Salmonberries
HF came out with their latest Canucks top twenty list and they actually had some nice things to say about this kid, or at least OHL coaches did. Vancouver Canucks Top 20 deep in blueline prospects http://www.hockeysfuture.com/articles/120871/vancouver-canucks-top-20-deep-in-blueline-prospects/ "The OHL Coaches Poll had Pettit as the third-best defensive center in the Western Conference and he was also voted second most underrated player" Still not enough respect for Corrado and Horvat over there imho. thad
I thought he was a bit of a wasted pick at the time. Despite being a good defensive specialist with size, his complete lack of offense was alarming. Pretty much every defensive specialist in the NHL was able to score in junior. That said, it looks like he has progressed even further on the defensive side while putting up respectable goal totals. Based on his trajectory, he could probably score 25 next year and work his way up through the ranks. Could be a solid 4th liner for us down the road. Haha yeah I remember looking at his numbers and going "what? Who's nephew is this lol".
canucklehead44
Weird how Bartschi wasn't on the list unless they consider him graduated due to his 66 games If Baertschi qualified I would probably put him 3rd or 4th. Overall pretty good list. Mine would maybe look a little different but I wouldn't really argue any of the rankings too hard. It is great to see Cassels ranked so high. He has the makings of a very valuable player for us down the road, like a Dave Bolland type.

Yeah, I didn't realize until I read the entry in that list that he was a noted defensive player around the OHL.

desiboynux4lifee*******
this kid will make the NHL in 7 years, as a 4th line grinder. He is long ways off from ever hitting the big leagues.

Baer.
Guy starting to get some praise for his D-game. That's good. I'd say 1 more year in the O, then a season in the ECHL, 2 or 3 seasons in utica and folks we have a 4th liner in 4-5 seasons. Jim Benning, the Genius? Knoblauch is unsure if Pettit could play at some point in the first round. "But I don't see any reason why he wouldn't be in for the start of the second round," he said. Pettit, who suffered the injury while blocking a shot Saturday against Windsor, headed home to Komoka, Ontario, to recover. his team is also dealing with a chicken pox scare The Otters have encountered nagging cases of the flu, never-ending colds and even D Darren Raddysh's bout with mononucleosis. But head coach Kris Knoblauch never imagined chicken pox. That changed Sunday, when rookie D T.J. Fergus was diagnosed with the contagious viral infection, and then sent home to Oakville, Ontario, after the 5-1 win against Kitchener at Erie Insurance Arena. http://www.goerie.com/EI-Otters-Weekly-Otters-coping-with-chicken-pox-scare-0318

SID.IS.SID.ME.IS.ME
^^^ what is that list? Looks like a list of some of the players still available "on the board" when the Canucks drafted Pettit. Probably something posted on draft day regarding other "better" choices we should have taken instead of Pettit. Although to be honest, several of those names were on my list of hopefuls when we took Pettit (but I got over that fact quicker than some ). And, of course, Sautner's name is in boldface because of the recent signing. Beyond that, you'll have to ask the author of the post because I'm just speculating on the significance of the list being posted (or reposted, I suppose). EDIT: Of course, one can also just hit that handy little arrow button in the header of the post to go directly to the origin. And that allows you see read it in context, rather than trying to "unlock the mystery" as I attempted to do here. God, I must be tired. Can't believe I forgot about that little arrow button (and didn't bother looking at the date stamp either). At least it appears that I was correct in my initial speculation. wshdrvvn
Should have looked at that post on my phone, my work computer uses an old version of IE, so on this site, quoted posts aren't time stamped. Anyway, I was watching some videos from prospects camp and I realized I had forgotten Pettit had shoulder surgery over the summer just like Jake Virtanen. He picked up his scoring in the second half of the season; makes me wonder if he has a bit more to offer offensively when not adjusting to a surgically repaired shoulder.
