ronthecivil
I expect we will see a number of the TSN team working for Sportsnet, they are going to have to hire a bunch of people. Coming soon, "This is Bob Mackenzie for Sportsnet." "This is Bob Mackenzie for ESPN" If sportsnet doesn't hire him maybe he's the new NBC guy and you won't have to worry about Bob polluting the Canadian airwaves! Smashian Kassian
I ,for one, am glad TSN is gone....Even when a canuck game was being played. TSN made the broadcast into something about the leafs.( TSN owning a 50% share in the company that owns the leafs might say something). TSN could have bucked up.. but they didn't. Yet even without bucking up, They cant even shut up.. Tsn twitter feeds( aww.. poor me.. poor.. me). James Duthie. Bob Mac can all suck it... If they wanted sympathy, they might have been a little less PRO-Leafs, And more Pro- Canadian hockey! Yeah thats why I said "now and then" I hate that we get constant Leaf talk, but there presentation was great, and it was nice to have every now and then. hudson bay rules
There really shouldn't be much of a debate. TSN was better at hockey than the other two. Not oly will on air talent be moving around but the behind the scenes guys will as well. Just a matter of time before everyone half decent works for SN. elvis15
For anyone with questions around how this deal and the HRR resulting could affect the cap: Here are my current projections for the NHL's salary cap the next eight years. These are conservative estimates. pic.twitter.com/GmP2N4lfj8
ronthecivil
Now sn can start to hire the guys you all like and take them away from tsn Or not care who you like because they know they have a captive audience. Why have anything but commercials during the intermission?
ronthecivil
Now sn can start to hire the guys you all like and take them away from tsn Maybe to host the premium, PPV games. Like the ones on Saturday night once the sub deal with the CBC is done. Someone really needs to look at the deals of this contract. It sounds increadibly scary to me. Honky Cat
Does his mean more Nick Kypreous...?...He's the Sportsnet version of PJ Stock.
ronthecivil
^It means more of what Rogers decides they want as they now answer to nobody or have anyone to compete with. Leafs management runs your TV programming now if you want a hint of the track record.
ice orca
Does his mean more Nick Kypreous...?...He's the Sportsnet version of PJ Stock. This.
ronthecivil
This. It could be PJ stock and Nick Kypreous as your hosts in the interest of saving money. It's whatever Rogers wants it to be. As the evidence shows, regardless of how much you may dislike either, so long as your team is on TV, you will be there to watch.
Ronalds.Kenins41
EXACTLY why i want them together Cherry needs some patient guy to keep him on a leash. Take out Maclean and put Duthie with him.
Ghostsof1915
So does TSN still get Wednesday games and Sunday Games, i.e. the NBC Games still?
hudson bay rules
Does SportsNet have the American rights as well and can sell them to American broadcasters?
Common sense
So does TSN still get Wednesday games and Sunday Games, i.e. the NBC Games still? No; the Wednesday right were sold to Rogers. TSN will not be able to broadcast any national NHL games; they still have rights to some Winnipeg and Toronto games, but those will be be local (only Manitoba and Ontario will be able to view them)
Salmonberries
So does TSN still get Wednesday games and Sunday Games, i.e. the NBC Games still? Nope. TSN gets Montreal English, Winnipeg,, and 20 or so Leaf regional games. No national games.
Salmonberries
Bob McCown and the boys batted this around for about an hour and a half on (Rogers Sportsnet) Prime Time Sports this afternoon. For those worried about cost, it sounds like we will get what we get now (or slightly more) for around the same cost. But there will be a level or two of added coverage for those that want to pay extra for it, including a facsimile of Bell centre ice. The feeling on Don Cherry was that, while he may be retained in some fashion, the 'Coaches Corner' days are probably over because a private company can't bear the same heat as the public broadcaster can (consumer boycotts, CRTC complaints etc)

Salmonberries
Eventually, but they wont touch it at the beginning. The thinking in Toronto media circles is they will probably end it right away because they're fearful of the repercussions in the event of a Cherry foot-in-mouth incident.
