DeltaSwede
I think Tanev will be a Vancouver Canuck for a long time. Fantastic signing at 2 million, I thought it would be close to 3. After this year, if he performs 4 years 14 million. (3.5 per)

ButcherG
Glad this is done. Can't wait for Tanev to put on some more muscle as he matures, and establish a hitting game as well. Hopefully new coaching will work with him and make him even better.
Jack Fig
We re-signed him to a 1 year deal last year... now another 1 year deal? im starting to question Tanev's long term commitment with this team. This could be a sign and trade.I'm starting to question the Canucks' long-term commitment to Tanev. A 25-year-old stay at home Dman who puts up a +12 on a fairly poor team? After signing a one-year deal last year? He's doing all he can to play nice here. But he's got a point when he says new coach and management don't know him. He'll win them over this year, just as he's won over most everyone in the past few years. It will be big money or part ways next summer for sure. Junkyard Dog
It seems we've locked up our back end. I wonder if Tanev will get any PP time next year with Garry gone. It would help his offensive game if he worked on his shot a bit even though he had 6 goals.
Canucks1219
Kudos to Benning and Co. for convincing our prominent RFAs to sign deals that keep them RFAs when the contracts are up. With the cap going up and stupid GMs signing d-men to stupid contracts this offseason, don't be surprised when Tanev signs (wherever he signs) next year for no less than $3mil per. Well, that's if he can continue his solid play.
wallstreetamigo
For people who criticize Tanev's offensive abilities, consider this, for 5 on 5 situations: -Tanev had the 2nd best realtive CF% on the team for defenseman (Stanton being the first, perhaps due to less ice time), at 0.7% (no one had the greatest numbers). However, that means when Tanev was on the ice more shots were being directed at the opponents nets than at Vancouver's net (which was not the case with Edler, Garrison, or Weber). -Tanev had the 2nd best GF% on the team for defenseman (Hamhuis being first), meaning when he's on the ice the team's more likely to score. -Tanev had the 2nd best Sh% for defenseman on the team (though he doesn't shoot as often). -Tanev was 1st for defenseman on the team in on ice SV%, which suggests he gives up the least quality shots. ^He did all this starting 44.8% of his starts in the defensive zone, lowest offensive zone start percentage for defenseman on the team. I don't think anyone is suggesting he is not a great defensive player. He is not physical at all though and provides little offensive upside. Defensive defensemen that do not play physically or add significantly to the offense are replaceable players. Tanev benefited a lot from Torts/Sullivan's defensive system. The likely reason he got a one year contract is because they want to see whether he can thrive in Desjardins system. Here's hoping he can but that is far from a guarantee at this point. wallstreetamigo
If we can get a solid partner for Edler - like Myers or even Boychuk - then Tanev on the 3rd pairing with Sbisa would be ideal. Edler-Myers/Boychuk Hamhuis-Bieksa Sbisa-Tanev Stanton-Corrado That is an excellent defensive group either way.
Canucks1219
That does not mean his game is not replaceable though. If Corrado develops well, he could be a defensively on-par, more physical, and more offensively-inclined version of Tanev. That's assuming he continues to develop well, of course. Junkyard Dog
That does not mean his game is not replaceable though. Well Tanev is arguably our most consistent player. Tanev's great at shutting down teams top players, it is something he did paired with Hamhuis a lot Also Tanev has poise and calmness that surpasses everyone else on D. Tanev rarely makes mistakes and has corrected mistakes he has made. Was one of our few players that never had an off year last season and actually had great one. Tanev doesn't get as much offensive zone time as the other D on our team but has improved offensively(6G,17P, 64 GP). Tanev was +12 when we were 28th in goals for. That means didn't get scored on much when he is on the ice. 35th, tied with Edler, in shot blocks in the entire league only playing 64 games Tanev's a very reliable top 4 defenseman at 24 years of age. Tanev has continued to improve and has shown no signs saying that he will stop improving. Not saying Tanev is irreplaceable but these things are kind of really hard to replace. insomniac604
Great deal to keep him away from UFA status. With the direction he is going I expect around 7-10 goals and 25ish points.
Angry Goose
Tanev is a really good skater, and seems to be improving every year. Glad to see him back
scarecrowtruth
Tanev is good for us, but it's all about making the team better, and if Benning can swing a deal that makes us better, he'll do it, barring that pesky no-trade-clause stuff. When you get a really good player, you don't usually get them for peanuts. It's usually a trade that works for both sides, unless someone is being fleeced. Sokratis Papastathopoulos
Good. Now sign Drake Setoguchi and we are not a horrible team! Screw you Benning for ruining GIllis' masterpiece of a team he already had before he was fired!

Agreed..Tanev has proved the naysayers wrong and will be in for another big raise next ...Every year he manages to raise his game to another level. Does that make him irreplaceable ..not really..but a consistent dependable asset that any team in the NHL would take.
