21. I like that both of them were snapped up by smart teams for their playoff run. Says a lot about their games.
