The team had a few hiccups during the second half, but, recovered nicely to win it out. This franchise is in good hands with the new ownership, and I think this league will prosper with him promoting the game as he does. He's really behind getting football back in the community, especially up on Burnaby Mountain. If they stay clear of injuries the team should be a strong Grey Cup favourite in the years to come.

I love how he realizes that the community isn't just the mainland.  Very grateful for the efforts he's made to make attending games more reasonable for those of us on the island.

I liked what I saw from VA. He seems to look a lot more comfortable with a whole training camp under his belt. It looks like the Lions may have tailored the playbook a bit to VA's strengths like using him on the roll out more. I also saw on a few occasions where he was able to go through his reads due to good protection. So far so good. Hopefully he'll build on this and maybe bring some Casey Printers type excitement.

Watched a bit of the Bombers - TiCats last night and wow...from what I saw, BLM looked nothing like the guy who dominated in Calgary.

The score flattered Hamilton, as Winnipeg's special teams tried to give the opposition a bit of help, but it still wasn't enough.

BLM has been washed up for awhile. He did ok in Calgary on a running and short passing game. He was never great at hitting the long throws and was worse after his shoulder injury.

Lions player collapses prior to practice:

https://www.msn.com/en-ca/sports/other/b-c-lions-phil-norman-recovering-in-hospital-after-pre-practice-collapse/ar-AA1cyHMJ?ocid=msedgntp&cvid=2d07b10ef2a245fd8cbb317a7114f144&ei=23

"

SURREY, B.C. — A B.C. Lions player is recovering in hospital after collapsing on the field before the start of Wednesday's practice.

Offensive lineman Phil Norman suffered what the CFL club described as a "significant medical episode" during the team's pre-practice walk-through. The team added that Norman is conscious, alert and receiving medical attention.

"After going down at the start of Wednesday’s practice, Phil was taken to a local hospital for further evaluation," Neil McEvoy, the Lions co-general manager and director of football operations, said in a statement. "His EKG (electrocardiogram) test has come back normal.

"Phil will undergo further blood testing and assessment from a cardiologist and will be kept in hospital overnight as a precaution."

Norman signed with the Lions in 2018 after spending three years at Bethune-Cookman University. He spent the 2018 season on the Lions' practice roster before making his pro debut in 2019.

Norman was released by the team in 2021 and was re-signed last year.

He's started 29 games over three seasons.

Fellow lineman Sukh Chungh was visibly emotional speaking to reporters after the event.

"It looked like it wasn’t an accident or a fall. It looked like he had dropped," he said. "My initial reaction was to yell for the trainers and call 911. And that’s what we’re taught to do. They were at his aid very quickly."

Head coach Rick Campbell said he's never experienced a case like this before in his pro career and decided the best thing to do would be to cancel practice.

"We just didn’t want to make these guys practice after seeing something like that. It’s not an easy thing to watch," he said. "It's always out of place when you see something like that and there's no physical exertion or physical contact."

Campbell cancelled practice and other team activities following the incident, a move which was praised by players.

"Rick does a great job of taking care of us mentally and physically and I think he understands the severity of what happened today and it'd be hard to continue practice having that in the back of our mind and being concerned for Phil," Chungh said.

There is no immediate word on Norman's potential return to action.

The Lions are scheduled to play the Edmonton Elks at B.C. Place on Saturday.

This report by The Canadian Press was first published June 14, 2023.

Stampeders @ Redblacks 4:30

of note Ottawa is dealing with the smoke from numerous forest fires, and their weather site has an air quality warning posted.

Not sure if the stadium is under smoke, but we will see.

Lions really stepping up their marketing and game appeal. Great pregame show with LL Cool J and expecting a crowd of 35,000 for the game.

Lions swept the Elks 3-0 last year winning games by an average of  31 points. Let’s see how they do without Rourke.

Good crowd, but a bit of a snooze fest in the first quarter. The Lions defense is the real deal, the Elks had nothing. The front 3 or 4, is awesome, always getting pressure, and the defensive back field is a group of ball hawks. Folks get out and support this team, they. could. go. all. the. way. Thank you MR DOMAN.

Adams goes 25 of 35 for 319 yards 1 td and 1 int

ran for 11 yards on 2 carries

Mizzell ran for 93 yards on 18 carries.

I was surprised to see only2 sacks, in a game the opposition scored no points,

Sacks were by Betts and Banks

with Peters getting the only int.

Montreal, has allowed 3 less points than B.C., but at this time has played 1 less game.

Toronto's first game versus Hamilton is at 4 pacific time. Hamilton lost their first game.

Banks sack was negated by an illegal contact penalty on Manny.
