The "I would like to see Torts stay for at least one more year" thread.

All good points except the points about Edler. He's far too inconsistent to be a top defenseman. He had chances under AV and then under Tortorella. He failed miserably. He's lazy

According to teammates, all Edler does is sleep. Perhaps he ought to sleep a bit less...

Never seen someone with such massive talent yet, seems to do nothing with it. He just seems to float around...

That might just be an an illusion since he's so big, but his mistakes reveals the true story on most games.

I think he'll be the most difficult person to deal with regarding his NTC.

Yeah but he's wide awake everytime the puck bounces into the Canucks net off his face.

The current core couldn't score since 2011, and their play had AV fired, then MG fired, and still they can't score. I just like to see Torts get a fair opportunity with a group that he can be assessed fairly if he is the right coach. Every team has to have their top players be top players, and our top players haven't been the top players the last 3 seasons.

The current core has also never been so bad collectively...how do you explain that? literally all players are having the worst year of their careers, save for the younger/newer players like Kassian, Santorelli, and Richardson

Kassian is a younger player who is developing, so his improvement this season make sense regardless who the coach is

Torts may have contributed to the improved performance of Santorelli and Richardson to some degree, but one can also argue that both of them were just under performed/under used the last couple seasons, and they were playing hard this season to prove their worthiness; hence the better than expectation performance from both of them

bottom line is, torts's has go.

It's impressive how passionate some are about keeping Torts. No real good reasons other than you don't fire the coach after only one year. If somebody better is out there come the end of the season (Barry Trotz, Dave Tippett, etc.), then you can be sure that they will bring him in.

Yes, it's time to hold the players accountable for the slide that has happened ever since Daniel was concussed by Duncan Keith.

It's also true that playing in the Pacific is no walk in the park. We all want the same thing, the right guy behind the bench to lead this team through its transition from the 2011 version to the next great Canuck team. Not so sure that JT is the right dude.

Meanwhile, it's time to give Edler his walking papers - who knows somebody might still think that he is worth more than a bag of pucks.

Torts can stay but he has to radically change his approach to the game and to the players. He is skilled enough to do it. Stop getting guys to block shots. Let the goalie block them.

Play a possession game rather than dump and chase which leads to more injuries or suspensions for boarding.

Depends if Trevor thinks he can do it . If not, he is gone.

You don't fire a guy after 1 year. That's the type of decision an impatient 5 year old on ADD makes. What is the common denominator the last 4 years of the decline? It's the players! It's so blatantly obvious that we need new personnel, whether that be through a rebuild or via trade is another question entirely

That.

Already changed his ways after "that Dallas game".

A bit more further change like letting the Sedins off with Burrows and just play and adapt his defense to them when they're on the ice.

Otherwise, great work, especially with the media and the rookies.

No way would a rookie like Kassian stand a chance to develop into a formidable power forward in time. Bernier, Pyatt, Oreskovich and Isbister only wish they had a coach like Torts at the beginning of their career.

A GM that was not able to upgrade the core for three seasons.

This.

Torts is a sideshow/distraction that expedited Gillis' shortcomings.

So is the rest of the Canucks organization, including recent events, while Anaheim, L.A. and San Jose go for the cup.

Giving him a another year just means delaying an eventually firing and of course holding back the rebuild. It is clear that coaching was a big problem and you do not have to be a hockey whiz to know that torts is done.

should have been fired the minute he went to the calgary dressing room and embarrassed himself and the the organization. terrible system, terrible execution and if the players don't buy in (which they clearly haven't) then he's useless. Aquallini's will want to keep him only to save face since they hired him. another high draft pick if he stays, its no coincidence the core have all had there worst seasons with the most injuries in the careers since he showed up.seems like a no brainer to get rid of the real problem.

What do you think should have happened to Patrick Roy after his shenanigans against the Ducks? Should he have been fired? Funny how things work out, Roy is being hailed a hero for his actions because his young team rallied around him and Torts should be fired because the team responded in the opposite.

Torts has been nothing but professional of late and has handled all the crap going on around him like a pro. He has changed his style of coaching to more suit the team and the ice time is being distributed more evenly. I really feel Torts and Linden can work something out. Torts is GREAT with the young guys and they have responded in kind. It's our so called core that needs a shakeup though.

:)
